Everyone expected they wouldn't want to play Christmas songs in the post-Christmas chart last year too and they still did! :kink: I assume normal chart on New Year's Eve.

Yeh they had the stand in presenters doing it over the Christmas break!

either they haven't learnt from last year that the chart will be packed with Christmas songs or they really are keen to play Christmas music well after Christmas Day.

but really that makes no sense they do that but don't do chart of the year anymore. looks like me and Joseph will need to do our own version again. :magic:

I suppose for a couple of hours it won't matter if they're playing some Christmas songs a few days later than the big day! I'm glad we're getting a proper chart but it's a shame they haven't found time for a chart of the year as well, surely they could devote a Sunday to revealing a top 100? Oh well. Like Dan said, we'll do our own

Another dumb BBC decision.

Yeh don’t see the big issue playing Xmas songs on that chart it always baffles me why it’s fine to play them on the 1st November but not on Xmas week itself!

I imagine the Christmas songs will be skipped, there should be enough non-Christmas stuff to fill an hour and 45.

Is chart of the year definitely not on New Years Day, schedule doesn't appear to be out there.

There weren't last year and they happily played loads of Christmas songs

Time for the annual look at the Tmost played songs of 2021 for those with interest of what got played and how much they got played. All the information that I have included has come from the BBC Radio 1 Last.fm page which is avaliable online. The infomation takes all tracks played during the daytime period and nighttime periods and as well as songs played on simulcasts of 1Xtra shows and any repeat shows that were broadcast. As always there may be some missing or incorrect data as some plays may have not been recorded due to failures with the scrobles but the data below will give a mostly clear idea as to which tracks was played the most in 2021. Some songs scrobles are combined and don't reflect the original figures on Last.fm but are used to get a more accurate representation of how many times a song is played, I have listed where I combined figures and these combined figures include versions of a song that went down as a seperate track that wasn't supposed to, variations of song that are similar and any live performances that were played out of a song. Combined figures don't include dance remixes unless they were used as an official version that was pushed. Dominated by dance music!

Surprised Ewan is number one as it wasn’t charting until November but guess it’s been in dance shows all year perhaps?

Crazy that Ewan is number one when it was released so late in the year!

An interesting list, thanks for posting.

Tell Me Something Good was released in June. The edited version was released later. It definitely had massive backing from dance shows for weeks and weeks before its playlisting

Annie Mac (and all of the dance DJs) played it loads, then it was put the on the playlist for 13 weeks and is still played pretty regularly now.
