I reckon spotify should maybe consider an ACR style chart that is promoted, maybe as the "Hot 50" or something, instead of the top 50... so older songs can drop out and give newer stuff the top 50 exposure. They could still publish the actual top 200 but promote a top 50 with a much better turnover.

Spotify really need to do more to encourage new music, the way it is at the moment it's a miracle if anything manages to take off quickly.

 

A promoted Hot 50 that takes out songs after so many weeks would be nice, alongside a published Top 50 which is simply whatever 50 songs are being streamed the most.

'Galway Girl' got disqualified two weeks ago as 'Perfect' overtook it.

 

Ed's current positions in the top 100 are 34 (Shape), 77 (Castle) and 79 (Perfect).

The record label can nominate in exceptional circumstances, but that's not the case here. They haven't even taken 'Perfect' off ACR yet (I imagine that'll happen very soon now that they're giving it a Spotify push).

Timing is strange but it makes sense, considering it's only just re-entered the top 50, which results in a big jump the following day in most cases.

not sure if Spotify depends that much on R1's airplay to be honest

was also wondering what will happen with Ed's Perfect, it's already top 100 so in theory the label cannot request to change the ratio from accelerated to normal (but we know what happened with swish swish)

Doesn't help that radio have pretty much blanked it here. it's sadly a similar case to Capital Cities' Safe and Sound, a US crossover hit that clearly has potential but wasn't given a chance

Yeah, bit it probably won't rise far enough on Spotify now to counteract the likelihood of it sinking on iTunes due to being removed from the R1 playlist.
