January 8, 20196 yr WHAAAAT!??? I thought this was a Buzzjack Olly fave!? I'm so confused (and saddened) that it missed top 10.. wtf?? :(
January 9, 20196 yr Author Or if you’re somewhere listening to Bob Marley 10. Thinking Of Me | Avg.7.535 X5w4N3pKnQw Highest Scores: 10: [Riser], Lowest Scores: 2: [ultraReputation] Kicking off the top 10 we finally lose one of Olly's top 10 hits, 'Thinking Of Me', which was released in November 2010 and taken from his debut self titled studio album as the 2nd single and reached #4 on the UK charts following on from the chart topping success of his debut single. It was reported that Professor Green was gonna feature on this, however the plans fell through before the song was even completed and British group Dodgy claimed that the single sounded similar to their song 'Good Enough', (I guess they sound kinda alike...huh never thought of that before). The song is a decent follow up and has proved pretty popular throughout the rate and was originally a couple places higher, but a couple of average and lower scores caused it to drop at a not bad top 10 place, so that's something at least. This continues down the reggae pop route of his previous single, not that its a bad thing and in fact I actually find this the better song (that's my opinion), with a fun brass section that gives this a pleasant whimsical tune that recounts tales of old romance, and therefore creates an inoffensive and catchy as hell tune that perfectly suits Olly's personality.
January 9, 20196 yr I love TOM. I'm kinda gutted it finished below Please Don't Let Me Go.. :( Yay for 'Busy' still being in it *.*
January 9, 20196 yr Author Where do I begin? 9. Please Don't Let Me Go | Avg.7.553 toZfGJl3pwU Highest Scores: 11: [WhovilleOdyssey], 10: [coi], Lowest Scores: 3: [Tawdry Hepburn] At #9 we lose the first of Olly's chart toppers and which so happens to be his debut single 'Please Don't Let Me Go', which was released in August 2010 as the lead single from his self-titled debut album and like I already said become his first #1 hit with over 93,000 copies sold in it's first week and giving him a very promising start to his solo career after finishing in the runner up position on the 2009 series of X-Factor, and therefore quickly outshone the winner Joe McElderry who had already been dropped by the record label by this point. After being quickly signed to joint labels 'Syco' & 'Epic', Olly started work on his solo album and, inspired by a demo scouted out by his A&R team of a reggae-influenced pop song called "Feel Free" by an unknown writer from Australia (this was actually nearly the title of Murs' debut album), it was decided to make Murs' material for the first album of a ska/reggae influence throughout. I must admit that it took me while to warm to this, as I weren't really keen on the kind of direction he had decided to take and felt a bit watered down, but after listening to his further singles, I came back to this and it slowly started to grow on me and yeah sure its catchy as hell with a cheerful beat that oozes with pure cheese, but a likeable first effort by him and this does show off his cheeky chappy personality really well and thankfully he did get better with further material, especially on his 2nd album. However if this hadn't been successful, then we wouldn't have had any of his classic hits that would come further down the line, and gladly this set him on the right path to glory with a very decent end of summer track, that's worth another listen.
January 9, 20196 yr Drab crap. I'll never forget this and 'Start Without You' keeping 'Teenage Dream' from #1.
January 10, 20196 yr Author Don't ever stop controlling me 8. Wrapped Up [Ft Travie McCoy] | Avg.7.642 niLMQsD9ZG4 Highest Scores: 10: [samJudd, Rossco], Lowest Scores: 5.5/5: [scene, coi] At #8 is one of my personal fave Olly Murs songs 'Wrapped Up', released as the lead single on October 2014 and taken from his 4th studio album 'Never Been Better' and features American rapper Travie McCoy (who found this project so important, he didn't even bother to appear in the music video), but nonetheless the song became a smash hit by hitting #3 on the UK charts and went on to sell over 600,000 copies and earning a Platinum disc and easily becoming one of his most successful singles. The song was a success worldwide with top 10 peaks in Ireland, Belgium & Japan and top 20/40 peaks everywhere else. Its pretty rare for a talent show contestant to last this long, but Olly was still going strong at this point and still delivering the goods with this catchy tune that brings a smile to your face with a light funk sound and is it just me or does this sound just like Bruno Mars hit 'Treasure'. Okay this doesn't break new ground, but he still knows how to write a pretty decent hook and on good form sound-wise. Even the phone in rap by Travie McCoy adds a little extra fun to the proceedings even if it's a tad predictable, but the smooth production really helps the song along at a fine pace.
January 10, 20196 yr I do actually enjoy 'Wrapped Up', although it is a totally Olly-by-numbers song.
January 10, 20196 yr Just catching up now - 'Army Of Two' is a gem and it pains me that it's always so slept on </3 'Kiss Me' crashing out before the top 10 was not okay also :( I was obsessed with 'Please Don't Let Me Go' and 'Thinking Of Me' at the time but I think 'Busy' has actually stood the test of time the best from his first era!
January 10, 20196 yr I can take or leave Wrapped Up. It's completely Olly-by-numbers but like Aly said, it bops.
January 10, 20196 yr Drab crap. I'll never forget this and 'Start Without You' keeping 'Teenage Dream' from #1. Thank you! I thought I was the only one to hate 'please don't let me go'. I'm suprised it's so high up, I hope 'Dear Darlin' makes Top 5 at least. The middle 8 part of the song is sublime.

January 10, 20196 yr Author Weekends in bed, no scrambled eggs, or bacon 7. Busy | Avg.7.653 FYTQU4KvhJM Highest Scores: 10: [samJudd, Scene, JerdNoseReindeer, TheGrinch, SweetButJonjo, Cameron, UltraRepuation], Lowest Scores: 4: [ElectroBoy, Pippa] At #7 we say goodbye to the last of his debut album singles, 'Busy' which was released in May 2011 as the 4th and final single, and it was his 2nd release not to be accompanied by a physical CD single and became his first single to miss the UK top 40 by peaking at #45 and it's release fell right in the middle of Murs' first ever theatre tour, so promotion was rather limited, maybe it was these factors as to why it struggled on the charts and plus the weird music video which takes inspiration from the independent movie ''Lars and the Real Girl', which while very interesting and well shot, may have been a bit to out there for the mainstream. I'm actually glad this has fared the best on here over the album's other singles, as I think its probably aged better than those releases and throughout the scoring process this proved to be a real dark horse, by looking set for a top 5 position, then slipping out of the top 10 below the first 2 singles and then shooting back up to this position, so its been a real rollercoaster for this song and the #7 position is well earned. Maybe if this had been released as the album's 3rd single, then maybe it could have given him another top 10 hit, and definitely deserves better than the low peak that it got. The song is really good with a real feel-good vibe with a great hook, while at the same time there's a slight sadness to it. So overall a definite highlight in his discography and well worth checking out as its amongst the finest pieces of pop music that he's ever produced.
