Steps have announced on Facebook they're performing tragedy :/

It's actually a tragedy for them to be performing that song instead of their new one

Hang on - I thought Steps had said yesterday that they were perfecting the dance routing for the new single in time for SNT? Can't believe they are performing 'tragedy' what a mistake.
If they don't get #1 or even worse miss the top 40, they'll only have themselves to blame

omg its up to producers as to what they sing, SNT is not a really a promo show for new material. I'm certain that, if it was up to them, they would of course be singing their new song but that doesn't fit in with the segment they have been allocated which is basically karoke. How can you expect people to sing along to songs they don't know.

Who knows, they may be performing at the start of the show with their new single anyway.

No they wouldn't.

No they wouldn't.

in that case, Robbie would've performed LML instead of his new song. And if it is the case of being up to the shows producers as to what they sing, you're saying that every musical guest on X Factor is told what to sing?

The Dreams song is great, much more lively than most chart dance these days and I hope it does well!
Urgh I knew they'd be doing Tragedy -_- how awful

Yes, unless there is an option for them to sing their new somg in addition to whatever they are there for. Tonight, Steps are performing in the Singalong Live segment where it is basically karaoke with viewers from home having to sing the right words to win momey. Therefore, a well known song is always used. A one day old song is not well-known.

Jennifer Hudson didn't perform her new single two weeks ago because the producers booked her to perform 'Spotlight' for a humorous skit at the end of the show. Little Mix & Jess Glynne didn't perform their new singles last year. The only artists to do so since it returned 4/5 years ago are Michael Bublé, Craig David and Robbie Williams.

Oh no. At least SOTD might get some kind of boost through association. It's better than them not performing at all I guess.

Bye bye Steps  4, it was obviously just a novelty.

Not a bad song to my ears but nothing special, much like the majority of their 90s output.

Ed's #1 is safe then.

81. Future - Mask Off

Think this could be the next rap crossover hit - blowing up in America (#2 on Spotify there) and sounds like a mix of Panda and Black Beatles. Seeing it on quite a few memes too and the flute is ridiculously catchy!

It was never not safe.

Yes it was. That's why Steps aren't performing SOTD tonight, they want to give Ed a chance.

Don't you think if they had the choice they'd have performed the new one??

Ed was always safe for #1 - A performance of SOTD I think would have been the difference between it making Top 20 or low Top 40.

#347 & #693 - Deeper Shade of You

#546 - Last Thing on My Mind

#778 - Chain Reaction

#1105 - Say You'll Be Mine

#1323 - Better Best Forgotten

#1428 - Better the Devil You Know

I really wish a new prime-time music show was created - not necessarily a Top Of The Pops clone... just a major platform for artists to perform new tracks each week. It'd make the charts far more interesting than what we have at the minute. Spotify playlists have way too much influence.
It was never not safe.

I know I was only kidding! Steps were never going to go near #1 even in the sales only chart. Ed'll be #1 (with either Shape Of You or Galway Girl) for at least 5 or 6 more weeks yet I'd imagine!

Hope so! It'd be about time he had a big hit, so odd that his only top 40 entry so far (I think?) is on a Maroon 5 single...

I can imagine quite a few on FUTURE / HNDRXX being big crossover hits.
