September 14, 20177 yr Author 72. Hushkanukia - St. Patrick - Pvris Good to see Singerpurear enter the wonderful 10cc. Speed Kills is not one of their better songs but should not have finished last in its semi-final. Brian Eno and future winners Bleachers also failed to make the final. Pvris finished with a huge 52 point lead over TV by Eves The Behavior (Desbuanda). Louane's Avenir was 3rd for Daehun. There's a lot going on here with the synths, guitars, drums and a great lead vocal. I like this one. Just two weeks ago,Pvris' second album,'All We Know Of Heaven,All We Need Of Hell',went straight in at no.4 on the UK album chart. 9.2 out of 10. j2SWk859CEU
September 14, 20177 yr St. Patrick is one of the best BJSC winners ever. A stunning introduction for me to a rather good band. Agree on you with 10cc too, that was my semi...uh... I definitely gave it some fairly significant points. I did give my final 12 to the rather cutesy Love Is In Bloom (good pony memories) and my 10 went to the beautifully haunting Tide: The Paradox Effect but it was a very strong top 3 in my votes and this winning came out of nowhere for me because if I'd seen its true potential I'd have been so on it the month before
September 14, 20177 yr me going from 5 DNQ's to a win and then continuing to qualify for more than a year remains iconic
September 15, 20177 yr Author 73. Daehun - Raindrops - Snbrn featuring Kerli A close finish saw Snbrn finish just three points ahead of Air It All Out by Paulini (FARC). Somebody Like You by Max Elto was 3rd for Aquafina. Raindrops is not bad but the vocals and general arrangement of the song are predictable and similar to many other songs from this genre of music. Snbrn is American DJ Kevin Chapman while Kerli comes from Estonia. 5.8 out of 10. KmV4S0cckCI
September 15, 20177 yr People: I much prefer Weekends too Cody so you aren't alone! I wouldn' say I can't see how it won becaus I can but I wasn't a HUGE fan personally. It was much better than the generic twaddle that came 2nd though. My 12 was Kalabalik by Stockholm Syndrome which is still an absolute banger, I also still adore Play by Jolin Tsai and Experience by Kacy Hillwhich completed my top 3, it's a shame only Play made top 10 of those. St. Patrick has to probably be the biggest BJSC grower of all time for me, I didn't even commiserate it let alone point it and yet they're one of my favourite bands now and I'm seeing them live in just over 2 months! At least it didst need my help to win so I didn't do it dirty too much. My 12 was Ida's Maybe I Like It which is such a lovely song, subtle but packs a punch. The top 5 that month was flawless, as I also gave big points to Avenir and TV plus Somebody is a bop and Tide is probably 2nd or 3rd out of Persephonia entries for me. Raindrops is the worst winner so far as a song, and as the reaosn why which I'll get into. It's generic crap and I've never been so mad at BJSC as that winning over Air It All Out which for me was the spirit of BJSC, a song with barely any YouTube views that meant a lot to Jake that was a brilliant discovery for a lot of people. Especially as Raindrops was sort of cheating the veto and sending an obvious winner the moth after when certain points didn't count anymore. But as a song it's just so generic and pretty much everything I hate about the dance that has been a bit much in BJSC the past couple of years. I can't begrudge it winning like I can't any other song as it got the most points and is a fair and square winner, but it just didn't feel right for me.   01 Herzebania // Agnes - Release Me [bJSC 13] 02 FSR Rontvia // Sara Bareilles - Love Song [bJSC 4] 03 Hendinia // Adele - Someone Like You [bJSC 30] 04 Quotosibb // Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood [bJSC 23] 05 Daehun // Indila - Derniere Danse [bJSC 61] 06 Kopecka // Loreen - Sober [bJSC 38] 07 Eledan // Ronya - Hyperventilating [bJSC 44] 08 Hendinia: Ricki-Lee - Raining Diamonds [bJSC 39] 09 Bhangra // Dixie Chicks - Not Ready To Make Nice [bJSC 3] 10 Mdice // Ke$ha - Dolla/Tik Tok [bJSC 18] 11 Fljótavík // Foxes - Youth [bJSC 41] 12 Eledan // RuPaul - Sissy That Walk [bJSC 63] 13 Aeroche // A.G. September 15, 20177 yr really like all 3 of those, but SNBRN was such an uninspired move by the mods especially with it being previously vetoed! omg tho Adonia's entry in BJSC 71  MTr9LItiVPg which is by far and AWAY one of my favourite discoveries in BJSC ever
September 15, 20177 yr 71: 'People' was at least a more inspired Altyr winner than 'I Loved You' was, it's a fairly solid song although one that could easily get a bit grating with repeated listens. I do prefer 'Weekends' as well although neither are massive faves. The rest of the top 3 was an absolute snooze fest so it was the right winner out of that lot at least (not that it was even close) - although annoyingly this is a contest where I sent my votes a little too early before giving songs time to grow, as Christine And The Queens' 'Christine' (the original and superior French version of 'Tilted') missed out on my votes entirely but would have got high points from me if I'd given it just one or two more listens, which would have put it in 3rd place! Still, 5th was actually quite shockingly high for it at the time, I think most people actually didn't think it would even qualify (though Christine is obviously much more popular on here now). I had to give my 12 in this contest to Yeasayer's 'O.N.E.' which is an all-time favourite song  though not at all a discovery as I'd known it for years (it was fantastic to see it going top 10 though, and of course Azure more recently even more belatedly sent another great track from the same album, 'Ambling Alp'). My 10 went to Kacy Hill's 'Experience' which I was going to send myself but ended up giving it away to Bal (still incred though). So my top actual discovery here was my 8 pointer, the lovely 'Someday' by Float Fall  This was my 50th contest, an occasion I marked with... a pretty throwaway trap song, 'Hiding' by San Holo, not one of my finest entries :P This was a little bit before the anniversary entry rule was brought in anyway, not that I necessarily would have taken advantage of it if I was able to. 72: Absolutely love 'St. Patrick', Hushkanukia's best entry with ease  it was a good narrative that it won after they started off with 5 consecutive DNQs as well of course. IIRC I was actually the first person to predict 'St. Patrick' would be a contender and people thought I was mad ~~ one of my few good psychic moments *.* anyway yes, the first of two great explosive rock winners this year, shame we haven't had another one of those for a while. This was a brilliant top 3 (and top 4 ofc xx Never expected Dawn Richard to have done so well <3) in contrast to the last contest, 2 of them were also top 3 in my votes (PVRIS got my 8 and 'Avenir' was my 10, not often I like pure pop songs that much and French is hardly my favourite foreign language especially with pop music, but there was something about that song that I really loved, reminded me a bit of Milky Chance) and 'TV' made my votes as well. My 12 went to Terra Avium with Power Glove's 'Crypt', the first of many songs from Terra Avium that I stanned this year (they ended up having 4 of my top 8 songs of the year ), always love a good spooky instrumental *.* also still big love for my 7 pointer 'Hula Hoop' by Brenmar. 5th to 7th place in the final were all future UK hits, 2 of them were good and one of them very much not so (I didn't need to be reminded again that that horrendous version of 'Show Me Love' existed). 73: Kinda have to agree with Liam here that this is one of the most :/ cases of BJSC picking the wrong winner, I'm not really a huge fan of either 'Raindrops' or 'Air It All Out' but the latter would have meant so much more as a BJSC winner, while it was taking the piss a bit that 'Raindrops' was even allowed to be in the contest after being vetoed just one month earlier. As a song 'Raindrops' is not the worst winner ever but it's certainly nothing special. Again 2 of my top 3 were songs I already knew - gave 10 to Everything Everything's 'Distant Past', a similar case to 'O.N.E.' (although a much more recent release) and again another one I was amazed to see making the top 10 *.* and my 8 was George Maple's gorgeous 'Vacant Space' which was another one I had as a potential myself earlier. My top marks however went to a spooky instrumental for the second month in a row, this time 'EXHUME' by Sidewalks And Skeletons, another fantastic Aeroche entry which ended up in 4th place, miiiiiles better than all of the top 3  72 & 73 had two of N DNTN's best ever entries (18+'s 'Dry' and Swet Shop Boys' 'Batalvi') but they both DNQed. N DNTN then got back to the final with an absolutely terrible song in the next contest, then DNQed again in 75 when they sent something good again. K then ~ Looking back at the BJSC 73 semi-final scoreboards, I forgot how horrendous those results were - of the songs I voted for in the semi, only 3 of them qualified. That did include my 12 and my 8 but they were literally in the last 2 qualifying slots, only my 2 pointer was a comfortable qualifier.
September 16, 20177 yr People is really good <3 revisited it after Cody sent Weekends and it sounded even better than I remember! St. Patrick  a top class pop rock banger and one I still often go back to Raindrops isn't terrible but quite a forgettable winner in the grand scheme of things, Air It All Out should've probably taken it although I remember 73 having plenty of other amazing tracks like Electric Love, Distant Past, Yours Truly and Major Happy *.*
September 16, 20177 yr Oh I feel like I've heard 'Open Season' at least a few times before. It ranks just above the Skall winner for giving me similar vibes but being a touch more memorable. For some reason the chorus has stood out over time, I feel like the words 'arbitrary road' in particular help it to stick out in the way it does for me. Lovely production and vocals anyway, 'tis a nice song to listen to while chilling out. I also know and like 'Shut Up And Dance' and 'Complete' - an interesting choice from Terra Avium here! A real gem that I discovered through an old Now album, I believe 55. I agree that 'People' isn't really a patch on 'Weekends' which received one of my medal positions this year. Lmao at LINES pretending that their musical past never happened through that old moniker *_* the production and regular vocals are fine but the high pitched vox are a bit jarring. There are some great entries elsewhere, I know and like: 'Save Me' (good Ramrynia entry alert), 'Runaway (U & I)' my 2015 EOY #1, 'Christine' (I discovered Christine & The Queens through later entry 'Saint Claude' though), 'O.N.E.', 'Someday' (Bray told me to check this out 'cause he thought it'd be up my street and it v much was *.*), 'Drop The Game', 'Moptop Tweenybop (My Hair's Too Long)' (absolutely iconic) and 'Blue Lips'. BJSC 72 - now this is more like it *.* 'St. Patrick' is an absolutely storming song. Love the production as you pointed out and the lyrics are superb as well. It was Hushkanukia's highest finishing song in my 2015 EOY despite me not even being in the contest at the time. Also... #neverforget the iconic moment when Hushkanukia winning got that mention on a Wikipedia article *_* Elsewhere in that contest, I love 'TV' which also did well in my EOY ('Electrical' by her is really good too), 'Tide: The Paradox Effect' was in my top 10 of the year so yup very much a fan, that song is so special ~ immense structure and video <3 one of the earliest memories I have on plug.dj of a BJSC song being played on there. 'Somebody' and 'Rumors' were both fab songs that had commercial success, 'Hula Hoop' is a jam, 'Crypt' is spoopy wonderfulness, 'Yoohoo' is an amazing dance song and I was shocked to find out that it DNQed, 'Adelante' is a bonafide dance classic ofc, 'Dry' is some quirky brilliance (can sadly see why it DNQed) and I love me a bit of The Flavr Blue as well - I wanted to send them until I found out they had already been sent! I am in the club of people who would have MUCH rather seen 'Air It All Out (7th Heaven Club Mix)' win BJSC 73. 'Raindrops' is a fine song but 'Air It All Out' is a total throw your hands up in the air moment of immense euphoria, it will always bring me so much joy  I should have joined one contest earlier so it would've won </3 Elsewhere, other faves are 'Somebody Like You', 'EXHUME' which I believe is the first witch house song I ever heard and sought out more on the back of it, 'Distant Past', 'Treat Me Like Fire', 'What You Do' (underrated Dan entry!!), 'Running Behind', 'Intoxicated', 'Major Happy', 'I Kamíla' (!!! iconic debut), 'Flutterwonder', 'The Lom', 'Magnetic Nights', 'Cassiopeia' and 'Laplander' ~ recognising loads of these now because of plug.dj/TBO/Rejects from that year. September 16, 20177 yr Oh yeah 73 was an incredible contest which made 'Raindrops' winning all the more underwhelming!! Think my top 3 was Everything Everything, Marian Hill and BORNS, and Paulini (my 6-pointer) was a massive grower, one of the best runner-ups in BJSC anyway. Oh and shout out to Unovia sending Reigan 'All Of The Pieces', so underrated!!! Only my 4-pointer in that contest but ended up 12th in my EOY for that year!
September 16, 20177 yr St. Patrick is one of the best BJSC winners ever. A stunning introduction for me to a rather good band. Agree on you with 10cc too, that was my semi...uh... I definitely gave it some fairly significant points. I did give my final 12 to the rather cutesy Love Is In Bloom (good pony memories) and my 10 went to the beautifully haunting Tide: The Paradox Effect but it was a very strong top 3 in my votes and this winning came out of nowhere for me because if I'd seen its true potential I'd have been so on it the month before  I don't like i - just noise
September 16, 20177 yr well I suppose I should comment so at least one person here prefers 'Raindrops' to 'Air It All Out', I was living for that kind of dance at the time so regardless of whether it should have got vetoed it was my favourite song in that contest. not keen on 'People' or 'St. Patrick' (they're both okay) so that was the first great winner that year.
September 16, 20177 yr You are reet tbh, Dan! Bandwagoning probably helped Priest Patrick to win. It's not great
September 16, 20177 yr PVRIS cannot be topped tbh, I remember following that entire contest as it was the one before my debut and ultimately made me want to sign up, like I was thrilled to see one of my favourite bands storm like that so unexpectedly bc at that time they weren't all that know at all and had only just released their first album a few months before.
September 16, 20177 yr You are reet tbh, Dan! Bandwagoning probably helped Priest Patrick to win. It's not great Stop stirring. I felt I underrated Air It All Out in my final votes pretty soon after sending them and I regret doing that, I could have pushed it over the line with that.
September 16, 20177 yr really like all 3 of those, but SNBRN was such an uninspired move by the mods especially with it being previously vetoed! omg tho Adonia's entry in BJSC 71  MTr9LItiVPg which is by far and AWAY one of my favourite discoveries in BJSC ever  !!!! yesss, I ADORE this.
September 16, 20177 yr You are reet tbh, Dan! Bandwagoning probably helped Priest Patrick to win. It's not great How exactly? It was Hushkanukia's first qualifier and PVRIS were barely known at the time, no bandwagoning going on there people just loved the song. :P The entire top three that contest just wasn't to my taste, I'd actually take 'St. Patrick' over 'TV' or 'Avenir'. The contest was quite a special one for me in that I got my first top 10 hit with 'Rumors' by Pep & Rash (6th). I also loved Natalie La Rose 'Somebody', Sam Feldt 'Show Me Love' and TheFatRat 'Windfall' (the first two even before they became big UK hits).
September 16, 20177 yr i think we got the right winner in the end in bjsc 72, altho i was hoping danaelanda cud've potentially done it
September 16, 20177 yr Author 74. Persephonia - Habib Galbi - A-WA This contest marked the introduction of the current format of 41 or 42 songs in the final. A-WA finished 27 points ahead of the hosts Daehun's song 2080-luvulla by Sanni. Pedestrian At Best by Courtney Barnett was 3rd for Unovia. This is just the sort of song BJSC was made for. It's a Yemeni folk song with just a hint of ska music in its sound. Very good. A-WA means 'yes' in Arabic and the Israeli group is made up of the three Haim sisters, not the only group where that is the case. 8.8 out of 10. g3bjZlmsb4A
