As if Meekul has started including Spanish words in his posts !! They were hard enough to understand in the first place :')

I've kinda done a 180 on this too. It wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for when we first got it but it does worm it's way into your head and the video helped me enjoy it more too. I can't say the same for Swish Swish though :(

Swish Swish is so so bad

Yeah, a song like this discovered on the album, with more time to get hype from growing on fans released later in the campaign, was the way to go tbh. Only problem was she had nothing to replace i with :(

This gets so much airplay in Italy! I must have heard it atleast 3 times a day just in the radio in the car or at bars etc. I've really grown to love this song, it's ashame it didn't perform better.

We're looking at less than 15k away from Silver certificatin. Get to streaming girls.

Me too, I love it.

Swish Swish was played more in Spain :/

In the top tier of singles from her for me. Absolutely love it. Gutted that it did so bad, chart wise. But eh what can we do!?

I don't quite get what happened.

It WAS a huuge grower. Half of us HAAATED it at first, but I thought radio would still have played it till it clicked.

I think some slight tweaking would have made it a bigger hit. The beat of the final two choruses should have come in earlier, and the rap is too long. It is a huge single and I love it.

This is me all over I’m quite fond of the track now but the timing was a major problem.

2 years after this flopped was released it has a sudden surge of popularity on YouTube over the past 9 days, really peaking over the past 2 days where it’s become the top 4 most viewed video (was 2nd yesterday).

Which has caused this:

I noticed that too! What's caused this?

I really loved 'Bon Apppetit' and was sad that it marked the beginning of Katy's fall from grace. I always thought that tainted people's thoughts on the song but looking around the forum it seems that it's actually quite the fan fave!

I remember being in the minority when everyone else was calling it awful at the time. But, fair few people came around in the end. But yes, I agree it was time and place for Katy that didn’t help the song. The first single after “the haircut” too. I don’t think it would ever have ended up being one of her smashes though, it was a little too unique sounding and the rap was too long for the kind of song it was.

Bon Appetit is still one of my Katy faves tbh

The video was just a little gross at points although fun (flamethrowering her tongue was just nasty) and the disastrous SNL performance and its memeability made it very uncool very fast unfortunately.

Katy Perry’s history-making streak of 20 consecutive top 40 hits, stretching back all the way to 2008’s “I Kissed A Girl,” came to a screeching halt in 2017 when “Bon Appétit” stalled at number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100. The unforgivable irony is that it’s one of the pop star’s best singles. Featuring Migos and produced by Max Martin & cohorts, “Bon Appétit” is a bouncy, sex-positive banger that deftly blends pop, trap and house elements. It also boasts one of the catchiest choruses in recent memory. So what went wrong?

The not-exactly-subtle lyrics were pilloried by some, but Katy has never shied away from a double entendre. (Exhibit A is “Peacock”). Then there was the faux outrage about the involvement of Migos. The “365” diva was criticized for working with alleged homophobes, but the same energy was nowhere to be seen when other artists hit them up for a feature. In the end, I think it came down to the right song at the wrong time. A campy banger with ’90s house elements didn’t have a place on top 40 radio in 2017, which is the kiss of death for a commercial pop release.

This tragic tale of woe does have a happy ending, however. “Bon Appétit” has already been embraced as a firm fan favorite and is widely acknowledged, at least by the great minds of Stan Twitter, as a cult classic. And then there’s the (incredible) video. Which has taken on a life of its own, amassing close to 700 million views on YouTube. Revisit Katy’s misunderstood and sorely slept-on bop below.

Some bon apple tea for your Wednesday

Why has it suddenly got almost a billion views?!

Because it's one of her best songs and people are finally bopping.

Yes yes that, but WHY now, what started the trend?? People were waaay too late to the party
