Andrew's ReviewNow That’s What I Call Music! 66 aka Now 66 was the first volume to be released in 2007. It contained 44 tracks and 7 UK #1 singles of the era. On this compilation we were introduced for the first time to artists like MIKA, Just Jack, Calvin Harris, Booty Luv, Leona Lewis, The Fray, Klaxons and Jamie T.

No missing #1 singles from this era which is impressive. There were a few surprising omissions though, such as the 2006 Children In Need single by Emma Bunton, along with other hits for Christina Aguilera, Kings Of Leon, Freemasons, Chris Cornell, 2Pac, My Chemical Romance, Nelly Furtado, Junior Jack and the ballad from Katie Price & Peter Andre.

This volume was the only one in the series to feature artists like Mason, Sharam, Seamus Haji, Camille Jones, The View and Gossip.

Artwork Rating: 8/10 Extremely Good

Such a fun design for this volume of a fairground of rides and colourful canopies depicting the start of Spring. Loving the bright, sunny feeling this gives me when I see it. Very original too unlike anything seen before. A very impressive artwork from the series.

Disc 1 Favourite: Calvin Harris – Acceptable In The 80’s

The debut single from one of the UK’s finest DJ’s. The sound produced on this song is so raw and sharp and unlike anything else around at the time. Also of course, as someone who was “born in the 80’s,” it takes on another personal appeal to me too!

Disc 2 Favourite: Fall Out Boy – This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race

My favourite song by Fall Out Boy which has slow parts and faster parts that works really well for the emotion of the song. Definitely one of the highlights of the bands career.

Disc 3 Tracklist:

(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Emma Bunton – Downtown 3:25 {3}

2. Nelly Furtado – All Good Things (Come To An End) 4:23 {4}

3. Christina Aguilera – Hurt 4:03 {11}

4. Beyoncé – Listen 3:39 {16}

5. Katie Price & Peter Andre – A Whole New World 4:35 {12}

6. Lemar – Someone Should Tell You 3:43 {21}

7. Andy Abraham feat. Michael Underwood – December Brings Me Back To You 3:17 {18}

8. The Twang – Wide Awake 4:48 {15}

9. Bloc Party – The Prayer 3:42 {4}

10. The Killers – Bones 3:47 {15}

11. Biffy Clyro – Saturday Superhero 3:19 {13}

12. Chris Cornell – You Know My Name 4:01 {7}

13. Kings Of Leon – On Call 3:22 {18}

14. Kasabian – Me Plus One 2:28 {22}

15. Lily Allen – Littlest Things 3:02 {21}

16. Fish Go Deep feat. Tracey K – The Cure & The Cause 2:37 {23}

17. Cascada – Miracle 3:46 {8}

18. Junior Jack – Dare Me (Stupidisco) 2:36 {20}

19. The Freemasons feat. Sideah Garrett – Rain Down Love 3:17 {12}

20. LazyTown – Bang Bang 3:16 {4}

21. 2Pac feat. Ashanti & T.I. – Pac’s Life3:37 {21}

22. Omarion – Ice Box 4:17 {14}

----------

Total time: 1:19:00

Overall Rating: 7/10 Very Good

There are some great highlights from this volume in the series. Great job featuring all eligible #1 singles from the era, and that included the first hit for Take That in some 10 years, who themselves last appeared on Now 29. X Factor Winner 2006 Leona Lewis became the first female to win the show and her winners single featured on here, and so did both #1 Comic Relief singles from 2007. There’s not much that could have been done to improve this volume and I’m very pleased with how it still sounds all these years later.

Voted for Sharam - PATT as my fave track from disc 1, one of the last and one of the best imo, 80s remixes to do well in the chart. Boogie 2 Nite by Booty Luv is a close second for me, also a great dance track imo.

Amy Winehouse, the Fray and Gossip outshine everything else on disc 2, went with 'How To Save A Life' as it a beautiful song and one I liked at the time. I also liked 'You Know I'm No Good' and still do, very close second for me. The Gossip tune I really liked at the time too.

Love Rain Down Love, Dare Me (Stupidisco), The Cure And The Cause and The Beat Is Rocking from the omissions. There was also another one not on your omissions list (as it only made #27 which it peaked at for 2 weeks) which is Big Bass vs Michelle Narine - What You Do (Playing With Stones), wonderful dance tune imo.

Went for Lil' Star on Disc 1. What a pop gem!

A great edition here.

Disc 1:

1. Camille Jones vs Fedde Le Grand – The Creeps

2. Calvin Harris – Acceptable In The 80’s

3. Mason vs Princess Superstar – Perfect (Exceeder)

4. Eric Prydz vs Floyd – Proper Education

5. Seamus Haji feat. KayJay – Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

a lot of top quality tunes in this disc though, it would be easier to mention the ones I'm not a fan of (Walk This Way, I Think We're Alone Now, A Moment Like This)

Disc 2:

1. The Killers – Read My Mind

2. Klaxons – Golden Skans

3. Gossip – Standing In The Way Of Control

4. Snow Patrol – Open Your Eyes

5. Razorlight – Before I Fall To Pieces

a few more fillers here but still a decent disc overall.

  • 5 years later...

On disc 1, tracks 13-18 are all covers/samples of these songs

13. Tweet - Boogie 2nite

14. Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall

15. Eddie Murphy - Party All The Time

16. Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply

17. Tommy James then Tiffany - I Think We’re Alone Now

18. Indeep - Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

If only they put Jamelia on track 19 instead of track 20 and Walk This Way on track 12 instead of track 3, there would have been 8 consecutive covers/samples as Beware Of The Dog samples Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode and Walk This Way was originally by Aerosmith

7/10

Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This

Robbie Williams with Pet Shop Boys - She's Madonna

7/10

  • 1 year later...
LazyTown's Bing Bang is actually the "Bing Bang (Time to Dance Single Mix)", which is the one that went to no. 4 in the charts.

Edited by IdentFan101
