This.

There is a reason Cowell decided to drop them, just like there was a reason for Cheryl being dropped.

Didn’t forever go platinum that’s nothing to be snuffed at so if LM5 does that it would be great

fully bored of people trying to say Little Mix are ‘flopping’ when they’re still Top 10 midweeks, whilst higher peaking albums like Muse, 1975 and Mumford and Sons dropped massively spending a week in the top ten each.

I think LM are absolutely fine sales wise, and they’re selling out a massive arena tour off the back of the album too so.

They are definitely under performing. They have radio airplay, are coming off the back of a big album, have the best promo slots, 3 different CD versions and a vinyl.

There is still a heck of a lot of tickets left for the tour too, check gigs and tours and most dates you can get 8 tickets easily to most sections.

I think they have lost their way personally, the constant rent a rapper and more raunchy clothes has left them feeling like any other American artists and they have lost that Britishness that was so endearing.

Olly murs is underperforming too

I think he is naturally coming to the end of his shelf life tbh. Barring a out of nowhere hit he will continue to have decreasing sales and slip into heritage act status.

Which is the exact same reason people gave for the end of the Spices!

I think it's too early to say that LM are underperforming... however, they don't have another song on streaming charts in addition to WLM so that's not a good sign for longevity.

I don't think the next single has been added to any key Spotidy playlists yet, so it's probably a bit soon to call that as well.

I'm intrigued, just because you've never mentioned, are you potentially not a fan of Little Mix this era?! :o

In fairness you do the same things with the likes of Jess Glynne.

Could Coldplay now miss the Top 10?

Take That, are they still Number 6?

Little Mix are far from flopping but are under-performing in comparison to their previous album.

That said, there is a long way to go in this campaign but anything less than double platinum will be viewed as a huge under-performance.

Forever being Platinum certified is based on shipments of 300,000+, but its sales are actually 268,000 (up to November 2018). So technically it's a Gold selling album, it's just fortunate that the system of certifications back then wasn't based on sales and they could nab a Platinum disc!

Relatively speaking, LM5 is performing better in the current market than Forever did in 2000. Forever was the 59th best selling album of 2000 with 224,000 sales sold in 8 weeks. LM5 is already the 43rd best seller of 2018 with 3 weeks on sale, 102,746 sales, and it's likely that it'll end up within the Top 30 best sellers of the year.

It's awkward to compare albums released 18 years apart, but in 2018 terms LM5 is really not "their Forever moment". It's performing well, midweek Top 10 in its fourth week on sale. Sure, this is not doing as well as Glory Days, but just because that album did incredibly well doesn't mean this new album should be seen as an under-performance. It's a tall order for an act to replicate their biggest success with every album. LM5 is doing well, and they're only one single into the campaign.

It does seem likely that Coldplay will miss the Top 10, the mids project that it could end up being #15 on Friday.

Take That are indeed #6!

There are only two 2xP albums this year though...

I think platinum is more of a target here but even that requires healthy consumption for the next 6 months or so, or maybe even a re-release (which probably will happen anyway).

Thank you for the information.

I would say everyone bar The Greatest Showman is underperforming this year. The album market simply isn't what it used to be. LM5 compared to other big release albums has actually managed to stabilise more on weekly sales rather than plummeting after week one like many other big releases this season. We are looking at only two albums breaching 600,000 this year. Glory Days did just over 400,000 it's first year after a big number one in a better market. Really too soon to write LM5 as a flop.

They are not flopping, they have a gold album already with just one single release and they have a whole years campaign of singles and promo plus a big tour to keep selling it.

Ps I did not realise Forever sold almost all it's copies in 2000. That just confirms to me that they could easily have made a success out of that album if they had just kept on promoting it with further single releases and performances. What a waste.

Not sure at the heart of December it's a great comparison to compare artists like M&S, Muse & The 1975 when the shops are full

Of MOR buyers!!

That final paragraph is spot on about LM.

I remember when they first broke through on XF they were so unique and all looked different but their marketing and promo team has just made them all look the same now. I literally couldn't tell the difference between them all visually.

Oh wow! I'd never have guessed!! Comparing it to 'Forever' must be the first time I've seen that, so accurate as well! You truly are clever!!!
