BJSC106 - Get Off Your High Horse (Big Bold Brassy Mix) by Rollo Goes Camping

It was only a matter a time before Rollo from Faithless was asked to represent Rolloland. Rollo's full name is Rowland Constantine O'Malley Armstrong. His younger sister is Dido who has been a guest singer on many Faithless songs. Her full name is Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O'Malley Armstrong. Before forming Faithless in 1995 with Maxi Jazz and Sister Bliss,Rollo had some chart success on his own. He got to number 26 with 'Let This Be A Prayer' under the name 'Rollo Goes Spiritual' and to number 32 with 'Love,Love,Love - Here I Come' under the name 'Rollo Goes Mystic'. The song by him we have chosen reached number 43 under his other moniker,'Rollo Goes Camping'.

Re-Invention II - Heroes by Peter Gabriel

For this spin-off,we have chosen Peter Gabriel's orchestral version of Heroes by David Bowie. It's from an album of cover versions Peter released in 2010 called 'Scratch By Back',all of them recorded with an orchestra. Among the acts whose songs he covered were Arcade Fire,Elbow and Radiohead. The original plan was for a simultaneous album called 'I'll Scratch Yours' to be released with the 12 acts all covering songs by Peter Gabriel but many of them were slow to record their covers and it didn't come out until 2013 and even then some of the acts had to be replaced like Radiohead who never bothered.

BJSC107 - No Danger by The Delgados

The Delgados were a Scottish band formed in 1994. They are named after the Spanish road cyclist Pedro Delgado. They also named their first two albums after terms used in cycling,'Domestiques' and 'Peloton'. They had nine top 100 singles but none of them charted higher than number 61. They split up in 2005. 'No Danger' was a song we entered for the 90s v 00s spin off but when the draw was made, our 90s song was chosen so we have now entered it into the main contest. It's from the Delgados' 2000 album 'The Great Eastern' which won the Planet Sound album of the year poll and was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. When released as a single,it reached number 77.

Despite 5 out of 5 people predicting Rolloland not to qualify,we have once again defied expectations to qualify for the final of BJSC107,meaning our target of 5 qualifications for this year has already been achieved. Thanks to all those who liked our song enough to vote for it. Here is the kids' choir version of the song with dancing nuns as well:

BJSC108 - Close Up by The Art Of Noise

The Art Of Noise were Trevor Horn and his production team of Gary Langan,J J Jeczalik and Anne Dudley. 'Close Up' is one of the remixes of their hit single Close (To The Edit). The Art Of Noise were on the same ZTT label as Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Propaganda. All three groups' singles came out with several remixes, most notably Two Tribes by Frankie which was kept at number 1 for nine weeks by a different version being released each week. We hope 'Close Up' will do as well as 'Das Testaments Des Mabuse' by Propaganda.

In other news,a mystery country has entered 'Annie,Let's Not Wait' by Guillemots for Rolloland in the Masquerade II spinoff but which song have we entered?

Tartford awarded the song their maximum 12 points while Suedeonia gave it 10 points. The four other countries to vote for it were Thelonia 7,Aelandor 6,Jadakissnia 5 and FARC 2. BJSC109 - Whale by Arsenal

Arsenal are a Belgian electronic music band with two permanent members who have been going since 1999. They collaborate with singers and musicians from various countries to produce music from a wide range of genres. As a fan of Arsenal FC,I was intrigued when I saw their name on my list of Spotify recommendations recently. They are named after a World War 2 weapons depository which is next to their studio in Brussels. 'Whale' is a single taken from their sixth album 'In The Rush Of Shaking Shoulders'.

Bang Gang's live version of Ghost From The Past failed to qualify for the final, finishing 23rd in its semi-final with 30 points. Five countries voted for it with a top score of 10 points from Terra Avium. The other countries were Tinnmark (7 points),Seyetana (6),Beaverdonia (5) and Aesthetica (2). It's only the second song we have entered that didn't receive a maximum score from another country. We finish the year with 6 qualifiers from 10 contests which is one more than our target of 5. BJSC111 - You Will Make It by Jem featuring Vusi Mahlasela

This is my third favourite song of all time. I didn't want to enter it into the contest until I had completed my top 1000 thread so I'm finally able to enter it now. Jem wrote the song shortly after her friend Proof, from the rap group D12,was murdered. The first verse is loosely about him while the second verse is about another friend of hers who died in the World Trade Centre on 9/11. The song features a contribution from the South African singer Vusi Mahlasela and is from her second album 'Down To Earth'. The poem Jem recites at the end was written by the American poet Mary Frye in 1932. Jem has already made two appearances in the BJSC,representing Kylienips in the sixth contest with 'They' and Hitanya in the ninth contest with '24'. She could therefore be possibly breaking the record for the longest gap between BJSC appearances.

Jem finished 5th in her semi-final with 84 points. This is Rolloland's second best semi-final placing. Only Propaganda's fourth place finish in the semi of the 104th contest is above it. The Actual Republic Of Bellamia and St Burbia both gave 'You Will Make It' 12 points. In the final, the song languished in 30th place after the finalists' votes but finished 6th in the jury vote, elevating it to a final position of 24th with 153 points from 21 countries. This is Rolloland's sixth best final placing. Once again, the Actual Republic Of Bellamia awarded the song their maximum points. Thanks to all the countries who gave us points.

BJSC112 - One Night Stand (The Long Night And The Samba) by The Aloof

The Aloof were a British dance/electronica group who released four albums in the 90s. 'One Night Stand' is their only top 40 hit, reaching number 30 in 1996. 'The Long Night And The Samba' is one of five versions of the song on the CD single. It is my sixth favourite song of all time. Another version of the song titled 'The Last Stand' (a more subdued instrumental version) appeared on their album 'Sinking' and it was that version that was part of a repeated loop of music played on Radio 1 for several hours on the day that Princess Diana died.
