They have independently released albums, but then also 'indie' bands signed by big labels (Arctic Monkeys). But they ignore smaller indie bands (The Vaccines, Blossoms etc)
June 29, 20188 yr Love the roast from Scott there on Marvin and the Big Top 40! No idea how they can call that 'official' - it's got airplay from their own radio stations counting heavily. It actually looks like by far the biggest component of the chart has to be download sales - it's quite close to the sales chart. (though streams and airplay are included too, they say) But then weirdly, you get anomalies like James Arthur's current one being top 20, which makes me wonder if something dodgy is going on.

(though streams and airplay are included too, they say) But then weirdly, you get anomalies like James Arthur's current one being top 20, which makes me wonder if something dodgy is going on. Yeah the Big Top 40 must clearly be heavily based on airplay - XXXtentacion was one of the top ten in sales and streaming that week but didn't make their chart at all.

It can't be mainly downloads for sure- James Arthur being Top 20 is odd indeed, and No Roots only peaked at around #35 on it when it went Top 20 on iTunes. They do say streams count as well, but These Days had a 9 week run at #1 on it while Drake had his on OCC?

June 29, 20188 yr I did not expect Leave A Light On to shoot to the Top 10. I Like It and Better Now are pretty good. I'm enjoying If You're Over Me. Not as great as Sanctify but still very good.
June 29, 20188 yr I see they've taken the "Margaret Thatcher" approach to XXX making the top 10 ie putting his return to the chart in context and only playing part of his hit.
