Posted October 2, 20186 yr The short-list for this year's Sports Personality of the Year will be announced at the start of the programme rather than a few weeks in advance. It will soon be time to start guessing who will be on the list. https://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2018-10-...ar-how-to-vote/
October 2, 20186 yr Interesting change in the voting system! Wonder whether this would change the potential winner on the night.
October 2, 20186 yr Author It could change things in a number of ways - some good, some not so good. It could help to prevent a mass campaign aimed at spoiling the vote by encouraging people to vote for an outsider "for a laugh". OTOH, publishing the list in advance can be helpful for a lesser-known person whose achievements might otherwise go almost unnoticed. My guess is that the change will favour the bigger names on the list.
October 9, 20186 yr Speedway fans hoping this guy will be nominated.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/motorsport/45774397
October 15, 20186 yr Young Sports Personality of the Year 'short list' has been announced. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/45834257
October 19, 20186 yr So they've announced the final three for the Young Sports Personality of the Year award. Kare Adenegan Freya Anderson James Bowen But instead of announcing the winner in December at SPOTY they are going to announce it this Sunday at the Radio 1 Teen Awards. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/45908898
October 19, 20186 yr Surely presenting it at the Teen Awards takes away a bit of the experience? It's as if the YSP is completely different from the main thing.
November 2, 20186 yr Well I suspect that Lewis Hamilton will be on the shortlist after winning his fifth title.
November 2, 20186 yr He'll probably be favourite too! Although if Fury beats Wilder I suspect he might have an outside shot despite all the controversy it would inevitably bring. Who else? No one from Tennis, Football (it didn't come home) deserves to be there. Probably a few from Sports I don't watch...
November 2, 20186 yr Author With his form over the year as a whole Harry Kane could well make the list. They should limit the list to UK taxpayers which would rule Lewis Hamilton out.
November 2, 20186 yr Current Odds: Geraint Thomas 7/4f Harry Kane 3/1 Lewis Hamilton 5/1 Alastair Cook 10/1 Dina Asher-Smith 14/1 Anthony Joshua 25/1 Jonathan Rea 25/1 Lizzy Yarnold 33/1 Tyson Fury 33/1 Adam Peaty 50/1 Gareth Bale 50/1 James Anderson 50/1 James Milner 50/1 Justin Rose 50/1 Mark Williams 50/1 Eddie Hall 66/1 Rob Cross 66/1 Tommy Fleetwood 66/1 Adam Gemili 100/1 Chris Froome 100/1 Dele Alli 100/1 Elise Christie 100/1
November 3, 20186 yr I guess Thomas is so high because he won the Tour - the fact three different British cyclists won all three Grand Tours made me think there might not be that much cycling potential this year but I was wrong - although Froome and Yates don't even really seem like they have an outside chance.
November 3, 20186 yr Ah of course there's always a cyclist in with a shout - we've had a fair few win this century (ironically Chris Froome who is arguably the best of them all bar Chris Hoy hasn't won it).
November 20, 20186 yr BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2018 (Odds) [bet365]: Geraint Thomas 13-8f Harry Kane 9-4 Lewis Hamilton 4-1 Dina Asher-Smith 16-1 Alastair Cook 16-1 Tyson Fury 25-1 Jonathan Rea 33-1 Anthony Joshua 40-1 Lizzy Yarnold 50-1 Adam Peaty 66-1 Justin Rose 80-1 Tommy Fleetwood 100-1 James Anderson 100-1 Ronnie O'Sullivan 100-1 Joe Root 100-1 Laura Kenny 100-1 Phil Taylor 100-1 Rob Cross 100-1 Ian Poulter 100-1 Chris Froome 100-1 Mo Farah 100-1 Mark Williams 100-1 Rory McIlroy 100-1
December 11, 20186 yr I suspect that Ronnie would be a candidate for this year's SPOTY according to Steve Davis.
December 15, 20186 yr This is happening tomorrow! I expect this year's show to be dominated by England getting to the semi final of the World Cup and I expect Harry Kane to win the main award. I still have the opinion that England's stage of elimination sounds more impressive than it actually was. Gareth Southgate basically admitted in a SPOTY preview show that he chickened out of trying to win the group so that England would be on the easier knockout route instead of the route that Belgium took.
December 16, 20186 yr It was still an achievement all the same. Southgate may get manager award 'for bringing the nation together'
