December 11, 20186 yr There was a mailer sent out today about this! It will certainly be interesting to see the sales next week, it really seems like this isn't as limited as the last cassette.
December 11, 20186 yr They are really pushing this, ads on instagram, Facebook and mail shot today. If they were really wanting to go after sales they could have slapped out a rehashed special Christmas edition CD.
December 12, 20186 yr Author i got the email advertisement so they must still have quite a few left if reminding everyone
December 12, 20186 yr Interesting! I wonder if it'll be exactly the same as the original (in terms of catalogue number/barcode)? A pity for those who would have spent way more on eBay over the past few months.
December 12, 20186 yr Those poor people will feel totally robbed. The record company certainly want that Number 1 cassette of the year. As we don't know the amount available and same with the Christmas cassette. These sales mixed in with the cd, streaming, downloads, Kylie should easily have sales of 3k next week.
December 12, 20186 yr The standard cassette is back on sale at £5. What the hell is their obsession with cassettes?! I now feel the need to pre-order Incase it’s different from the original ones that were released.
December 12, 20186 yr I find it odd that more focus has been applied to the cassette over the cd format. As i have posted previously, a newly released Cd would have had a far greater impact on sales.
December 12, 20186 yr I find it odd that more focus has been applied to the cassette over the cd format. As i have posted previously, a newly released Cd would have had a far greater impact on sales. Yes I don’t get their thirst for cassettes or seemingly trying to have the best selling cassette of the year! I kinda get the fact they issued the limited version but there is no need for the Christmas update and now the re-issue of the standard one. It seems like a lot of hard work for a few sales when they could have slapped 2 bonus tracks on an updated CD and benefited from more sales spread out over several weeks whilst also giving the album refreshed exposure in stores and online.
December 12, 20186 yr I agree, a couple new songs added in, slight change of cover and sales would have been greater than the cassette. A live cd as others have mentioned added on would have also been enough to get the new version selling had it been released.
December 12, 20186 yr I feel like there must be good reasons why BMG are going overboard with the cassettes instead of a CD repackage. Maybe cassettes are quicker/cheaper to produce, are more profitable, maybe more of a guarantee to sell because they're regarded as a novelty/retro? Maybe they really are trying their best to claim back the "#1 best selling cassette of 2018" title. Personally I'm not convinced that this accolade is really that important in the grand scheme of things!! Anyway I won't begrudge the cassette madness if it gives the total sales a nice boost - maybe Golden could end the year on 140k+ total?
December 12, 20186 yr Author They have to do cassettes in minimum runs of 4000. So if they have a load left lover and it is same cassette then they can repackage as they like. £5 for a cassette is nothing lol stop complaining. It's like the price of a packet of bacon lol The £5 cassettes are pre order for 21st December release. They are prolonging the longevity. And you can order 99 of these for £495 in one go. We could still see a CD\DVD combo. Edited December 12, 20186 yr by SmileyKylie
December 12, 20186 yr No one here is complaining about the price of the cassette, you're the first to raise it. A couple of us here have just said that they wish the label would produce something different. Where are you getting the "They have to do cassettes in minimum runs of 4000" thing from? The previous Collector's Edition was only 1500 copies produced. We won't see a CD/DVD, at least not in the UK. "The Christmas Collector’s Edition cassette will be the final special format from the Golden campaign."
December 12, 20186 yr Author Final special format. A CD\DVD is a normal format nothing special so possible I read they do 4k productions and they where tempted to do a 2nd run of 4000 after first lot etc. There was 1500 special edition but that doesn't mean they did not do more copies of the actual cassette etc. Most cost effective to do ore. Social media people complaining about having to buy every format etc. Get some self control lol Edited December 12, 20186 yr by SmileyKylie
December 12, 20186 yr Author Alistair Norbury head of BMG on selling 4k of cassettes "it took us all by surprise, we would sell more f we could" we they obviously can now There was a global shortage of metallic tape, only 1 year supply in the world and that was back in March so maybe that's why now they can produce more!!!!! Also some bands like Metallica doing whole cateloges of cassette re issues so watch out Kylie fans!!!!!! We could have more cassettes coming Edited December 13, 20186 yr by SmileyKylie
December 13, 20186 yr I don't get the popularity of cassettes as they are an awful format but they are making a small comeback.
December 13, 20186 yr Author That £5 cassette reads to me like Dancing digital EP for 99p. They where close to Dancing getting top 40 and released it to get it. They may be close to top selling cassette in UK and now want to try and get it..... the Xmas one is the one that will be delivered for Xmas, the £5 will not be delivered for Xmas but will count in the year end totals :)
