Much has been made of the 'Dementia' tax, but what about Labour's proposed Land Value 'Garden' tax?

It's slipped in on page 86 of their manifesto, but with zero detail (which in itself is suspicious).

Yeah, there isn't a garden tax. Seems that vidcapper has been reading the Bigots Bible or the Daily Express as it is euphemistically known.

I saw your URL too, but figured (mistakenly) that quoting from Labour's *own* manifesto would mollify my opponents here.

ISTM that Labour cannot claim to have fully costed their manifesto, while simultaneously floating ideas like a Land Value tax with no figures at all attached. By giving no details they left an open goal for their opponents...

I can hardly remember something that happened before I was even born!

In a way, that's even more damning of Corbyn, in that, despite all of the above, the Tories are still ahead in the polls.

Also, the 45%-ish that've expressed support for the Tories in the polls, are no more all 'fat-cats' than everyone who voted for Brexit were 'racists'.

Every one of them is an individual making a choice that they believe will be best for themselves, their family, and the country (though not necessarily in that order). We can disagree with their choices, but without telepathy, we cannot tell how much or why any particular factor influenced their decision.

That's why it's wrong to criticise people's judgements without understanding the factors behind them.

Vast majority have not made a political opinion of their own, and woul be aurprised to hear it. They have been brainwashed.

Well as you can see from the link - all major parties are considering the long overdue introduction of a LVT - quite unpopular with the (largely) property/asset owning right wing press obviously and therefore spun to make ordinary people feel like it is a tax on them ('garden tax') as opposed to the wealthiest in society.

I hear that claim so often, that I begin to wonder if those who quote it have themselves been brainwashed into believing it. :P

Oh right, so Murdoch and Barclay Brothers etc make people angry about something that doesn't affect them to protect heir intwrests. God our media stinks to high heavens. We need an indepwndent press like other countries.

LVT has been Lib Dem / Liberal policy since at least the 1970s

The Establishment don't like ordinary people to vote, as they tend to vote for what they *actually* want (e.g. Brexit), rather than what they are *told* they should want...

BTW, who'll be watching the Election coverage on Thursday night, and how long will you stay up?

I usually record it, that way I can watch the actual results, but skip all the politician's platitudes... :)

And now you're arguing against yourself since the 'Establishment', if it existed, would want continuation of Conservative rule which is why the media is right now flailing to make the worst Tory campaign in a generation look like a winning formula. To generalise, if you're correct, for more people than not, it shouldn't be in their interest or other's interests to vote Tory, thereby people should 'want' Labour therefore we should be waking up to a Labour landslide on Friday. But you can't say what an entire country wants, that's silly of me.

The Establishment includes the civil service, and they don't care who wins, as their jobs are always safe.

Yes, because the electorate have a habit of voting against the way most of the press want them to vote

errr, nah smart people know propaganda when they see it. It's the uninformed ones who don't. Sorry if that sounds elitist, (I'm working class as I endlessly drone on about) but I hear people choosing to vote for parties like UKIP and Tories (and all the others) for the dumbest of the dumb uninformed reasons - everyone's busy, people would rather relax reading a paper and have everything they think they need handed to them on a plate, all wrapped up and ready to regurgitate.

People are amazingly easy to brainwash. try it some time. Just repeat something you know is not currently being reported in the media, an opinion, a fact. Then repeat it again a few weeks later. Then again. By the end of the year people start repeating it back as facts they have picked up somewhere. I'm not talking dumbass people either, it works even on relatively intelligent people if you can back up your opinions and explain (though they can argue the facts made them alter views).

Hmmm that makes it sound like I've been brainwashing people for a laugh! Oh I'm just like the Mail and Sun and Express and Telegraph - except I use facts, not lies :P

You really have no idea about anything, do you?

Not everywhere though!

Guardian are backing the SNP north of the border! :o

I like how they've done a separate editorial as the election is completely different here and deserves to be recognised as such. Backing Labour in Scotland doesn't make much sense as they're not too relevant in terms of actually contesting seats. It would be like backing Hilary Clinton in Wales.

Well if Corbyn gets in to power the civil service will need to double in size!

I see the Jeremy Corbyn PR exercise to make sure he stays as Labour leader after the election is in full swing!!
