I really wish a new prime-time music show was created - not necessarily a Top Of The Pops clone... just a major platform for artists to perform new tracks each week. It'd make the charts far more interesting than what we have at the minute. Spotify playlists have way too much influence.

I'm less sure about this; I've always thought that part of the reason why performances on the likes of X-Factor, SNTA, Graham Norton etc have so much impact is because they get seen by people who wouldn't watch a music-themed show.

This! There really seems to be limited options for artists to promote on TV - only the biggest acts can get a slot on the likes of Graham Norton, shows like SNTA seem to not want artists to promote new releases so what is left - This Morning, Loose Women, BBC Breakfast? Hardly shows that are going to pull in huge sales uplifts.

Great to see Martin Solveig climb up to #22 as the Ed songs start to fall on iTunes. :cheer:

:o I never noticed this, it was down in the 60s when I last looked.

Any particular cause?

59. Bush With Gavin Rossdale - Mad Love

72. Kaiser Chiefs - Hole in My Soul

74. Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict a Riot

Kaiser Chiefs perfomed on SNT last night and so did Busch with their new single.

Thank god Stargate, Sia and Pink are flopping, it's the worst song anyone of those have ever had their name on. No wonder it was released as a Stargate single and not Sia and Pink duet.

Maybe so but there's definitely an audience for music-oriented shows. They just need the right format, the right advertising and artists that aren't already dominating the airwaves and playlists.

I know! No Popworld, no An Audience With..., no TOTP. The BRITs usually get over 5 million viewers so it's not like our country doesn't enjoy watching music performances.

You just have to do what we do here in the States--invent award shows!

In addition to the Grammys, we have: the American Music Awards, the People's Choice Awards, the MTV awards, the Nickelodeon (Kids and Teens version) awards, the iHeart Radio awards, the Billboard awards. Then the country genre has at least 3 different awards shows, urban music has the BET awards....

Added to R1 playlist and front page on Hot Songs iTunes

It's been on the Radio 1 playlist for about a month. It was used as Danny Howard's Push The Tempo on last nights Dance Anthems, but can't imagine that giving it a major boost.

Oh, got confused with Martin Jensen.

It'll be due to Hot Songs then. Solo Dance had the massive boost last week for the same reason.

Its sad how Martin Solveig has now become so generic with this song with the pitched vocal drop in it and everything. I wish he would do another 'Hello' or 'Intoxicated' style track tbh.

I wouldn't call 'Places' generic myself. Just because it has vocal pitching effects doesn't make it generic.

If any song of his is generic it would be 'Intoxicated', that just seemed like him hopping on the future house train (but admittedly it was with his own brand of it rather than being an Oliver Heldens clone, and aside, 'Intoxicated' is a proper tune!)

'Do It Right' deserved all the success that is coming to 'Places' though, that is literally one of my favourite songs of the decade, no exaggeration.

Well I would say the drop is very generic sounding with its chopped vocals (like the recent dance songs By Your Side, It Ain't Me, Call On Me) if not the rest of the song.

The Bush song is very good, they performed it on The Voice. I like the way it says (Bush With Gavin Rossdale) now he is in The Voice, reminds me of 'Hayley Williams (of Paramore)' being the artist credit for Airplanes presumably so that it would appeal more to people who had heard a few Paramore songs but didn't know who the singer was!

'Hello' was (and still is) amazing.

Yes a great tune from when progressive house was still a big force in the charts.

Another vote on how Places is a little generic.

It's a shame Do It Right couldn't do much better, that, Hello, +1 and Intoxicated are such great tunes.

Places, meh, i feel i've heard songs like that a billion times in 2017 already.

 11. Zedd & Alessia Cara - Stay :o
if 'Places' is generic then what does that make 'Stay' then?

Super ultra hyper gigantic generic?
