It was one of Katy's least supported singles in the UK (maybe something to do with Birthday under-performing). But went Platinum in America and Australia. It boasts a really fun and vibrant video (Easily the best of the Prism era IMO)

 

 

 

I know the fans reactions to this are rather marmite, but it's slowly become my joint favourite Katy Perry song with Teenage Dream and Waking Up in Vegas.

It's her only single I don't love personally, but I do still like it, she's just better than this which is pretty monotone and lacks a really spark for me.

This is filed under "really grew on me following its single release". I was disappointed that 'Legendary Lovers' and 'Walking On Air' was snubbed and remained so until the video was released, which really brings the video to life and is so playful with the visual-subtitle-esque thing. I'd still pick the other two over it, but at least this earned its right to be a single.

 

Wasn't she accused of being a racist for having braids in the video?

Anyway this is one of my least favourites of her singles but at the same time I really really like it and it gets too much stick. It's not pop perfection like Teenage Dream, Firework, Roar, Dark Horse, E.T., Hot N Cold or Unconditionally, but it's good fun and I love the video.

Yeah it didn't make much sense, I never really got cultural appropriation being slapped on any female popstar for seemingly anything. Of course it does exist but when you get the likes of Iggy Azalea slammed for it simply because she raps it gets a bit ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm sure there may be cases where it's appropriate (although the very definition suggesting you must "ask permission" doesn't sit right with me) but, like you said, it seems you're only a female popstar once your every move has been criticised! :lol:

Yes, definitely monotonous and just a weaker / less fun version of Last Friday Night for me (which is already one of her least good singles).

It was always a stand out from the 'Prism' album for me, due to how different it is. It's so joyous and summery! It's a deserved success for her and although it didn't peak too great here, it still sold decently, right?

 

In terms of songs and videos though, especially from that era, I still prefer 'Roar' (on both accounts). But this is definitely 2nd best for me <3

I do enjoy it and jam to it every time it's on and I'm a big fan of the video but overall it probably is one of her worst singles, it just gets a bit annoying I think and doesn't have a huge chorus (although it is catchy).

It's funny because I never like Katy's singles on first listen, they have to grow on me and they always do, but TIHWD hit me right away. Quite a bold single choice, very unique in sound but so much fun and the video's just as great. The radio station at my uni still plays it from time to time to remind people of its existence <3

Her second weakest single for me. I feel like it's a fun album track but would've much rather had Walking On Air as a single.

I like the original but it's elevated to HUGE new heights with this euphoric remix:

The pop song that's called 'This Is How We Do' by the famous popstar singer Katy Perry is good and also nice.
