Argh: I keep forgetting about Boys & Girls, it really was in and out of the chart too quickly :(

Actually I could say the same about Dessert, didn't expect to like that as much as I do!

198 | will.i.am f/ Pia Mia - "Boys & Girls"

I may be in a minority on this forum but I freakin' love will.i.am's music! His beats are always so sick and he often recruits some of my favorite newcomers to sing with him on those songs. Pia Mia was a blessing to 2015 and I'm glad her talents were at least used by someone this year and although B&G wasn't exactly the hit I was hoping for it's gotten some regular rotation from me ever since it debuted.

197 | Dawin f/ Silentó - "Dessert"

I actually hated this song first. There was just something so off about the song that I couldn't really place my finger on, but quickly my irritation turned to guilty pleasure as I couldn't help but sing along when it came on. My friends played this song a lot!

196 | Kungs vs. Cookin' On 3 Burners - "This Girl"

This song probably surprised me the most in 2016. I went to Magaluf with my friends in August and it's hard to deny the fact that this was definitely THE song of the trip and possibly the song of the summer. The beat is so infectious and you really can't not dance when it starts playing.

192 | Adele - "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)"

I'm not the biggest Adele fan but when she releases bangers I'm sold. This was one of those bangers. After initially only hearing 'Hello' and 'When We Were Young' I was sure I wouldn't like a single song on that album, but thankfully I found this album's standout. Much better than both the preceding singles!

Hiya Joseph, sorry for not commenting in a few days, been busy!!

I usually say Adele isn't one of my faves as she's not the most exciting but I must say that I've really quite enjoyed some of the singles from this era. Especially SMLTYNL and WWWY. The former probably being my favourite as it's nice when she does an uptempo and it has quite the catchy tune too. Even though she's not one of my faves, I'm glad she's still getting so much success if we get a few tunes per era to go with it.

will.i.am seems to have completely dropped off the map in terms of music! Boys & Girls was quite catchy and I did enjoy it but in 2016, it does just sound a bit dated. I'm sure it would have been a massive held-back #1 a few years back but times have certainly changed so I hope he can adapt to that and get some more hits still, his tracks are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me

Little Mix are on absolute fire at the moment, single after single is just 10/10, if Touch makes #1 on my personal chart (likely!!) then they're last six tracks will have all been #1s there! They used to be great too but they have totally upped the content a few notches recently. You Gotta Not is one of my favourite album tracks too, if we were getting an eight single campaign then it would be a great single too but there's a few more I'd like first for sure. Hopefully Oops, No More Sad Songs and F.U. or Nothing Else Matters (although these are both unlikely unfortunately :() Power is kinda bad imo lol.

Looking forward to the rest!!

Adele.

Boys & Girls was nowhere near as big a hit as I expected, a shame really! :( Same for Dessert, it felt like it had a lot more going for it than what it actually managed.

I generally love will.i.am too! His music is so much fun and he stands out in the market I think. Boys & Girls isn't Pia's strongest outing but I LOVED Do It Again, and Touch was a solid follow-up too, a shame she hasn't properly broken through!

I think guilty pleasure sums up Dessert quite well for me too!

Hey Josh, no worries!! :heehee:

I think I always underrate Adele actually, I adored 19 but I've not given 21 or 25 many listens really, but every time I go back to them, I remember how good they are! I'm glad she released an uptempo to show there's more to her than just ballads :D

I'm really surprised by the muted reaction from the public to Boys & Girls! He was inescapable with huge tunes in 2013-14 and then he finally follows up It's My Birthday and it barely does anything, strange! I hope he can get a few more hits going forward, definitely one of the most fun artists around I'd say :(

Little Mix are indeed on fire right now! Touch is such a solid song, expect it to appear later in this countdown *.* You Gotta Not is a huge tune, not really a potential single as the reaction among fans seems quite muted, plus they have Oops and No More Sad Songs which are much bigger priorities I'd say! I do like Power but it's probably only about 7th on my rank of the album oops.

9 The Tide

Again I'm kinda pushing my own rules to the limit here, as The Tide haven't exactly released much this year, but I felt it wouldn't be right to exclude them from the countdown because they've had a huge impact on my year. First, a bit of background. The Tide is an American boyband, comprising of lead singer Austin Corini, guitarist Drew Dirksen, bassist Levi Jones and drummer Nate Parker (in the picture above, l-r: Drew, Nate, Austin, Levi). They are signed to The Vamps' record label, Steady Records, and have supported them on two tours so far with a third coming next year. So far they've released two singles - Young Love and Click My Fingers, with an EP accompanying the latter too.

I first heard about The Tide over Twitter when it was announced they had signed to The Vamps' label in early 2015. I saw them live on The Vamps' arena tour that following May, and I liked what I heard. I kinda forgot about them until Young Love was announced, a week before its release and about two weeks before I saw them live supporting The Vamps again this April. I really liked the song, and it made #2 in my chart, and was totally hooked from that point on. I've seen them headlining three times this year alongside the support slot, and I think they've got so much potential as a group.

Click My Fingers was played for the first time at their 'fanfest' gigs at the start of summer and it sounded amazing to me right from the first listen, the way it builds into a huge drum and bass chorus is excellent and if given a chance, I knew it'd be a bit. Shame it hasn't actually ever been given a chance. Later that night, I met Levi and Drew after the show (click the links for pictures - that Levi picture is probably my favourite picture of me ever), which was great because they're my favourite two, in that order!

I've become a bit of a Twitter fangirl for them too, I must admit  I've got three of the four following me, typically it's Levi that isn't. So if anyone fancies tweeting @TheTideLevi to tell him to follow @JosephStyles11, feel free! I've made a few friends this way too, so it's been an overwhelmingly positive experience being a superfan of The Tide this year, and I'm super excited for what the future holds for them.

Recommendation

Hope you enjoy seeing Adele! I'm blown away just from online clips and I can't begin to comprehend the feeling you'd get from seeing her in the flesh.

'Thinking 'Bout You' is an album highlight from Dangerous Woman and the perfect closer. I love the ascending vocals in the pre-chorus that lead into a glorious, stuttery hook - perhaps not single-worthy but it still holds it own against songs that are, nonetheless.

New Girl was such a fantastic debut song! Impossible to not like something so happy & joyous.

This Girl meanwhile one of the big 2016 dance songs, in fact when it took off commercially is when I began to tire of it actually but I'll always enjoy it from this point on.

Greedy, You Gotta Not & Thinking Bout You are all great album tracks, I would especially love if Greedy became a single.

Boys & Girls was decent for a bit but it's pretty cheesy.

This Girl is actually my least favourite song of the year though. :puke2: So irritating.

Can't say I've heard that much from The Tide, but that song sounds good!

I really hope they get a chance to break through, they have so many potential hits from what I've heard live!

I'm incredibly excited, it's gonna be such a fantastic evening, I've not heard a single bad word about any of her shows

I totally agree with you on Thinking Bout You! It's not a huge hit single but it's a perfect closer and it's just utterly sublime

I didn't really get into This Girl until its commercial push so thankfully I didn't have that issue! It did tire on me near the end of its top 40 life though but most big hits do really :heehee:

This Girl seems quite love/hate! It has so much love but those who don't like it, really really don't like it!

181 Thomas Jack & Jasmine Thompson - Rise Up - 38-10-16-30-X (4 weeks)

182 Alyssa Reid - Tomorrow - 13-18-23-27-38-X (5 weeks)

183 Coldplay - Hymn for the Weekend - 13-13-17-30-37-X (5 weeks)

184 Alicia Keys - Blended Family (What You Do For Love) [feat. A$AP Rocky] - 10-12-19-29-39-X (5 weeks)

185 Justin Bieber - Company - 38-31-24-15-18-25-29-35-X (8 weeks)

186 Bruno Mars - 24K Magic - 24-16-22-31-X (4 weeks)

187 JP Cooper - September Song 31-13-25-... (3+ weeks)

188 Daniel Skye - Good as It Gets - 16-6-17-28-X (4 weeks)

189 All Saints - Make U Love Me - n/a

190 Cappa - I'm Good - 36-21-16-24-X (4 weeks)

This section kicks off with a bit of BJSC. D'yermak'er sent Cappa with I'm Good this year, and it's one of the highest BJSC entries of the year in my EOY! The track was one of the very few to make my chart actually, it's an incredibly catchy track with an excellent melody in the chorus. Another album track just above it from All Saints - Make U Love Me shows off the group's harmonies really well, it's impossible to resist.

The top 10 hits start to filter in more from this section upwards, with three featuring here! The first one is at #188, as Daniel Skye makes his first appearance of three in this countdown. Good As It Gets was Daniel's third hit in my chart and his third top 10, although it failed to hold up as well as his previous hit, the #5 peaking Smile. Two #10 hits are also in this section, the first of which comes from Alicia Keys and A$AP Rocky with Blended Family (What You Do For Love ). The track was the second top 10 for both artists, with Alicia previously hitting the top tier with #5 hit Girl On Fire, and A$AP Rocky making it to #2 on Selena Gomez's Good For You. #181 sees DJ Thomas Jack and vocalist Jasmine Thompson team up for the #10-peaking Rise Up, a quirky dance tune with sublime vocals from Jasmine. It failed to hang around for long however, hence its relatively low placing here!

JP Cooper's in at #187 with September Song, his only placing this year but he's certainly one to watch for next year. It's just below Bruno Mars' 24K Magic, by far his best song as a lead artist for me! I'm not really much of a Bruno fan I must admit, but I'm most definitely here for this track, it stands out from the crowd and I find it impossible not to sing along. In contrast, I normally LOVE Justin Bieber and he's generally a dead cert to place high in my chart (his two dance features went to #1 for me and are much higher in the countdown), but Company, the fourth single from Purpose, failed to make as good an impression as he normally does. Nevertheless, it was another top 15 placing for him!

Also in this section is the only Coldplay track I can say I really like (I find Chris Martin's voice quite dull 99% of the time). Hymn for the Weekend is at #183, just missing the top 10 two weeks running due to it being very busy around that time! The song has uncredited vocals from Beyoncé, who provides a great soothing contrast from the soaring chorus on the track. Finally, Alyssa Reid delivered a powerful motivational track in Tomorrow, which talks about people's missed opportunities and how you "can't wait for tomorrow" when something is so important to you.

Recommendation

186 | Bruno Mars - "24K Magic"

I took a week or so to warm up to this but then at some point it suddenly clicked lol. This is an immensely catchy song and for me feels somewhat like an improved sequel to 'Uptown Funk' in a way, though it still feels fresh.

185 | Justin Bieber - "Company"

Unpopular opinion time: I would have much preferred Bieber to have gotten a huge hit with this song than with both 'What Do You Mean?' and 'Love Yourself'. 'Company' feels so much more smooth and cool than the other two songs and the only song from 'Purpose' that I love more than this one is 'Sorry'.

183 | Coldplay & Beyoncé - "Hymn For The Weekend"

When Coldplay teamed up with Rihanna on 'Princess of China' five years ago (wow...), it immediatelly shot way up into my Top 5 Coldplay songs ever. When I heard they were teaming up with Beyoncé now I had a similar tingle. I'll admit it didn't quite meet my expectations but I did end up loving it even though it grew a bit old since it got overplayed to death on radio here in Iceland lol.

Hi Joseph!

I think JP Cooper could well be one to watch as you said, Perfect Strangers is the best Jonas Blue track for me and September Song is really nice, was thinking it might turn into a chart hit but that doesn't seem to be happening anymore. Hope his next single can make more of an impact and he doesn't become one of those people who can only get hits on dance tracks a la Becky Hill :(

I was never huge on Coldplay either actually and also quite dislike Chris Martin but I enjoyed their output a fair bit this era. Both Adventure of a Lifetime and Hymn for the Weekend were both 10/10 tracks for me. Of course, Bey steals the show with just her minimal lines but the chorus is also rather catchy!

:D

Ooh interesting that you prefer Company to two of the three big hits from Purpose :o it never hit me as much as any of the other three but it's a good song nonetheless!

Hey Josh! Thanks once again :D

Yeah I'm very intrigued as to what JP does next! September Song sounds very fresh and current, even if it doesn't smash in the end it could just be laying some groundwork for the next single to smash. Perfect Strangers is probably my least favourite of the three Jonas Blue songs actually but it's pretty decent still!

Glad I'm not alone re. Coldplay! Adventure of a Lifetime is actually quite boring to me, it doesn't really go anywhere and kinda drags, but Hymn for the Weekend intrigued me from first listen! A very solid effort from them.

Hi Joseph,

171 Naughty Boy - Should've Been Me (feat. Kyla & Popcaan) - 6-… (1+ weeks)

172 Adele - Water Under The Bridge - 31-14-22-28-… (4+ weeks)

173 Tove Lo - Cool Girl - 20-10-15-22-37-X (5 weeks)

174 99 Souls - The Girl Is Mine (feat. Destiny's Child & Brandy) - 40-15-16-18-19-27-33-36-X (8 weeks)

175 Delta Goodrem - The River - 21-12-24-26-30-21-25-38-X (8 weeks)

176 Years & Years - Meteorite - 6-13-25-38-X (4 weeks)

177 Bebe Rexha - No Broken Hearts (feat. Nicki Minaj) - 6-12-21-28-X (4 weeks)

178 Little Mix - Oops (feat. Charlie Puth) - 16-… (1+ weeks)

179 Olly Murs - You Don't Know Love - 20-27-26-19-26-29-35-X (7 weeks)

180 Dami Im - Sound of Silence - 13-19-31-X (3 weeks)

Eurovision rears its head again now, with runner-up Dami Im at #180. Sound of Silence reached #13 after her stunning performance at the contest, and as a result it became Dami's first chart hit. Just above is Olly Murs with my favourite track of his to date. I'm not really much of an Olly fan most of the time, and sure enough, I didn't like the follow-up Grow Up that much, but You Don't Know Love is an excellent pop song. It never hit the highs of his only top 10 hit, the #5 peaking Up, but it certainly didn't tail off as quickly in my affections. Shame the public didn't go for it more really!

Little Mix and Charlie Puth have both appeared already with album tracks, and now they appear together on Oops, a track from the former's recent album Glory Days. Oops is most definitely my favourite non-single from the album, possibly one of their best ever, although I'm hoping it won't stay that way and will become the third single from the album! Bebe Rexha and Nicki Minaj are just above with No Broken Hearts, the first single from Bebe's upcoming debut album. No Broken Hearts seems to divide opinion, but I liked it instantly, getting to #6 in my chart despite being released only one day prior. However it tailed off very quickly, falling 6 places in its first full week. Nicki has another song still to come, also as a feature, but this is Bebe's only appearance.

A few more top 10s are also in this section. Years & Years had an excellent 2015 in my chart, with two #1s in the form of Shine and Eyes Shut and a #1 debut album too. Meteorite, the first single since the era finished, matched the peak of Desire but didn't replicate its longevity and slumped out of the chart pretty quickly. It's a good song but not one of their best! Their Desire collaboration partner Tove Lo is also in this section with Cool Girl, the lead single from her second album Lady Wood. Tove's highest charting single is actually Desire, and Talking Body at #7 being her highest as a lead artist, and whilst Cool Girl's peak isn't far behind, it didn't manage to finish as high up as that did in my EOY last year (50th!). The last top 10 hit in this section comes from Naughty Boy, who has one of the newest songs on the countdown, being released in the final week before the cut-off point. Should've Been Me is my favourite song of his so far! Popcaan actually has one more song left to come but Naughty Boy and Kyla don't feature again.

In the rest of the section, Delta Goodrem makes her first appearance of three with The River, the fifth single from her Wings of the Wild album. It became her second single to miss #1 following the #5 peaking Love Thy Will Be Done, and her first single to miss my top 10, but nonetheless it had reasonably good longevity. Buzzjack member 99 Souls scored a top 5 hit in the UK at the start of the year with The Girl Is Mine, a mash-up of Destiny's Child hit Girl and Brandy & Monica hit The Boy Is Mine. I loved both songs already and they work incredibly well together, a genius move from 99 Souls I think. Finally, we have the final appearance from Adele with Water Under the Bridge, which was already one of my favourite album tracks on 25 and has become at least my second favourite of the singles, not sure if it will overtake Hello or not!

Recommendation

Cool Girl and The Girl Is Mine, proper choons :dancing: :music:

Should've Been Me is another good effort from Naughty Boy, shame it doesn't seem to be doing anything (yet).
