Posted November 6, 20168 yr The BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be crowned on 18 December. I assume the shortlist will be published in the next couple weeks or so. After being crowned world number one tennis player, last year's winner Andy Murray is now the favourite. Will he win again? Who else will be on the shortlist? What about the other awards? Leicester City are favourites for team of the year. The Olympic / Paralympic team must have a chance although it depends on how they define "team" this time. I think we can assume Sam Allardyce has no chance of getting Coach of the Year.
November 6, 20168 yr Yeah think Murray's a definite again. Tennis is always looked at so favourably in this contest & in particular given we haven't had a British player so highly ranked in many decades. Also he's doing it at the end of the year so it's fresher in people's minds! Should be some big names from the Olympics of course, Jessica Ennis coming for yet another 3rd place perhaps?

Considering he has gone up all of one place, and she has shot into the top 10 which no one thought she'd do. Again it will be because he won Wimbledon, got to No1 in the world and won Olympic gold.

November 16, 20168 yr The irony when the award is 'PERSONALITY' and Andy Murray is void of any personality whatsoever :heehee: People have been saying this ever since Nigel Mansell won the trophy in 1986. It never gets old, never. Murray's achievements can't be denied so he'll probably triumph again. Especially since tennis is a very popular sport among voters. Mo Farah had better get second place though as he has now achieved more than any British Track and Field athlete ever and, Murray aside, I really can't see anyone else getting past him apart from Brexit-era voters that is.

November 30, 20168 yr Should be Mo but it looks like he's destined never to win it. At least there aren't any other athletes in it this time, so he may well come second.
December 1, 20168 yr Jamie Vardy for how he played during Leicester City's title winning run is probably why he was nominated.
December 2, 20168 yr Mo Farah should have won last year but for some reason the World Athletics Championships are never held in as high esteem as the Olympics. I guess the viewing figures are a lot lower. I think it's actually tougher to win the Worlds as there are more top athletes there - the Olympics only allows a certain number of athletes per country to compete. Although Murray was deserving last year, in hindsight the public should have waited until this year to give him another award. Mind you, Farah still wouldn't have won last year in any case as he perplexingly failed to make the rostrum.
December 2, 20168 yr There's restrictions on the number of athletes per country in the Worlds as well I think. From memory it's three, and the reigning champion of the event can go as a fourth.

December 7, 20168 yr Leicester City should win the team of the year award but their shambolic Premier League title defense so far might stop them from doing so.
