What does Number 1 even mean these days?

I believe it means you've sold/streamed more than any other song in a set 7-day time period, in the UK.

"You're welcome".

LadBaby would not be remembered like Mr Blobby. It's just a smash and grab campaign out of nowhere, it won't even be top 100 next week!

So? It will finally get the Xmas no.1 back on the radar and it would generate chart headlines the likes we haven't seen since Forever crashed and burned!

* except Mariah

CORRECTION: It means according to very arbitrary rules that the OCC have made up (and are generally inconsistent about) you've sold/streamed more than any other song in a set 7-day time period, in the UK.

Most people I've spoken to assume the iTunes #1 is the official number one anyway...

I've not heard this LadBaby thing (sounds...intriguing based on the description), but I'm here for a genuine battle for number 1 between this, Ava and Ariana and maybe even Mariah Carey in there too! Definitely how a Christmas race should be done, so pleased to be proved immediately wrong in that Christmas number 1 thread *.

Or the Big Top 40, which I do believe still gets more listeners than OCC's chart on R1 :kink:

Not really a fair comparison when the BT40 is broadcast on lots of different stations compared to the official chart only being on Radio 1. In any case the vast majority of listeners for both are probably just people casually listening to the radio at the time it's on rather than specifically tuning into it (I'd be shocked if there are more people that actively choose to listen to the BT40 than the official one).

You might well be right that there are people who think the BT40 #1 is the actual #1 though just because of how incessantly they bleat on about how 'official' it is because of those higher listening figures

BT40 is a right shitshow of a chart though! TGS Reimagined version of Million Dreams and Dalton went to #1 on it recently

You were doing so well there until you brought the Spice Girls into it

It's really bugs me that.

Most of the people who watched I'm a Celeb thought Nick Knowles was no1 for a week when he got there for a few hours. I shouted too I was blue in the face that he barely charted after this and if your no1 on iTunes for a few hours does that mean you've sold enough to be no1 that whole week?!!

Not only is she top 65, she's top 60! :o

She was #57 on Monday's update, so it's nice to hear she's still top 60! Passed 62k in sales as of today :)

Plus it's about to lose dozens of stations and will mainly only be on Capital & Heart

Sheesh 62k on just puts you top 60 sales must be astronomical :o

To be fair they made it as explicit as possible on the show that it was just an iTunes #1, they even gave a segment to Anne talking about the Official Charts and it was made pretty clear that they were different things. What annoys me more is articles saying things like 'Flakefleet Primary are now at #2 on the charts' - erm, no they're not.

Yeh, the "official" chart is going to slip further and further down in people's thoughts due to the way it's run and rules are decided. Adding streaming with sales was always going to be tricky, they should have just done two official charts.

Then you have stupid rules that a song could be number one but because its more than 3 years old it doesn't count the majority of it's streams or something. Its too complicated to the average person and Its not a true reflection of what is popular and more a chart to suit a few execs who have a biased viewpoint.

This is why there should be a sales chart and a streaming chart run separately. People can then decided between themselves which has more status.

Masterton has updated. Ava maintaining lead of 2500 over LadBaby, and extended lead to 3000 over Ariana. Missing day of streaming means Ava’s lead closer to 8000 over LadBaby and would have to be pushing her below 0.2 on Kworb to stand a chance.

There is a sales only chart.
