Didn't want to get anyone too excited that footage has been released because all we have is this set photo so far but it looks like Meryl has a bit of a transformation in her role. Excited for her to get her 4th Oscar win !! *-* (and hopefully another nomination for Hanks too!!)

 

An awards contender for sure. Looks very Spotlight-y. Meryl coming for another Best Actress nod!

All Meryl had to do was SHOW UP ON SET and she was walking into a nomination, it's much too soon for her to win again.

 

There's something awfully disconcerting about latter day Tom Hanks' HAIR. It's almost an entity of its own.

I was disappointed with this, it wasn't all that exciting in the end. Found Spotlight a lot more interesting and I thought that had better, more showy performances too.

Agree with Sam in the other thread that this was very 8/10 and I was also a little bored at times. Saying that, there were loads of really intense scenes that did have me gripped and although it's not the most daringly directed film, I did really like the use of circling shots from Spielberg. Yay at Meryl snatching the Oscar nomination because it was one of her best roles in quite a few years in my opinion, it's nice to see her do more understated performances from time to time. Hanks was very charismatic too but I guess he'll just be snubbed forevermore by the looks of things :cry: I liked the cheeky wink-at-the-audience style ending too, so here for the US government lies movie universe. (Shout out to the score from John Williams too, I've been listening to it a fair bit since seeing the film. He definitely should have been nominated for this over Star Wars which was nothing new or special).

 

Also, I've never been more turned on in my life than during the newspaper printing press scenes :lol: I could've watched that for hours...

So I have just heard that this film is based on the story of Katharine Graham/Washington Post journos in the 70s! Her autobiography was so gripping when I read it a few years ago. Must see this *.* (not the best reviews here so far oops :kink: but I hope I'll enjoy it)

Very bland considering all the talent involved.

I got round to seeing this today! I think the beginning of the film, while essential for explaining the background of events, felt a little slow unfortunately. However, I really started getting into 'The Post' when things properly started to happen in the news room. I am probably biased as a journalism student, but I'm fascinated by the Katharine Graham era of The Washington Post in particular and enjoyed witnessing the decision making over freedom of the press vs. the organisation getting in trouble. I very much enjoyed Meryl in the role of Katharine also and was rooting for her throughout, as a likeable female with an important role in such a male dominated profession.

 

I totally agree with Josh that the newspaper printing was very aesthetically pleasing :wub: :lol:
