December 29, 20195 yr Loads of vinyl in Ocean Terminal (Edinburgh) and I find Westfield White City is usually reasonably decent. There's something experiential missing though - and if I was an expert I'd put my finger on it but I'm not. Maybe they just need to darken the stores a little and do some funky lighting or something - doesn't have to be expensive, just to zhush it up a bit. Even allow a take away coffee bar or something to bring in people (as there is no stopping the coffee)!
December 29, 20195 yr I find the same it's like an old brick a brac store nowadays. Haven't been to the sales yet but there was never a huge amount in it over Xmas, compared to 10-15 years ago when you wouldn't be able to move in the month before Xmas Well they are becoming a bit like a 'That's Entertainment' now. some chart stuff and rack after rack of cheap dvds, cds displayed with a pile them high attitude.
December 29, 20195 yr They are doing good things with vinyl but their sale is offering nothing different from Amazon - rather than leading the way they have literally priced matched everything Amazon have put in their sale, they need to have a point of difference and identity which they are struggling with atm. They have also done a really poor job of letting people know they are back online too. On the plus side some of their HMV exclusives have been great this year - I just hope Sunrise continue to see HMV as a viable business. There is still space for HMV but maybe it’s from a few ‘mega’ stores like the one in Birmingham rather than a 100+ chain?
December 29, 20195 yr Well they are becoming a bit like a 'That's Entertainment' now. some chart stuff and rack after rack of cheap dvds, cds displayed with a pile them high attitude. I think that’s the problem though - what can they do?! They can stock 100s of niche titles that sit around gathering dust or they can go after the big sellers? I think they need to look at their promotions - there is a thriving indie store near me that’s always packed, they currently have 50% off atm and anything that’s not in the sale is 25% off - the queue was out of the door.

Having instore coffee shops might be good - if it works for Waterstones and M&S it might work for HMV.
December 29, 20195 yr I would go out of my way to buy from HMV rather than Amazon so glad they are price matching them.
December 29, 20195 yr I would go out of my way to buy from HMV rather than Amazon so glad they are price matching them. I agree, I've consciously made an effort to go once a month at least in the last year - twice on both these last two months to do some of my Christmas shopping. I've got my eye on some sale stuff for when I go to Chelmsford some time over the next week or two. Also re: the Pure scheme. They launched the new HMV Loyalty app at the end of October. Existing Pure points for those who've not already logged in and redeemed them need to do so by January 13th. As it turns out I don't have enough points left even towards a fiver in store credit so I lose what's left on there - about 15,000 or so. Bit of a gutter that you can't carry them forward, but the new loyalty scheme is set to launch in June next year.
December 29, 20195 yr I would go out of my way to buy from HMV rather than Amazon so glad they are price matching them. I would if there was one near me. I like classic country and even when there were lots of record stores you could still onyl buy those CD's from Amazon, HMV or Tower Records. Edited December 29, 20195 yr by Crazy Chris-tmas
December 29, 20195 yr I'm pretty sure it is more likely Amazon price match HMV and there is nothing HMV can do about it.
December 30, 20195 yr I'm pretty sure it is more likely Amazon price match HMV and there is nothing HMV can do about it. Certainly not this time - Amazon launched their music sale on Christmas Eve and HMV matched all of them on Boxing Day.
December 30, 20195 yr is the Leeds one correct> I just did a google and the article reads oddly, it says closing in the core , which it did, it moved into a new home in December a big open spaced shop, the article says closing down signs been on for months, it was on the old building as was closing down from June. Our local one always survives which I am pleased it does it is always busy but if HMV was struggling and wanted to survive I don't understand why during December when it is harder to compete the prices in our store went up, dvds went from £9.99 to 10.99/11.99 and cds the same, vinyl have gone to be about 29.99 for the majority now to 32.99, blurays now seemed to be 14.99 , not exactly a wise move to increase prices over xmas when people want to be able to stretch their buying money Edited December 30, 20195 yr by Mikee1981

Does anyone know how I can make up the remaining points to 50,000 so I can get another £5 voucher? Edited December 30, 20195 yr by soundseekerz
December 30, 20195 yr I've got the same problem (I've got 41,117 points). Does anyone know how I can make up the remaining points to 50,000 so I can get another coupon? Yes any receipts from the day the app launched in October can be redeemed. And the card on the app can be scanned in store. I had 98,000 ish points redeemed £5 and what I bought got me just over enough so it put me back over 50,000 to get the second £5 off.

If it’s £1 per point, that will be much harder

December 30, 20195 yr If it’s 1p per point, then I can make it up pretty quickly. If it’s £1 per point, that will be much harder It's 1p per penny spent! ie spend £9.99 and get 999 points. So you would need to spend just under £89 to get your £5 voucher.

December 30, 20195 yr HMV launched their sale on Christmas Eve Yep it will always be Amazon price matching HMV. I was following the Spice Girls Greatest Hits picture disc and it was £9.99 on HMV online for parts over xmas when it wasn't sold out. As soon as it went back in stock Amazon had it for £9.99, it went out of stock on HMV the price went back up to around £20 on Amazon.

Actually that is wrong as the receipts must be of the last 30 days to input. You also cannot put any recipt from a purchase made today until tomorrow. I had 5000 points on my card and was determined not to lose any so i blagged as many receipts as i could from friends and family. the only downside to this was the receipts hada to be in the last 30 days and only 3 per day is allowed. I also think that they were being too greedy over christmas by putting everything up another £1. They need more offers like the 2 for 10 to shift the back catalogue. People tend to buy 2 on the 2 for 10 that the same 2 titles at 5.99 each seperately
