Maybe I'm being incredibly naive (I haven't followed the streaming side of things that closely since it became part of the chart) but surely the fact that most of his posthumous sales will be counted for this chart week, plus the regular news reports on Prince's death and possibly a TV documentary in the next few days, will give his songs a better chance of peaking higher than, say, Bowie's.

Bowie had all that too, I'm not sure why there's a difference?

I expect Purple Rain will do similarly to Heroes, the lack of streams won't help at all and I feel like it won't hold up well (a la pretty much every previous death boost).

There are now 2 versions of 'Kiss' in the top 10, so 5 Prince entries in the top 10 overall.

I really hope he can get more than just the one song in the top 40.

Kiss is now #4 when combined

It has been reported that Prince had approximately 2000 unreleased Songs in a vault, whilst obviously a lot will not be of the same quality we have come to expect at least the Prince fans can console themselves with the prospects of some gems emerging over time.

Really pleased to see "Raspberry Beret" doing so well, 25 was a criminally low peak for that song. Suspect it won't get a new peak but hope it does...

Without doubt new Prince album will be released and possibly more than 1 as the record company will cash in. For now the record company know all his existing releases will sell. I would believe a new Prince album will be released to cash in for Christmas sales.

As predicted:

BBC4 plans to celebrate Prince's career tonight in a late change to the TV schedules.

The channel confirmed that it would be showing a repeat of Prince: A Purple Reign this Friday 22nd April at 10pm, originally shown as part of its Black Music Legends of the 1980s series.

The documentary will also be shown on Saturday night at 10.30pm.

Such a gem. Even though it went top 10, it still feels underrated.

Love this song  completely forgot that it was written by Prince.

this is also another gem written by Prince for the Bangles... #518 & 575 right now

79. Kygo - I'm in Love (feat. James Vincent McMorrow)

104. Mumford & Sons & Baaba Maal - There Will Be Time

107. Flume - Say It (feat. Tove Lo)

541. Fetty Wap - Wake Up

667. Billie Marten - Milk & Honey

668. Gregory Porter - Take Me to the Alley

943. Coldplay - Up&Up (Radio Edit)

RIP Prince, my faves are "Little Red Corvette", "Raspberry Beret", "I Would Die 4 U" and "Diamonds & Pearls". Love that Martika track too, nice to see it in the top 1000
I was completely shocked to find out today that Prince wrote 'Manic Monday'. :o

Never knew that either :o One of my favourite songs <3

Great to see Purple Rain at number 1, would be fantastic if that returned to the top 10, even with the fact he's not on Spotify.

Close was played before the chart show even started, I just heard the last minute of it, so I guessed it missed the top 40 chart, as they won't play the new entries.

All those new entries at the bottom end of the chart though, not getting played :drama: back later... :P

Echoing the love for 'Love Thy Will Be Done', a big fave of mine and I knew Prince wrote it but didn't think of it until seeing it mentioned here, so thanks for posting that! On a similar note I see Sinead O'Connor's 'Nothing Compares 2 U' is at #74 currently.

If Prince hadn't have died (I wish), Kygo would be nearly top 40.

:( to both elements of that statement

the iTunes trending searches are filled with Prince at the moment!

 5. Cake By the Ocean

It looks like this might go to #3 eventually.

In America Prince has 19 out of the top 20 songs on iTunes. And he also has the top 17 songs in a row!
