The chart needs some sensible recurrency rules. That's the only thing that I can think of that would make sense. Tweaking the chart to decrease the impact of streaming and increase the impact of iTunes downloads doesn't make sense as streaming is growing and downloading is declining.

They need to do something like not counting streams from playlists or only counting listens from paid members

I think they should only count the equivalent of one sale of streams by one person - that way there would no longer be a mishmash of buys and plays in the chart.

Oh no I didn't mean the chart should be tweaked in favour of downloads. :P I agree with your idea (there was a poster who also had a list of good ideas for how the chart should be altered). It's just a shame that now streaming is taking off, it's a lot harder for new acts to break through. It's almost as if the Spotify playlists dictate what is popular. Maybe a brand new prime time music show should coexist with this chart format? Idk I'm just thinking out loud.

James number 2 combined (Even if Calum is combined) that's insane.
hope his streaming is terrible

what a douche

He's 139 :|

It's so sad that iTunes' influence on the charts is declining. This forum pretty much grew with the download era. The chart definitely needs tweaking somehow.

Yeah it is but that's how the charts are now I'm afraid. Years ago I used to care a lot about which songs were at #1 or which songs were in the top 10 but now if something that I don't like is at #1 then it wouldn't bother me at all. The charts are dead in my opinion now.

Looking at the latest from Kworb James should overtake DJ Snake/ Bieber soon with his top version.

It's odd how well its doing; but I guess people are willing to give a second chance, listen and like it enough to buy.

Who knew in the week that was meant to be all about Gaga has turned into James Arthur coming for #1!

lol who would've thought he'd be outperforming gaga. think it says more about how bad her single is if anything tho

nope, Calum has 3 versions in the top 100

combined

1 Chainsmokers 1.00

2 Calum scott 62.87

3 James Arthur 61.04

4 DJ Snake 58

5 Sia 52

Yeah, premiered last night on 1Xtra. Comeback track, doesn't sound like it's aimed at the charts.

Yeah the Pro Green track doesn't sound very commercial, more like a buzz track. And with a title like 'Back On The Market' it's obviously aimed at ex-wife Millie

i thought james arthur was problematic....? why are people even giving him the time of day

I know, how dare people download his song on the merit of its musical quality instead of the kind of person he is/was

I remain shcoked at the success of James Arthurs single. That said, i always welcome a shock success.

he's just an all round unlikeable character tho. listening to his voice triggers me to his douchey attitude and I'm surprised it doesn't do the same to most other people

tho these are the same people that are keeping that callum scott in the top 5 so can't rly be shocked

I guess it depends whether or not you can give people a 2nd chance and accept they made a mistake; which judging from twitter and some interviews he has done, he knows he was a complete dick and seems genuinely shocked/ surprised that the song is doing as well as it has. He even said he was lucky it made it into the top 100 let alone going top 10.

I'm gay and don't see the point in continuing to dislike someone for comments made 3+ years ago and clearly at a time when he wasn't in a great place - if I did continue to do that, then I'd really be no better than James was at the time it all kicked off.
