October 22, 20169 yr 11k is a perfectly reasonable 1st day return for lady gaga ^_^ ~ #1 was always going to be a tad ambitious given the time of year~ it’s amazing how many times elvis can be recycled ~ wasn’t he #1 last november? :nocheer: Yes he criminally denied little mix their first number 1 album
October 23, 20169 yr I swear supermarkets are trying to champion Bublé for #1 album. Sainsbury's were stocking up on deluxe editions of his album but not Gaga's and Tesco and Asda are probably doing the same Supermarkets are stocking Buble because it's more likely to sell among a lot more age groups than Gaga funny enough!
October 23, 20169 yr I genuinely don't understand how Elvis Presley albums can continue to be so popular...? Wasn't there one just last year or something too?? Genuinely if someone could go into who is buying them that would be cool. Is it just older people forgetting they already have a copy of the last one?
October 23, 20169 yr Minty also posted Mel C is at #11 So hope she can stay high! She deserves a hit album.

This one and the other last year have different melodies as they're with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Obviously all different tracks to last year's release. Don't think just older people are buying them.
October 23, 20169 yr Any nonsense posts about videos not on Youtube and how it effects the chart position / conspiracy theories etc. will be deleted. We got already the point and we don't want to read it again and again and again. If anyone has a problem with it, please contact a chart mod. Thank you :)
October 23, 20169 yr My god the charts have 0 interest for me right now. Hopefully we hace some Christmas songs doing well soon to satiate chart boredom/ staleness
October 23, 20169 yr It's way too early for Christmas songs at the moment  We should probably start seeing them climb iTunes by mid November once the John Lewis advert signals the start of the holiday season (who do we think will do the ad song this year? I can't see them getting another nobody in as last years one was a flop)
October 23, 20169 yr I wouldn't call it a total flop (did peak at #11 right?) but after Gabrielle Aplin and Lilly Allen both hit #1, it was a bit of an underperformance...
October 23, 20169 yr I wouldn't call it a total flop (did peak at #11 right?) but after Gabrielle Aplin and Lilly Allen both hit #1, it was a bit of an underperformance... It dropped off the face of the charts afterwards though and I'd say that #11 was a bit bad considering the level of hype and advertisement the John Lewis ad songs receive.
October 23, 20169 yr but I'd say itø's cos people were getting tired of the concept rather than cos Aurora was unknown in the UK
October 23, 20169 yr Genuinely if someone could go into who is buying them that would be cool. Is it just older people forgetting they already have a copy of the last one? Well firstly, your comment suggests that you think that Elvis only recorded a handful of songs in his life and that this album must therefore be essentially the same as last years. Elvis recorded and released about 45 original albums in his career, and hundreds and hundreds of songs. Last year's and this year's albums are tracks that have been recorded with a philharmonic orchestra, so they have quite a different sound to the original recordings of the songs. These orchestral albums could literally be released every year until the 2050s without repeating songs. As to why people are buying them- Elvis is the most iconic, most popular and most successful solo artist in history... that has a lot to do with it. CD albums are now Christmas presents more than anything else. About 20% of the UK's population (more than 10 million people) would have been teenagers when Elvis was alive, so for many people it would make an ideal Christmas present. Add to that there are many millions of people in their 20's, 30's and 40's who also love or at least enjoy the music of Elvis, there's no reason why they wouldn't enjoy this album. Radio 2 is the most listened to station in the UK by far, and they have heavily promoted and played both this and last year's album. Finally, it's a simple fact that people like shiny new things, and casual music fans who have a passing interest in Elvis or want to 'discover' Elvis, are much more likely to go out and buy a new CD that is on the front shelves of shops, has radio play and tv adverts, than try to choose from 1000's of online Elvis track options or root through a CD shop for a random Elvis greatest hits from years ago. Hope that's enough reasons as to why this album might sell a few hundred-thousand copies.
October 23, 20169 yr That makes sense tbh. I only get cds for presents now too with the exception of my fave fave who I didn't get. Re John Lewis, the advert and song last year were pretty atrocious. Neither was popular and therefore both flopped. I think they will bring in a bigger name and with a better song and campaign.
October 23, 20169 yr Not really, usually females can't double first day sales...19k I think it's doable for her. 19k? What makes u think it's only selling that much? That would mean her daily average (day 2 - day 7) is gonna be less than 2k?! 1st day : 11k, and it's still #1 on iTunes. I can see it easily doing at least 30k. October 23, 20169 yr Wouldn't surprise me if Ellie or Lily did it again tbh. Please no! I prefer it when they pick up and coming artists to give them a bit of publicity
October 23, 20169 yr Maybe Kate Nash will get the John Lewis ad campaign this year, to give her the early promotion for her tour early next year (February) http://diymag.com/2016/09/05/kate-nash-ann...es-2017-uk-tour I love to see her music content back in the charts, I just love 'Foundations' by her
October 23, 20169 yr Kate Nash is a good shout actually!! :o I have a feeling it could be Little Boots however. Edited October 23, 20169 yr by skankhunt42
October 23, 20169 yr Will the John Lewis singer be British or maybe they will further afield, right now I'm going to put 3 names out there- Birdy, Passenger and Sia
October 23, 20169 yr According to Mint Royale, Gaga has sold 11,444 units and Buble and Elvis over 20,000 units each. Buble has sold more than double Gaga. Big sales week then. Didn't Gaga sell something like 240,000 first week in 2011? :o
