Ohhh, ! Hopefully he can hold up over the weekend, does anyone remember how long it took until Bowie started with the dark red updates?

Heroes was @1 for exactly 24 hours until

Stitches reclimbed to @1

I'm a huge Drake fan but of course this song is better and I am so sad today.

when combining all version, Purple Rain is selling double relative to Drake (who was selling quite a lot himself)!!!!!!!! When Doves Cry almost #2 when combined too!!!

Latest from Kworb

1 Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain 1.0000

2 Drake - One Dance (feat. Wizkid & Kyla) 0.7983

And that's umcomined

wow! possibly a new peak for Purple Rain this week then? Depends how it holds up, and remember it won't have Spotify to help it.

I really can't see 'Purple Rain' re-peaking. The fact it is not on Spotify and will fall drastically throughout the week will be detrimental.

Can see it charting around #16/#17 or so in the end and 'When Does Cry' will probably manage somewhere between #30-#40. Hopefully they will manage higher than I think.

I will be surprised if we don't see a proper Tribute to Prince on British TV in coming days that will give his songs a further boost.

The News item last night was relegated after the Queen's celebrations - it seemed a bit rushed for a Legend such as Prince.

Woah Prince is dominating iTunes at the moment! :o I know it was to be expected but 'Purple Rain' being at #1 with three other versions top 100 (two of which are top 20). :o

It's at times like this when it is a shame streaming is included in the charts. Without streaming, Prince probably would have gained a posthumous #1 but the talk on here suggests he'd be lucky to re-peak.

That said, as a poster above me has mentioned, there will most likely be some sort of documentary special in the next few days which should help stabilise his songs.

Nice to see Purple Rain on top, I have to echo Davidson's post regarding the track's final position, if only the tracks were on Spotify, but he should get a #1 album next week as album sales are low at the moment. BBC4 tend to do music documentaries, hopefully something is transmitted.

And its going to be hell ripping out the sales info next Friday with all the Prince material, glad I'm away.

Wow at how much the Prince tracks have continued to gain today, I'm sure Bowie's peaked earlier than this. I wonder if his songs not being on Spotify (or even YouTube) is actually helping him out here.

'Purple Rain' with a sizeable lead now even when not combined and two other versions in the top 20, a sales #1 must be pretty much in the bag unless it starts to plummet hard and fast. That should safely see it reaching a new peak overall I would think.

38 Purple - The Most Beautiful Girl In the World

just checked this and is a cash-in horrible cover!!!!!! not the original

and it's kinda fooling people using the name Purple so that some think it's a Prince alias...

It would be wonderful if Purple Rain could officially enter the top 5 next week but the lack of streaming will most likely prevent that from happening. I myself would be delighted if little red corvet could make the top 40. Its peak its number 54 which is criminal.

I recall that it peaked at number 2 when it was re-released as a double A-Side with '1999' in 1985?

Maybe I'm being incredibly naive (I haven't followed the streaming side of things that closely since it became part of the chart) but surely the fact that most of his posthumous sales will be counted for this chart week, plus the regular news reports on Prince's death and possibly a TV documentary in the next few days, will give his songs a better chance of peaking higher than, say, Bowie's.

combined

1 Purple Rain 1.4889

2 Drake 0.77

3 When Doves Cry 0.7678 (almost #2)

so Purple Rain selling double than Drake. Sia is on 0.39, so Purple Rain is doing almost 4 times as much,,,
