2002 is like this decade's version of SOS by Rihanna.

 

SOS referenced lots of 80's hit songs in its lyrics, whilst 2002 references late 90's/early 00's hits songs in its lyrics.

 

I didn't notice SOS referenced 80s songs! I knew it samples Soft Cell's version of Tainted Love though.

 

SOS was brilliant though and different in style to anything else around in 2006 imo, even a little bit ahead of its time in being that sort of electropop style which would become big by 2009.

 

Whereas 2002 is just dull generic tropical pop imo. :(

Not a great fan of the Childish Gambino track, but I can see that track becoming a #1 at some point, there seems to be a lot of talk around it. Needs to pick up on streams though.
