But then again, very random acts can still have hits, look at MK and Dennis Lloyd. And Lukas Graham couple of years ago.

Now there are also many new acts such as EO, Mabel and AJ Tracey in top 20 so it's not essential to be "an established name"

New acts are breaking through still, but you don’t see them getting debut number ones like in the past, which I think was Grandwicky’s point. Getting minor/moderate hits doesn’t make you a household name, unlike when Jessie j, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry all did with their first couple tracks as a few examples.

As much as I miss seeing those, I don’t feel the material from the new acts has been as strong. I also prefer the gradual progression of songs. Looks a bit more natural to grow as public interest develops.

agree, we cannot deny that Spotify has given us Post Malone and Cardi B in the last year

but in pop terms we haven't had a big name ala Gaga in a lont time

Jess Glynne broke through not so long time ago. Dua Lipa has had huge success worldwide. Anne-Marie have several top tens...

Cheat Codes x LM keep moving up little by little during the week and then dropping a few spots over the weekend. Can they just movie it up the playlists already so it can score a week or two in the official top 10?

a lot of new acts make the chart, it's just that they usually take their time. also we are currently in a period where urban is dominating. the climate just isn't right for a new Lady Gaga or Katy Perry to instantly smash with their launch single.

This makes me sad. A pedophile and a girlfriend beater/proud homophobe effortlessly in the Top 40 while Florence is relegated to a #41 peak and Freya Ridings' hauntingly beautiful ballad will no doubt drop out of the Top 100 shortly. :(

Gigi D'Agostino :o Baffles me that L'amour Toujours was never properly pushed here, it would have been huge. I guess this is the next best thing, as it samples it.
I am still shocked la passion was never pushed either, it would have been an easy top 3 here I think (it got to #2 In Ireland). In my mind is doing big things in Europe just gone to #1 In Germany

I hadn't realised that was sampled! On top of that, the vocal is a cover of this 2012 song from Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay (best known by its Axwell remix). It was a #29 hit in Australia that seemingly charted hardly anywhere else, but I think it's better known than that suggests (it has a solid 48 million Spotify plays), and it's a huge banger. It was also ruined sampled by Flo Rida as 'In My Mind, Pt. 2' on his 2012 album.

It was huge amongst the EDM community at least, and rather well known on Buzzjack following its appearance in the BJSC where I believe it finished in the top ten.

This Dynoro & Gigi D'Agostino version simply doesn't live up to the Axwell one.

Gigi had some great songs that weren't hits here but big across Europe; L'Amour Toujours, The Riddle, Bla Bla Bla.

Major meltdowns incoming... :heehee:
