February 20, 20179 yr New Ed already being behind 'Shape Of You' doesn't bode well for an all-Ed top 3, I think it'll be a Shape/Castle/Human top 3 in that order.
February 20, 20179 yr New Ed already being behind 'Shape Of You' doesn't bode well for an all-Ed top 3, I think it'll be a Shape/Castle/Human top 3 in that order. I think it depends on what gets performed at the brits. He could go for a medley!
February 20, 20179 yr I'd assume the top 10 will end up being... 1. Ed [shape] 2. Ed [Castle] 3. Rag'n'Bone Man 4. Ed [How Would You] 5. Katy Perry 6. ZAYN 7. Jax Jones 8. The Chainsmokers 9. Kygo 10. Take That
February 20, 20179 yr Author I think the top 3 will consist of Ed Sheeran tracks with Human 4 and Katy 5, with only a day sales to go after the BRITs show, I can't see too much movement in the top 10.
February 20, 20179 yr Yeah, the Brits effect is more likely to effect next week's singles chart than this week's.
February 20, 20179 yr Yeah I was thinking that too as thursdays streams are usually a bit dodgy and the brits is Wednesday night I think new ed will go top 5 it's still doing better than what KPwas doing this time last week on iTunes / Spotify so it should debut a little higher than she did but top 2 not looking likely now
February 20, 20179 yr Are we expecting Ed to perform “Castle On The Hill” ? He seems pretty desperate for that to hit #1.
February 20, 20179 yr I think Castle lends itself to performance a bit more so I hope he does that. Shape of You at the Grammys didn't entirely work - it was a bit awkward as it's a dance song he was trying to make into a guitar song. Whereas Castle on Graham Norton felt a bit more organic.
February 20, 20179 yr Its a good opening for Take That in the midweeks but sadly it wont last as its falling fast. I would be in hope that the cd single sales, itunes sales and streaming thus far will secure then a top 20 position. I would have been delighted with a top 10 but its almost out of the question now. The complete lack of promotion has done nothing to help them which i am really disappointed about.
February 20, 20179 yr It'd be great to see Castle get the performance boost. I would be stunned if it ever reached #1 though, since Shape Of You has only been there 6/7 weeks and surely has another 6 or 7 left to go
February 20, 20179 yr God the UK charts have become sooooo boring. So little excitement these days; streaming has killed the charts and my interest in them (a chart-o-phile since 1987). There's so little movement; Sheeran's domination of the Top 2 and now Top 5 is beyond beige. I miss the days of a dynamic chart - perhaps being in my 30's means it's time for me to bow out of this forum; RIP UK music charts.

I would be stunned if it ever reached #1 though, since Shape Of You has only been there 6/7 weeks and surely has another 6 or 7 left to go Are you seriously saying SOY has got another 6 weeks shelf life at the top, the music industry will have a field day with that, and start panicking what to do next, that's practically having 2 tracks in a spate of 12 months on 14 weeks (along with Drake). One dance is not even 1 year old yet.
February 20, 20179 yr Wouldn't surprise me if 'Shape Of You' matched the Drake run, it really isn't going anywhere. We're going to have to get used to songs spending upwards of ten weeks at number one anyway.
February 20, 20179 yr Author Between Drake and Ed Sheeran there have been only 5 different number ones
February 20, 20179 yr I don't think Ed will last any more than 10 weeks tbh. Considering Drake had the 100:1 ratio at his advantage, and Ed doesn't have this, it's very unlikely Ed'll come near Drake's run. Also bear in mind that the charts were absolutely DEAD at that point, there's been plenty of new releases recently and a fair few scheduled to come soon, yeah I can't see Ed doing many more weeks. Realistically, I think the next number one will either come from something that explodes Lukas Graham style, Harry Styles or Clean Bandit's new one with Zara Larsson.
