October 23, 20169 yr Will the John Lewis singer be British or maybe they will further afield, right now I'm going to put 3 names out there- Birdy, Passenger and Sia Could be Birdy! I can't see Sia singing a cover howevwr and is too busy with her album.
October 23, 20169 yr does anyone remember how much did Artpop sell on week 1? (thats the right comparison, not BTW)
October 23, 20169 yr It was 40 or 80 000 wasn't it? Oops, right in the middle: 65 000. 280 000 in US, then the week after ... Edited October 23, 20169 yr by skankhunt42
October 23, 20169 yr My god the charts have 0 interest for me right now. Hopefully we hace some Christmas songs doing well soon to satiate chart boredom/ staleness Not even Lady Gaga? I'm only really interested in the albums chart but even then my faves fall quickly, dreading where Rebecca will end up. I have a casual interest in where Maroon 5 are in the singles but I'm not a huge fan of the song.
October 23, 20169 yr Well firstly, your comment suggests that you think that Elvis only recorded a handful of songs in his life and that this album must therefore be essentially the same as last years. Elvis recorded and released about 45 original albums in his career, and hundreds and hundreds of songs. Last year's and this year's albums are tracks that have been recorded with a philharmonic orchestra, so they have quite a different sound to the original recordings of the songs. These orchestral albums could literally be released every year until the 2050s without repeating songs. As to why people are buying them- Elvis is the most iconic, most popular and most successful solo artist in history... that has a lot to do with it. CD albums are now Christmas presents more than anything else. About 20% of the UK's population (more than 10 million people) would have been teenagers when Elvis was alive, so for many people it would make an ideal Christmas present. Add to that there are many millions of people in their 20's, 30's and 40's who also love or at least enjoy the music of Elvis, there's no reason why they wouldn't enjoy this album. Radio 2 is the most listened to station in the UK by far, and they have heavily promoted and played both this and last year's album. Finally, it's a simple fact that people like shiny new things, and casual music fans who have a passing interest in Elvis or want to 'discover' Elvis, are much more likely to go out and buy a new CD that is on the front shelves of shops, has radio play and tv adverts, than try to choose from 1000's of online Elvis track options or root through a CD shop for a random Elvis greatest hits from years ago. Hope that's enough reasons as to why this album might sell a few hundred-thousand copies. Fair enough. I guess to me the music of Elvis has always sounded impossibly retro, and just really very different to what I understand music to be. Of course he was an iconic musician, but an iconic musician from 50 years ago. Just feels like milking it a little. But I guess he's become more than a person. Anyway. Don't want to get into debate over it or step on anybody's toes. Just thought it seemed odd initially. Edited October 23, 20169 yr by 360Jupiter
October 23, 20169 yr My god the charts have 0 interest for me right now. Hopefully we hace some Christmas songs doing well soon to satiate chart boredom/ staleness Not quite sure how the same Christmas songs that have re-entered the chart for the last ten years would be making things *less* stale, TBH. On the "older people"/Elvis thing, I suppose it might depend on what you think an older person is. I reckon I'm an older person by Buzzjack standards and even I was born after he died. For the record, I think the orchestral albums are rubbish, and the second one must be even worse than the first. But I'm listening to his first album even now.

The Elvis/RPO Albums are the best albums that he has released. Brings Elvis' sound bang up to date with innovative backings. The general public obviously love them as the previous album IICD was the second biggest seller after Adele last year. Brian
October 23, 20169 yr I'm not convinced that adding an orchestra is "up to date" but I can of course see that there's a market for it. In fact, it's possible that if they'd done it while Elvis was alive and had him singing over an orchestra it would have been quite good, but doing it posthumously just doesn't work for me. I heard a version of 'If I Can Dream' that was especially awful.
October 24, 20169 yr Id rather Buble number 1 than Elvis so i hope Buble does it. Really hope Mel C can stay top 20 at the worst, her last 2 album i think missed the top 40 so this would be a nice turnaround for a great album.
October 24, 20169 yr Neil Claxton @MintRoyale To give her credit, she's doing good numbers. On another week the could have been number 1. Just not against Buble and Elvis. this means Gaga is doing good! Just like I predicted, she will definitely sell at least 30k.
October 24, 20169 yr from the sun.co.uk His new posthumous LP, The Wonder Of You: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, has unexpectedly leapfrogged MICHAEL BUBLE and LADY GAGA in the race for this week’s No1. If it holds on then he will defeat MADONNA to become the solo star with the most No1 UK albums ever — bagging 13 in chart-toppers in total. He and MADGE are currently neck and neck on 12. While Michael Buble’s Nobody But You was tipped for the top after huge pre-orders, Elvis has now soared ahead by more than 2,000 copies. Edited October 24, 20169 yr by Bjork
October 24, 20169 yr Would be very impressive for Elvis to get another #1 album this far into his career, and beating Michael Bublé in the process who most of us thought would be a certain #1 :o
October 24, 20169 yr The (digital version of the) Elvis album contains a duet with Helene Fischer *.* Surely giving it the edge in the chart race this week.

She should have released on 23rd September then she would have easily got #1 and denied Bastille a second week at the top or release at the same time as Passenger
October 24, 20169 yr She should have released on 23rd September then she would have easily got #1 and denied Bastille a second week at the top or release at the same time as Passenger Even if the album wasn't finished/ready by that point?

October 24, 20169 yr She should have released on 23rd September then she would have easily got #1 and denied Bastille a second week at the top or release at the same time as Passenger Her team is focused on getting her the US #1. The predictions are for her to nearly double Buble's sales. They weren't going to change the release schedule for the UK market.
