  • Updated sales here: Too Lost In You over half a mil to become their third biggest seller. Round Round just under the half mil at 499k

  • Stronger, Shape, In The Middle, Caught in a Moment and Red Dress should all be above Get Sexy! That whole Sweet 7 era needs erasing tbh. 🧙‍♀️

  • Some estimates for future certifications! Too Lost in You - Platinum - 600,000 - March 2026 Push the Button - 2xPlatinum - 1,200,000 - July 2026 Round Round - Platinum - 600,000 - September 2027 Abou

It was 353,000 in October 2019, so nice to see it over 400k now.

Fantastic, it deserved that 20 years ago but at least it’s finally achieved it!

Also happy that Catfights’ certification was corrected!

I would have thought Overload and Run for cover would at least be Gold.

Gold is 400k. It would be a lot to ask for a single that had a eight and seven week chart run to go gold...

Amazing news that Freak is finally Gold!

Using the latest figures from OCC updates and BPI certifications, I've been able to locate sales for 13 of their top 20 singles, as compiled by the OCC in October 2021 (which only provided sales for the top 4, unfortunately). Where possible, I've also included the last known (and fairly recent) official updates to give a sense of how certain singles are 'selling':

1. About You Now (1.02m - October 2021) *908k October 2020*

2. Push The Button (775k - October 2021) *638k October 2019*

3. Too Lost In You (407k - October 2021) *certified Gold/400k July 2021*

4. Freak Like Me (400k - certified Gold May 2022) *387k October 2021*

5. Round Round (277k - August 2020) *273k August 2017*

6. Hole In The Head (>231k - certified Silver/200k April 2015)

7. Ugly (>231k - certified Silver/200k April 2017)

8. Overload (231k - September 2021) *certified Silver/200k March 2019*

9. Get Sexy (200k - certified Silver May 2017)

10. Girls (200k - certified Silver 2013)

11. About A Girl (>156.2k)

12. Stronger (>156.2k)

13. Walk This Way (156.2k August 2019)

It's good to know that Hole In The Head and Ugly are, at the very least, now officially higher than 231k (beyond their certifications, we've had no other updates on these in 10+ years...).

Round Round's growth is really disappointing - only 4k in 3 years!? Do we think OCC have been inaccurate in their reporting, or might most of its streaming be coming from outside the UK?

Curious as to how far About A Girl is from 200k. I didn't include any ancient stats here, but it was on 138,546 in April 2010.

I wonder if Overload could take over Ugly at least in the rankings? If Round Round is really that slow though, it should fall below Hole in the Head and Overload eventually...

Honestly I think there's a descrepency when it comes to Round Round...

225,000 sales at the end of 2002

254,310 sales in June 2009

I don't think 7.7m UK streams would only translate to ~20k  I would think nearer 70k.

Edit: I'm thinking that the 277,000 figure is just the pure sales without streaming units included. It would make more sense to me that Round Round had at least sold 340,000+ by August 2020.

In June 2019, Official Charts published the Top 100 girl group singles of the previous 25 years, and it appeared here:

85 JUMP GIRLS ALOUD 2 2003

86 ROUND ROUND SUGABABES 1 2002

87 JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH SATURDAYS 2 2009

Just Can't Get Enough had sold 284,472 copies as of March 2013, and that's more than the 277,000 stated for Round Round in August 2020. Therefore Round Round has to be on more than 277k overall.

Also, Spice Girls - Holler was 92nd in that list and had sold 287,000 in May 2019 (a month before the girl group list was published). The article actually specified combined sales.

Hopefully we'll get a nice surprise soon-ish and see Round Round certify Gold. Girls Aloud - Jump achieved it in November 2021.

I do find it surprising Freak Like Me has only just gone Gold and Round Round still not Gold, I’d say they were both more remembered than Girls Aloud’ Jump for instance.
Freak Like Me surprisingly has less than 12m plays on Spotify and currently isn't even within their Top 10 most popular songs :o It deserves so much more!

Knew we could count on you to clear things up, Jay! It makes far more sense that Round Round is closer to Gold.

I imagine after these festivals that some of those streams will go up. Round Round should hit Gold soon? And possibly Overload in the next year or 2?

I would really love for One Touch to hit platinum but (it's close and yet so far).

Overload is not going to hit Gold (400k) in the next two years - last number we got was 231k in September 2021, which is up 31k in slightly over two years since it was certified Silver (200k) in March 2019. So it streams about 15k a year and would presumably need 150k+ to reach it. Even with increased activity from their side increasing their streams, it would probably take about around a decade.

Thanks for the updated figures!! I’ll get the OP updated this week. Needs a wee tidy up

How would we feel about a certification tracker? Tracking currently live history of certs and then the next tracks likely to get a cert?

I find this extremely offensive. Spotify users should be horrified.

It appears twice in the Apple Music list of top songs (4th from AWDF, 8th from GH) further confirming those with taste use Apple Music :smoke:
