Biography

Tiësto

Born Tijs Michiel Verwest in the small Dutch city of Breda in 1969, Tiësto went on to become more than just a world-famous electronic musician—he largely created the model for a powerhouse DJ in the 21st century. He got his start in the mid-’80s, when the skeletal sounds of Belgian new beat ruled Holland’s clubs, but it was trance—sleeker and more emotive—that moved him. His first proper DJ mix , 1997’s Magik One (First Flight), showcases his signature style in dreamy synth melodies drawn out above tough but streamlined drum grooves. As trance’s foremost ambassador, he pioneered stadium raving with solo DJ concerts in sports arenas; in 2004, he played for millions at the Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Athens. And his Club Life weekly radio show and mix series, one of trance’s premier global platforms, became synonymous with the genre itself. But you don’t become the world’s No. 1 DJ by sitting still. By 2011’s Club Life: Volume One Las Vegas, Tiësto was following through on a shift that had begun with his 2009 album, Kaleidoscope, a blend of high-energy trance and airy pop melodies that heralded the next big rave revolution: EDM. With 2014’s A Town Called Paradise, he made good on EDM’s anything-goes promise with a collection encompassing soaring toplines, massive drops, and other big-room thrills without turning his back on the aching melodies that made his name. As the decade drew to a close, playful collabs with a new generation of producers who had come up in his wake—The Chainsmokers, Oliver Heldens, DJ Snake, Hardwell—only served to confirm his versatility and cement his legacy. - iTunes

Dzeko

Canadian electronic dance producer and DJ Dzeko got his start as one-half of the duo Dzeko & Torres. With his musical partner, Dzeko released a steady stream of singles from the late 2000s and into 2016 before going solo and scoring a hit in 2018 with "Jackie Chan," his collaboration with Tiësto, Preme, and Post Malone.

Born Julian Dzeko, the Toronto-based artist spins a physical brand of future and progressive house. With Luis Torres, he issued a single EP, Hey (Dim Mak), in 2012. When the duo amicably split, Dzeko issued his first single "Liberty," which he followed with tracks such as "Never Gonna Love Me" featuring Sam James and "California" with Brynn Elliot. As he made his way up festival rosters, he caught the ears of major influence Tiësto, who recruited Dzeko for 2018's radio-friendly dance anthem "Jackie Chan," which also featured rappers Preme and Post Malone. "Jackie Chan" quickly became a hit, charting across Europe and in the U.S. That same year, he also issued singles "Don't Stop" with Liu, "Hypebeat" with Kris Kaiden, and "Might Not Like Me," a reunion with Brynn Elliot. - iTunes

Biography

Marshmello

Marshmello might just be the unlikeliest pop star you could imagine—the anonymous DJ/producer is known only by his cartoonish, marshmallow-shaped mask, with its broad smile and big, sympathetic eyes. But given the way his music has resonated, he’s clearly the pop star we needed. He got his start with an equally unlikely fusion of tough-as-nails trap and candied EDM, and as early fans debated his identity, a co-sign from Skrillex gave singles like 2015’s trance-laced “Find Me” a viral boost. On Marshmello’s debut album, 2016’s Joytime, his signature qualities began to come into focus—the wistful vibes of “Summer,” the playful melodies of “Blocks,” the chilled-out cool of “Keep It Mello,” featuring deliciously laidback rapping from Omar LinX—but it was the nostalgic “Alone,” with its twin nods to 2000s emo and 1980s electro-pop, that solidified his persona. (“Alone” also kicked off a string of clever coming-of-age-themed videos that reinforced his essential relatability.) Since then, Marshmello has gone from an EDM curiosity to a ubiquitous fixture in pop, using collaborations with artists like Selena Gomez and Logic to further his singular brand of fun. - iTunes

Bastille

Bastille (stylised as BΔSTILLE) are a British indie pop band formed in 2010. The group began as a solo project by lead vocalist Dan Smith, but later expanded to include keyboardist Kyle Simmons, bassist and guitarist Will Farquarson, and drummer Chris Wood. The name of the band derives from Bastille Day, which is celebrated on 14 July, the date of Smith's birthday.

After an independently released debut single and a self-released EP, the band signed to Virgin Records. Their first studio album, Bad Blood, was released in March 2013 and entered the UK Albums Chart at number one. The band was nominated for four Brit Awards at the 2014 ceremony, winning the British Breakthrough Act. As of November 2014, Bastille have sold over five million records in the US and 2.5 million records in the UK. - Wikipedia

Biography

Luis Fonsi

“Despacito” may have made Luis Fonsi an international sensation, but it hardly defines his sound. Long before that song’s 2017 breakthrough—and long before its similarly massive, Justin Bieber-abetted remix—the Puerto Rican singer-songwriter was racking up Latin-pop smashes, evolving rapidly from charming balladeer to fearless genre bender. Born in San Juan in 1978, he chased boy-band dreams during his teen years in South Florida—until his tender croon scored him a solo deal right as he dropped out of college. Over time, he’d play both the smooth R&B seducer (“Imaginame Sin Ti”) and explosive rock star (“Corazón en la Maleta”), while also bringing 21st-century swagger to classic Latin grooves like bachata (“Llegaste Tú”) and old-school sensuality to pop anthems colored with dance-music synths (“Claridad”). “People look at me and see this guy who’s done mostly romantic ballads, but there’s always been this other side,” he told Billboard. “Pushing the envelope, musically speaking, is what needs to be done to rise to the top.” - iTunes

Daddy Yankee

Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez (born February 3, 1977), known by his stage name Daddy Yankee, is a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter, rapper, actor, and record producer. Ayala was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, and was raised in the neighborhood of Villa Kennedy Housing Projects. Daddy Yankee is the artist who coined the word Reggaeton in 1994 to describe the new music genre that was emerging from Puerto Rico. According to the New York Times, he is known as the "King of Reggaetón" by music critics and fans alike.

Ayala aspired to be a professional baseball player, and tried out for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball. Before he could be officially signed, he was hit by a stray round from an AK-47 rifle while taking a break from a studio recording session with reggaeton mix tape icon DJ Playero. Ayala spent roughly one and a half years recovering from the wound; the bullet was never removed from his hip, and he credits the shooting incident with allowing him to focus entirely on a music career. In 2004, Daddy Yankee released his internationally acclaimed single "Gasolina", which is credited with introducing Reggaeton to audiences worldwide, and making the music genre a global phenomenon. Since then, he has sold around 20 million records. Daddy Yankee's album Barrio Fino made history when it became the top-selling Latin music album of the decade between 2000–2009. In 2017, Daddy Yankee, in collaboration with Latin pop singer Luis Fonsi, released the hit single "Despacito". It became the first Spanish-language song to hit number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since "Macarena" in 1996. The single gained global success. The official video for "Despacito" on YouTube received its billionth view on April 20, 2017 after 97 days, becoming the second-fastest video on the site to reach the milestone behind Adele's "Hello", and becoming the most watched video in YouTube's history. Its success led Daddy Yankee to become the most listened artist worldwide on the streaming service Spotify in June 2017, being the first Latin artist to do so.

Daddy Yankee has received various awards and nominations throughout his career. As of 2017, he has won 82 awards from 270 nominations since his rise to international fame in 2004. He has won 5 Latin Grammy Awards, 2 Billboard Music Awards, 14 Billboard Latin Music Awards, 2 Latin American Music Awards, 8 Lo Nuestro Awards, an MTV Video Music Award and 6 ASCAP Awards. He also received a Puerto Rican Walk of Fame Star, special awards by People en Español magazine, and the Presencia Latina at Harvard University. He was named by CNN as the "Most Influential Hispanic Artist" of 2009, and included in Time 100 in 2006. - Wikipedia
