If Kelly actually gets a hit out of 'Piece By Piece' and 'Love So Soft' flops, I wonder if her team will cheekily promote it as being the lead single. The majority of the UK would be none the wiser!

It was released under a different label though wasn't it? And she'd be promoting another song in other countries.

It's a bit awkward to see her new single falling an one from a 2 year old album top 3 I must say!

I think the record label switch is what's going to prevent that happening, otherwise it wouldn't have been beyond the realms of possibility.

The obvious comparison is when 'Skyscraper' received a massive X Factor boost in 2013 over a good couple of weeks of shows and Demi's label did apparently "re-release" it as a single here around October-time although it gained no additional traction. At the time, Made in the USA had been and gone, her version of Let It Go was being unexpectedly overshadowed by Idina's, and Neon Lights wasn't to arrive here until the following year.

Demi's UK label had actually tagged on Skyscraper and Give Your Heart a Break onto Demi as this was her first proper album release in the UK despite it being her fourth album. We didn't get the Unbroken album (and the original Skyscraper release) until almost a year after it was released everywhere else. Therefore there was a lucky bit of foreshadowing!

Strangely enough though, HMV where I work (and I imagine other HMV stores that are of a smaller size like us as its all controlled internally) have Unbroken as permanent stock but not Demi. You'd think it'd be the other way around considering the UK version of Demi has all the big hits on.

Yeah she's on a different label now which is why she's doing this soulful album, it's what she sang on Idol mostly (she covered stuf like Aretha, Dionne, Marvin Gaye and Ben E King) and wanted to released, as she said it's what people voted for on Idol. I uess Thankful had a bit of it but since Breakaway, whilst I'm sure she enjoys the music as she wrote some of it and has sung it for 12 years, she hasn't been able to do as much of that. My Decmber was the label's reluctant give her a chance to do something different but of course that isn't soul. LSS is growing on me nw so it's a shame it's really struggling, but PBP is one of her best so if I can even just sneak top 40 officially I'd be glad. iTunes counts for so little now I'm trying not to get ahead of myself but it's such a shame it wasn't promoted properly in the first place as clearly people love it, when it gets a bitof exposure like on XF or the viral Idol performance, it gets a solid boost.
ARGH. So bittersweet with Kelly right now haha. PBP has always been an instant fave of mine, but I'd much rather it was the new song performing well!

wasn't there an american idol performance from the very final episode that was the catalyst for 'piece by piece'? how would you translate that to the beginning of an era for kelly without that context / 'moment'? hence the new approach / new label thing of going for the meghan trainor approach

alas kelly clarkson is a pop star of a different pre-spotify era; she's a wife with kids now, i don't know what there is to expect...

^yes, she perfomed a very very emotional performance on idol, one of the best tv performances ever, reduced everyone to tears

after that the song went to #1 on us itunes and ended up at #8 on the bilboard hot 100... in the uk the effect was much smaller, but ended up entering the top 100 and peaked at #95 for 1 week

18 Logic - 1-800-273-8255 (feat. Alessia Cara & Khalid)

I feel like this could go top 10 officially in a few weeks.

 12. Avicii ft Rita Ora // Lonely Together

I wonder if this could squeak into the top 10 tomorrow - its close (ish) looking at Kworb

Avicii and Rita up to #8, Stefflon Don and French Montana up to #21!

Also Miley - "Younger Now" up to #43, hopefully this can climb further before her Live Lounge performance. What was her peak on release week?

Kamaliya's new song Wild Child looks set to be a big hit

you mean for that brief update before it plummets like all her other songs

The trajectory of the Stefflon Don song reminds me of 'Did You See'. Expect it to be similarly huge.
Don't think it did, it was a big streaming hit but only made 18 on sales as opposed to 9 officially.
