October 7, 20186 yr That was just amazing, from start to finish it was non stop action, not even a dull moment, Jodie just fits perfectly in the Who universe, and the companions are practically spot on. Bradley Walsh actually fits in, and I had doubts about him. This could be my favourite Who series to date. Loved it 11/10 :D The cast of actors in this series look amazing, and Alan Cumming (Instinct) :w00t: :o
October 7, 20186 yr So, how many people are glad they're not called Tim Shaw. No doubt some people are not looking forward to work or school tomorrow morning
October 7, 20186 yr Had my snacks oot!! Will probs get fat now oops That was AMAZING LOST FOR WORDS FANTASTIC
October 7, 20186 yr Much better than I expected it to be. I do feel that Capaldi's last season was a damp squib, but this was a great introduction to the Jodie era. Not a fan of the new theme though, seems a bit dated.
October 7, 20186 yr Author Not a fan of the new theme though, seems a bit dated. Might be because it samples the original theme! I need to listen to the theme a few more times but I admit I wasn’t overly keen on first listen. However, the rest of the score sounded fantastic, really helping to build up the tension in parts. A perfect successor to Murray Gold.
October 7, 20186 yr So much better than Moffat, who can't write for shet The damn squid of the Capaldi era will soon be far behind us!
October 7, 20186 yr Loved that. It felt like a general return to form. Moffatt’s era had good episodes but I felt more often than not there would be bad pacing and really slow moments with too much talking about nothing. I can only hope the series continues like this.
October 7, 20186 yr So, how many people are glad they're not called Tim Shaw. No doubt some people are not looking forward to work or school tomorrow morning  This is the guy that played Tim Shaw :D https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1765148/?ref_=tt_cl_t12
October 7, 20186 yr Personally I found the plot to be slightly average. It's not surprising though, as the new era openers are usually fairly weak storywise as they're trying to establish the characters and/or new Doctor. As far as openers go, it was pretty good and certainly better than Capaldi's opening. I'd probably say better than Smith's opening as well. I'd say, in terms of openers, it felt most like "Rose" in that it was a significant reboot in style compared with 10, 11 and 12's openers. I liked the fact that the Doctor being female wasn't the reason why the show felt very renewed and different. I think Jodie has slipped into the role wonderfully. Overall, it felt like a good building block to make the show accessible and fun again. I'm disappointed at the lack of opening titles for episode 1 being true...I guess we will have to wait until next week!
October 7, 20186 yr Really enjoyed that! It wasn’t quite up there as ‘Rose’ or ‘The Eleventh Hour! for a debut episode but I enjoyed it more than ‘Deep Breathe’. Hope they can keep the quality up! Was interesting to see them show a list of guest stars for the series at the end of the episode rather than a next time trailer, but they did show the proper trailer straight after. October 7, 20186 yr That was absolutely fantastic! It already feels completely different to the Moffat era and in a good way! I loved how there was a lot of focus on the companions' lives and establishing them before the Doctor had even arrived. The dynamic between Ryan and Graham was a tad strange, but that's something I guess we'll (hopefully) see explored and explained a lot more as the series progresses. It was pretty thin on plot overall, but I guess that's to be expected when there's a lot for them to introduce; overall the whole thing worked extremely well. That for me was probably a lot better than The Eleventh Hour and Deep Breath too. Jodie fits into the role perfectly, and there was no question about it by the end of the episode that she is the Doctor. I loved the scenes where she was building her own sonic screwdriver (her face when she saw the spoon was a nice nod) and when she was picking her outfit. Although disappointing that we didn't get to see the TARDIS interior, I guess we'll have the 'omg' scene in the next episode with that. That coming soon trailer showing all of the guest stars though, wow! *.*
October 7, 20186 yr Author Overall, it was a lot darker than I expected it to be! I was expecting another light-hearted opener to help introduce the new characters but I liked how it threw them altogether to help face a serious threat. It meant a lot more deaths then I expected, especially of course of poor Gracie which I did NOT think would have happened - although I was thinking why does she stay behind whilst Graham goes travelling! The villain isn't going to go down as a memorable one but it was still a nice concept just for the opener and the tooth thing was partially chilling - although it did feel like a darker version of a Sarah Jane Adventures villain. The DNA bomb was a good idea but not really utilised to the full potential. The wire thing was also a bit flat. Of course the focus of an opener, particularly of an all-new cast, has to be on the characters (and particularly again when there's five four of them!). All of them were really good and it leaves me keen to learn more about the companions. I like how they have connections to each other but not to the point where it feels like the Doctor's travelling with a family - like they're aware of each other but they can still be their own separate entity. Jodie was brilliant, fully throwing herself into the role and you just believe straight away that she's the Doctor. There's definitely elements of previous Doctors in there but it's also not stopping her from having her own identity in the role. She's brought back that essential caring aspect that went wrong with the first two series of Capaldi. She definitely has that wide fun but authoritative appeal that Tennant and Smith had. The pacing was brilliant too and it was certainly a lot more of a stronger effort from Chibnall than his previous episodes. Definitely leaves me so intrigued for the rest of the series and I loved it ending on a cliffhanger. As I said above too, the score was perfect (maybe aside from the theme tune) as well as the cinematography! I WANT OPENING TITLES THOUGH. And the coming soon just featuring guest actors was a little odd for me, especially when I hadn't heard of half of them and there wasn't a MEGA A-List name there which I would have expected if they were taking that approach of focusing on the names.
October 7, 20186 yr Yeah I was expecting a huge A-List name at the end when they did that...it just felt a bit random
