The Ibra goal should have stood no question, but as they say these things balance out over the season. Myhkitarian's goal shouldn't have stood last weekend!

I must admit, it does chuckle me to see Man Utd in great form over the past 4-6 weeks, but they have barely made any ground up - just reminds me of Liverpool!

Thought the Liverpool-Man City game was really interesting. Both teams were off-form slightly, but both teams adjusted their tactics slightly which I think contributed to this. Huge 3 points, although I have a horrible feeling we will only draw with Sunderland

Barely made any ground up?

We're now 3 points behind 3rd placed Manchester City, the team that won the Premier League in September let's not forget! And we're only 1 point behind Arsenal at the moment before they kick off against Crystal Palace and Arsenal were 10 points ahead of us at the beginning of December.

Just because we haven't moved from 6th position doesn't mean that significant damage isn't being done to the gaps that were in the table before.

You haven't really though, you've moved up the points difference and sure you're closer to Man City and Arsenal, so in that respect you're probably more of a chance of the Top 4 then you were a month or two back. But for the form you've been in, everyone else had also been winning. Loads of people are still saying Man Utd are in the title race, which is complete rubbish really.

Gonna be interesting anyhow, for this month especially.

And Mata's perfectly fine onside goal should have stood which the Mkhitaryan goal cancelled out already. Lot more swings than roundabouts so far.

We stumbled at the start and that was expected, it took time for things to settle after such wholesale changes. Nobody is infallible and the top 6 will all drop points in the next 19 matches, there's plenty still to play for and we're in the hunt. City are down to 5th now after 1 loss. 2nd to 6th is close and everyone has to play each other again so points will be dropped.

It was nice to see Arsenal be so original in front of goal today. I wonder where they got that idea from #FirstNeverFollows

I guess Henrikh Mkhitaryan will win the December goal of the month & Olivier Giroud will win the January goal of the month for the exact same type of goal.

City have been in terrible form for much of December though. At least 1 of the 6 teams will fall away, and each side will go through a mini blip of sorts, because it happens. The problem when it is this close though, is that if you lose a game chances are the other teams will not drop points. This time of year though, most of the top sides seem to do well, which I guess comes from the fact there is only one competition to concentrate on.

I think we'll know a little bit more soon on Wednesday when Spurs play Chelsea.

Over their last 10 they're a point behind Arsenal and Spurs. (19 vs 20) next up of the top 6 is us on 22 and you on 23. So they're not actually on that bad a run of form over the past 10 games.

It's bad when you consider it against their first 10 games of the season or so though. They're doing OK, but I haven't seen them play well comfortably for ages now. I think they have too much quality, but the Top 6 this year have all looked pretty good at times, although some more consistently than others. Looks likely that it could take 80 points to even secure Top 4 this year.. that is crazy.

Our main problem is not scoring enough. We've only smashed one team this season, every top team needs a good 4 or 5-0 demolition once in a while. I fear we'll lose out on GD again like last season...
The form for the last 6/10 matches is interesting. Sunderland are just below mid-table in both. I just hope the injury to Pickford won't cost as too much as Mannone is not as good as he thinks he is and our back four for about the 11th season in a row is questionable at best.
Didn't expect you to start dropping points already Roo! Dropping points to relegation fodder is the united way

Liverpool continuing to barely make up ground on Chelsea. The F.A might as well write Chelsea's name on the trophy now!

Yeah saw us dropping points a mile off today. 7 points out of 9 is fine though, and in most seasons our form is title winning.

Fact is, everyone comes up against it in the Christmas period, but we just looked leggy and tired today. Fair play to Sunderland as no matter how terrible it was, they had a good gameplan. Sunderland have been pretty good at home recently and after the Burnley debacle they weren't going to lie and roll over for us. Still, there's a long way to go yet.. just means we have to go to Old Trafford and win :D Thankfully Coutinho and Henderson should be back for that.

All the decisions really are going against United of late.

Can't help but feel that crying in the media has probably had an effect on Mike Dean there. I can see why he's made the decision (although Jones was also ridiculously high!) because Jones rolls about lots afterwards. Wouldn't be so bad, but Rojo hasn't been sent off (x2), Barkey etc. for shocking tackles, while the likes of Feghouli and Vardy get sent off. You wouldn't mind so much if it was consistent.

This is a pure howler of a game for refereeing. It's the first time this year it's been in our favour though. Nice to know there is a team Mike Dean hates more than us!
Were there decisions that went against you either time Rojo should have been sent off? (genuinely asking!)

I'm fairly sure I've said in this thread that Rojo should have been off.

MEN had a good article on the 14 big decisions that had gone wrong in our matches. Two of them were the Rojo red cards and one was the scorpion. We've benefited from three hideous decisions this season but have had two disallowed perfectly fine goals (and an offside one today) and I think half a dozen fair penalty calls ignored. By impartial standards we've come off worse from quite a few games this season, by far far more than we've benefited.

The gap between Man United and 2nd placed Liverpool is the same as the gap between Liverpool and Chelsea now! We're playing them at Old Trafford next as well so a win in that match would cut it to 2 points :o
