Oh wow, that's pretty insane that Mariah is #1 already and Wham! / The Pogues are top 5. They'll definitely die off a bit over the week but the chances of Mariah (or Wham! if there really is an active campaign for that) getting Xmas #1 are looking a lot higher now as their numbers will be picking up again closer to the Xmas chart week.

I think this will be her highest daily spin number until the Xmas week though

I'd love Mariah or Wham to get the official number 1! Especially Mariah! It'd be the first time an actual Christmas song got there in a LONG time iirc (even before XF took over - also ignoring the Band Aid reworkings)

 

I'd have loved it to have been a newer Christmas classic, but I'm not too mad.

Does this mean that the #1 the week after Christmas will be a Christmas song? :lol: I'd love to see how Radio 1 play that out.

Could happen one day but we only have big xmas sales on 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th so perhaps it won't be quite enough, radio 1 tend to ignore the chart that Friday and just do a quick top 10 rundown in between the chart of the year!

Yes, I'd actually consider putting money on Mariah climbing to 1 on 29th December. The gift-card effect used to nullify the Christmas streams but that has been in fairly large decline this past few years.

 

Would be interesting if Wham! went to #1 on 22nd December and were then knocked off by Mariah, and thus two Christmas #2s finally claimed the #1 status their status/sales warranted.
