I've voted for 'Make Me...'!

I love it. I have love for everything remaining! It's just, I probably have slightly less sentimental attachment towards it... purely because it's the most recently released song remaining on the list, so there we go. Each choice I make from now on will hurt me slightly and I'll have to think of some minor reason why a particular song remaining is my least favourite. :drama: By the time we reach the Top 15 it's going to be brutal!

In defence of the much-maligned 'Break the Ice': The most salient point first - it's from Blackout, and Blackout = superb from beginning to end... didn't some of you get that memo? :heehee: It has one of her best lyric intros. It contains this fab lyric: "I'ma hit defrost on ya, let's get it blazing". It has superb electro-production & vocal treatment that actually evokes a sense of iciness to match its title. 👌

Obviously we all have different tastes and I respect that it's not everyone's cup of tea. But some people here love/really like the song, and even just on that basis alone it's worthy of having made it this far; it doesn't mean we're crazy & lacking in taste just because you don't get it & feel like it obviously should have gone by now. These polls are to reflect the taste of the majority, rather than the individual.

I mean, I was a little surprised at how long 'My Prerogative' stuck around, but I wasn't mad about it - it's a fierce and defiant statement song. Even if it had lasted longer than it did, that would have been cool. I wouldn't have started posting angry stuff. :kink:

As far as I'm concerned the majority of her singles are flawless or near-flawless, including a few of the ones which have left the poll already. For such a large singles discography, she has very few duds for me, and activities like these polls reminds me of that.

P.S. "Superb" is my word of the day. x

Me explaining to you all why I like 'Break the Ice':

Dear Tyler, you, me and everyone else knows that Break The Ice is so overrated in BJ.

I have friends who are Britney fans (not stans) and none of them actually remembers it or wants to hear it again.

There is no way it deserves a place in top 20.

From two non fans that have a pretty good following on YouTube. And they were both children when the song came out.

When she's not gearing up for a meltdown, Britney's wielding more melting-ice imagery than An Inconvenient Truth: She's gonna "break the ice," "hit defrost on ya," — Robert Frost said the world will end in one of those two ways, consumed by passion or frozen by rationalism, and it's clear which option Brit will take. But meanwhile, she's gonna crank the best pop booty jams until a social worker cuts off her supply of hits.

The uptempo "Break the Ice" might have been a stronger album leadoff track than "Gimme More" (see "Britney Spears Fans [And Haters] Weigh In On 'Gimme More' Video")," Here, Spears' breathy vocals are layered, so that she's singing, "Hot hot hot — ahh," on top of the chorus, and stopping the song à la Janet Jackson to say, "I like this part. It feels kind of good."

It's f***ing perfect and it's miles ahead of half the list in my personal replay factor. 10 years later. Its a non fan favorite where I am... but, I have very dense urban fan population here. Break The Ice & Toy Soldier are ALWAYS listed as instant 10/10's. Across the board on genres, each single from Blackout is an appreciated and well respected piece of art from any pop culture fan enthusiast. It was well reported in the USA that 'Break The Ice' was the announcement of her comeback with circus, the end of the meltdown. It's more important than half the songs still on the list tbh. And really, who cares about its importance. That shit still sounds fresh as f***. And is one of the very FEW songs I'd truly call flawless a decade in.

The lyrics are some of my all time favorite. "You ain't gotta be scared we're grown now", "heart beating like an 08".... I guess that's it.

This narrative of oh 'only Buzzjack likes it' is so bizarre because it always seems to be listed as one of her best. I remember Pitchfork calling it disorientating and thrilling, which it is. It just sounds so sinister and expensive, that production! It hasn't dated. It's barely 3 minutes long and still finds time for an amazing 30-second minimal outro? My favourite Britney is the Britney that is totally willing to let producers try out whatever they want on her.

There will be lots of mentions of it in Blackout anniversary articles in October. Bookmark me~

If it didn't have the anime video people would like it more tbh

The anime video was a great move considering the situation. She was at her peak with urban and alternative crossover in a sense that the general public was taking notice of how she released one of the best pop albums of all time while falling apart.

She was getting noticed by indie critics and that anime video catered to an audience outside of her fan base norm. Gimme More, Piece of Me and Break The Ice were key components in the world talking about her music as well as it being a narrative for one of the most iconic eras in pop culture history. You compare the rest of her discography and it is indeed a Blackout in the sense there was no apologizing or watering down anything for mass appeal. And that's from 3 unpolished videos and Britney doing f*** all to promote. Her life was the music it's like an audio time capsule of a scary time turned into an authentic living performance piece.

Favorite instrumental of all time tbh. This, 'Gimme More' & 'Womanizer' are my holy trinity. But BTI wins

I listened to 'Womanizer' instrumental last night and fell in love with the song again. I thought it'd be one that'd be close to getting my vote on here soon, but that instrumental is <33

Yes!

Take a moment to appreciate her most underrated instrumental/ song in general

Legit. If I ever get married I'd love for just this instrumental to be used.

Someone vote 'Make Me' please and break the tie!

Lmao I voted make me and it's a tie again

Literally as soon as I posted that, someone voted for 'Break The Ice' :drama:
