you made a passive aggressive remark to insinuate that i was sneaky and saying one thing publically then doing something else behind the scenes - that is a defamation of character, not a criticism of the framework nor a useful suggestion on how to improve it

what with a smiley, which clearly shows the intention was not to get at you?! if i wished to make that point, i’d have chosen a much more blunt style of delivery! in any case i don’t see how my protestations or your histrionics have advanced this discussion tbh!

i'm clearly not the only one from this thread who had thought the demeanor in the comment was snide but if that wasn't your intention then i must've read it wrong, i'll hold my hands up to that
Hate to be pedantic but will the semi's be up tonight or nah? :P ;)
They are making it harder on themselves by being so nit picky and power hungry tbh  there IS a happy medium to be had, they just need to not be so strict and OTT when it comes to things like "this song was briefly mentioned on a housewives blog about what she listens to when she does the hoovering " and "this song went to #45 in Outer Mongolia so it should be a veto".

I'm not saying this to discredit the mods, and I know that Lew does frequent plug, but if playing songs on plug is becoming an issue (it's a part of this site now as many people do use it and enjoy it), maybe someone knowledgeable from the "plug clique" should be on the mod team? That would maybe shed a bit of light on what goes on, it feels like using plug is unfairly targetted by mods who in my eyes mostly don't know or use the site a lot when there are methods used to share potentials that are equally effective and don't get quashed.

This is not me pining for a mod spot or wanting one of my friends to get it in a petty way, I just think that not even being a mod, just adding to the veto panel maybe, even if it was different each month like when there were guest "panellists" a couple of years ago.

I was just thinking this! I think Leww is the only BJSC regular mod on plug too and as it's such an involvement in BJSC potentials and buzzjack as a whole. I think everything that I wanted to say has already been mentioned in the thread in terms of the unfair veto to Tim.

Well this was quite entertaining to return from my weekend break to see. I think things are really difficult to decide with vetoes and the framework is the best solution or we'd have disputes way more often, but I do feel like we're losing more and more entries which would be acceptable these days just because they hit a few bumps in the framework.

It is a really difficult thing to do but it does feel like we're getting increasing cases of things being vetoed because they appear on Scandipop and they've been in the contest before where they finished in 27th. The aim is to send discoveries, I get that, but I feel like plenty of discoveries are lost in the midst of unfortunately hitting some points which really aren't that harmful. I was told if I sent 'California' by SAARA then it would be vetoed because she charted in Finland in 2015 and because her EP is on Scandipop - would that be an inspired entry? No, of course not, but would it likely to be a discovery to a massive majority of the site? Yeah I'm sure it would be.

I realise this isn't directly related to Whads happened to Tim today but seeing as these veto discussions are ongoing I just thought I'd say it. But I do think the framework for the most part is the best solution, I just think the whip can be cracked much too readily recently as soon as the slightest sniff of cheap comes.

I also realise I of everyone have the least call to do this when I sent the cheapest entry of the year last contest but I'm not just speaking for me obviously.

Then by that logic anything Girls' Generation and 2NE1 can be sent because yanno it's a discovery to most people and they haven't exactly got a following in Buzzjack any less to SAARA *.*

(I get where you're coming from but at the same time SAARA is quite a big scandi act herself so I'm inclined to even dump her if she was researched upon in future contests)

That was just an example of some of the cases that can go against someone though really. Is someone having a #2 hit in Finland and an EP posted on Scandipop really that significant? It's difficult and not everyone is always going to agree but I do think some songs that, while not the most inspired, but would be a discovery to most, can get lost in some just loosely hitting some of these points that really add to little. This is more in relation to the discussion of a song getting 7pts for charting in Belgium, it can sometimes distort whether a song is actually that bad and we lose some gems to this need to really crack down on any slight sniff of being heard by a small few.
:s there have been FAR more egregious cases of people making it incredibly obvious what their entry is, if you were gonna suddenly swing the banhammer for that offence why not at least do it on a song that has even the slightest case for being a genuine veto?

A few months ago I made a post in a confirmation thread saying 'hi guys I sent this' lol

I didn't know it was against the rules. I did wonder that if we all did that then launching the semi finals thread would be a tad anti-climatic so that's probably not a good example to follow!

I don't really care about rules. I just come here to send a song, open the semi finals thread, download MP3s, listen to ~70 others and scan through the the two results threads. I guess I need to follow the rules to actually do that tho. :D

p.s. that veto framework must be a bit ropey if Bonbon got through - that's one entry that sticks out like a sore thumb as it's not only prominent amongst hardcore music fans but also it's everywhere in the 'real world'. Or at least as I see it.

i don't think bonbon was THAT bad, it just had a few people who saw it because a couple of twitter accounts posted a snippet saying she sounded like rihanna/sia

To Bonbon's defence, it was only just starting to hit it big after confirmations. I discovered it via an instagram account that posted a snippet of it comparing her to Rihanna and Sia's lovechild. Yes it did rise the iTunes charts, but for like 2 days max and then it tumbled down as the hyped died down, before radio started playing it more recently

EDIT; omg lotti bitch, stop stealing my lines hoe

Not gonna act like I can add anything constructive on Timgate that hasn't been said already here but since we're on the issue of the framework, if anything I think the whole idea of the 'trifecta' needs revising as well as the demographics of BJSC that lead to the introduction of the Framework isn't as scandi/pop/scandipop influenced any more, plus Pitchfork and Popjustice aren't the big forces as once they were.

yeah i did the research on that one - i was concerned about its REAL WORLD presence but there was nothing on the framework to support it but 'leww heard this at a house party in manchester and a gay club l8r that evening' into the framework

That is kind of what I was referring to without wanting to directly name and shame you :kink:

ofc BonBon is present in Paisley

Also, tbh, most of Britain probably didn't even take a notice of it because they presumed she was singing about a sweetie.

That sounds legit. We should really track the music we hear out and about and run this shit through an algorithm.
