I don't think odds make that much difference, however they likely do prompt people to listen to the top few more to see what the hype is about.

What I find particularly pointless about them is that everyone seems to just follow the same pattern with them and not really show any variance. I'd rather see a thread where people stated the following sorts of things:

Which 5 are most likely to win?

What two entries are potential dark horses?

Which entries stand no chance of making it through the semis?

etc

Although I'm not sure that would be any better at generating discussion either.

If we were to do a no odds contest (and I'm not that fussed either way tbh), perhaps people could PM someone their odds instead and see whether they all agree or not after the contest has finished?

I remember in the last contest I was predicted to come bottom 10 and in the end I was only a few points off the Top 10 :D I wonder what will happen this time seeing as my predictions are fairly high :o

don't forget sometimes getting good odds can be a bad thing for over hype

i really enjoy the odds. it's a good way to see which songs are predicted to do well. it's also fun to see how they over or underperform eventually

you tell em!
I don't see why we'd need to abolish odds for a contest, that just detracts from discussion and immersion of the contest. What next, make the voting threads read only in case a few people proclaiming love for a song creates false hype and gives an advantage?
Yes ODDS can overhype but thats the fun part of the contest that nothing is safe, nothing that is predicted to do well can do well etc.
Yeah, removing odds/the predicta and thus stifling discussion surrounding the contest does not seem like the way to go :P It's a bit crap getting overhyped (this happened to me only this month!!) but equally you can do better than you expect - personally my most pleasing result ever was 'Arcade Summer' going top 10 in BJSC 87 - it got the worst reception on plug and was predicted no higher than low top 20 by anyone. The add-ons are all part of the fun!
there have been tons of overperformances/dark horses and their opposites in this contest (see: Leave This Place last month), so odds never really make that much of a difference. It just adds to the fun and speculation of everything!

My 18 wasn't a discovery for me in the slightest but it was far and away the best track in the contest.

I was also too harsh in retrospect to another track I already knew and I hope it doesn't suffer as a result if it does end up vying for the win.

MUNA absolutely MUST win. Best song I've found from this contest in ages. Yehasi to do iT

It ain't happening bb
