July 10, 20169 yr Wow, no words, I mean that just feels so wrong when this should have been France's moment (especially when reading through this thread earlier) and Portugal completely fluked their way to the final, but well done to Portugal nonetheless, especially impressive that they beat France without Ronaldo! July 10, 20169 yr Portugal are champions after winning one match in 90 minutes in the entire tournament. So undeserved it's unreal.
July 10, 20169 yr Yeah well done - I suppose they won at the end of the day so you can't take the success away from them.
July 10, 20169 yr Good luck whoever hosts Euro 2028, France'll be coming for you :P I'm happy for Portugal, it's a new winner and it means a lot to them.
July 10, 20169 yr I mean I guess they did something right to never be on the losing end of any of their extended time matches? Still funny just how poor an ending to the tournament it is though.
July 10, 20169 yr Author The dullest team to have won an international tournament. Well done SevenSeize. This hasn't been the greatest tournament ever. A bit part player who played failed to score for Swansea in Eder wins the Euros. It's really f***ed isn't it?
July 10, 20169 yr It's a good story though, Greece played very similarly in 2004 but everyone loved them as a shock winner. I hated it when Spain used to win every KO match 1-0 that was no better IMO. Crazy for Eder though, first international goal - Gotze scored as a sub in the World Cup final now it's happened in the Euros!
July 10, 20169 yr So the 12 year rule kind of still applies giving no one was giving them a prayer pre-KO. Funny how it's swung round from 12 years ago when Portugal were on the exact same receiving end! I think because of that it makes this tournament a lot more memorable. A routine 2-0 France win tonight would have been boring & predictable... Happy for Ronaldo :cheer: And in 12 years' time, Portugal will finish bottom of their qualifying group, behind the Faroe Islands :P
July 10, 20169 yr And in 12 years' time, Portugal will finish bottom of their qualifying group, behind the Faroe Islands :P  (but still above England)
July 10, 20169 yr Author With Greece it was the shock factor when they won it despite how they played. Robson-Kanu for goal of the tournament against Belgium.
July 10, 20169 yr That's fair, I personally would have picked Shaqiri but that was a fantastic turn & to take the lead in the match. Iceland & Wales were the highlights for me, oh and that Zaza penalty miss.
July 10, 20169 yr My highlight of the whole tournament was that Zaza penalty miss  and Ronaldo's disallowed goal

July 10, 20169 yr I am absolutely shocked that Portugal won, their defensive tactics worked on the night even without their star man Ronaldo. You could say that they didn't deserve to win the tournament, that's how I feel, but at the end of the day they did what needed to be done to win. It's not like a league were the best team always wins, to win a tournament you need luck and Portugal are probably the luckiest team in major tournament history. What do you people think of Euro 2016? For me it wont go down as a good tournament as there wasn't enough quality in most of the matches and hardly any goals being scored, especially in the group stage. I guess it's kind of symbolic that a team that finished 3rd in their group and would have been knocked out in the old format ends up winning the tournament. Wales & Iceland progress & Zaza's funny penalty are my best moments of Euro 2016. Edited July 10, 20169 yr by Hazza Chapman
July 10, 20169 yr It was a lacklustre tournament really, generally just way too cautious throughout and the winner was decided mainly by luck than performance. Though Wales & Iceland outperforming were real moments (I actually enjoyed Iceland beating us, summed up how far they came), and yes of course Zaza's penalty (which is still giving me life <3).
July 10, 20169 yr Iceland deserved the draw I think and even could have won the match with some of the good chances that they had. Portugal are and always have been quite overrated, their only really good teams were the Euro 2000 & 2004 teams. They couldn't even make it out of the group stage at the last World Cup and they wont go far in this either. Awkward.......
