Well I feel for once the nostalgia is warranted. There will only ever be 1 Wannabe, it dwarfs all over girl group singles by miles in many ways. It is a quarter century since its release and thank God all are still happy and healthy enough to celebrate that.

Also a reworked video might be a catalyst to more. I can't imagine they would do it without merch to flog and without Universal wanting to take advantage and release a limited edition vinyl (also cd and cassette if they are wise). The girls may also love being together filming a video and who knows what that could lead too. Filming a new music video even if for an old song is as close to dipping a toe into new music as they can get without recording a new song. The record label might be inclined to commission 2021 remixes too if they see the girls are doing a new video and 25th anniversary merch.

The Spice Girls are 5. Wannabe is the 5 Spice Girls. We don't need a second video with only 4 of them.

I hope it's not true, I'd be sad and disappointed otherwise.

Lol I mean I will watch it our of curiosity, sure. But will I support it? Unless it is the best f***ing video ever, I very much doubt I will give two craps about it after watching it once...

Im not a huge fan of nostalgia for nostalgia sake and they have been capitalising on nostalgia for decades now. Like, do something new or interest dissapears, imo...

But the nostalgia factor is the thing that is keeping people interested. Ofcourse the big fans would love new music, but the general public doesn't care. Look at all the people who went to the tour last year, most people around me did not even know Let Love Lead The Way, let alone Headlines or being interested in any new stuff. People are following them and coming back for the nostalgic factor and the reminder of their childhood/teenage years and the girls know that very well.

I think they could get a 'React' hit at least, if not a bigger one. It sounds obvious but the Spices can appeal with new material if it's good, which Headlines (based off of the one play I've given it)...wasn't. If it flops it flops, I guess Headlines being a disaster didn't damage their 2007-08 tour?

I think if Victoria did it that would be amazing - technically it comes under projects outside of touring - she literally sings the chorus and dances so I’m sure Victoria would be happy to do things with the group that doesn’t include being on stage. For example the Channel 4 2021 documentary I’m sure she’ll participate in.

Everyone lost it when they reunited in late 2018 and tickets went on sale - can you imagine them looking Olympics hot, styled amazing and doing Wannabe again I think if they did it properly it would be quite exciting

Nothing damages their legacy or what they achieved in 1996-98 or those feelings people get when thinking about that time.

If anything the nappies, daytime tv, flop solo albums make them seem more low rent and damage them more than anything else. Nothing they do as a group is ever low key or small even if it flops like the musical.

Which is why for me recording a new video for Wannabe's 25th anniversary is fine, I mean who does that bar the biggest girl group ever who can do what they like. It would be pretty big and self indulgent but thats what A-listers do.

Remaking the Wannabe music video will get a ton of headlines and views. I have no doubt about that. By doing so it would continue to perpetuate Wannabe as the only song they are known for with non fans.

You say that like it isn't the same for lots of artists though. I'm no Queen fan and know max 3 of their songs, same for Tina Turner, Elton John and so on.

What then Wannabe can do is get newer generations checking out their back catalogue too.

If all 5 characters are there.

I agree with you Sammy, but the difference between those legacy artists and the Spice Girls is their discography contains more than 3 albums/31 songs.

Yeah like Queen with Freddie Mercury do, oh wait they have a new album out with Adam Lambert.

Amazes me Spice Girls fans get so hooked up on legacy or 5 or nothing, Fleetwood Mac have had plenty of line up changes, played Wembley without the original line up. Queen have a different front man now and so on.

I feel like the girls themselves have brainwashed people with excuses like legacy and 5 or nothing that they repeat these nonsensical things.

They played the biggest UK tour of last year as only 4, they released a GH vinyl that went to #1 on the vinyl album chart. There is no reason they can't do things as 4 and be hugely successful and milk their fans with releases.

Even bloody ABBA have 5 new songs for next year and release vinyl after vinyl after boxset.

This. I hope we move on a bit from bloody Wannabe.

I have very little interest in this and more and more continous nostalgia. Sure, it worked on the last two tours, but if they want to keep interest alive, I think something new/interesting would be better than a new recreation of Wannabe.

If thats not the case, well, then whatever. I will go to a tour, obviously, but beyond that colour me outside of this :nocheer:

I'd totally agree with you Mr X but honestly what do you want to celebrate 25 years of Wannabe when they can't tour right now?

It would be so odd to do anything new to celebrate a song anniversary.

Personally I hope they go all out with loads of content for the Wannabe anniversary. New video, Wembley 98 Wannabe upload to YouTube, Xmas in Spiceworld Wannabe 99 upload to YouTube, Spiceworld 2019 Wannabe uploaded to YouTube, compilation video through the years set to Wannabe uploaded to YouTube. Vinyl, CD and cassette special release, 2021 remix that is included on those physical releases and uploaded to streaming services. A set of merch on their official store to celebrate Wannabe like a mug, keyring, poster and maybe a limited to 1k platinum Wannabe mounted disc.

I mean why not? 25 years is such a big one for so many things, bigger than 30.

Sammy makes a good point.

What I would want is new music, not a boring recreation. Since we will never get new music (thanks Mel C.....) I would rather they focus on celebrating the 25th anniversary of the album instead, releasing the tour tickets for 2022 and a new Anthology with rareties. Do some new merch to celebrate, if you want to.

I couldnt care less about re'doing Wannabe. It's a boring idea. If they want to release a special edition on vinyl or whatever to celebrate it, great. Apart from that, couldnt care less.

Can you imagine Madonna or Janet Jackson remaking one of their iconic music videos? The idea is so tacky.

Oh come on Mariah Carey has been making new versions of All I want for Christmas is you for a while now. Doesn't it also have a new video?

In fact I've just checked it has 4 videos. Why do people hold Spice Girls to some ridiculously high standard, higher than Mariah Carey.

All I Want for Christmas Is You - I might be wrong but this is just my feelings on the matter, but I feel like the original music video for it isn't regarded as iconic in its own right really? It just so happens to be the visual that goes along with the song, and it's the song that is the phenomenon. Mariah did release a brand new music video for it last year, but it's not a recreation of the old one.

Whereas with Wannabe, the video is highly memorable and iconic in its own right... and it's rumoured that they'll recreate it, which I take to mean shooting it at the same location and recreating the madness of that video?

I'm not totally against the idea of it, there's a potential for it to be fun and nostalgic, but I do understand the reservations too.

Mariah murdered All I want with Justin Bieber too and made a tacky as hell video for that duet too. As well as an 'unseen video'.
