Yeah I basically came in here to check if this would happen!

I hate the fact that artists/labels can just take songs off spotify when they feel like it. I'd be really annoyed if that was my favourite song of all time.

Its tgeir music and should be their choice if they want to remove it, in this circumstance she feels pretty justified.

On the other hand some artists shouldnt be allowed on them due to their pasts.

Westlife are obviously hoping streaming kicks in hence the Thursday release.

That said, the sales for today would have helped them get a higher position next week.

I think it might be interesting how this will do for them.

I don't understand how a Thursday release helps streaming kick in, especially as Thursday's streams don't count anyway and all new releases need the New Music Friday playlist (which will probably be the one day they really get any streams of note).

I guess they'd potentially enter highly with people's interest today and then had the added benefit of NMF tomorrow to then prop them up/ propel them further and I guess if they have enough interest for today to enter top 50 they'd have the added bonus of the top 50 chart.

However that's a lot of ifs, buts and guesses.

More likely they probably thought it might not do much and the album/ tour would be where the money is so it wouldn't matter when it was released

Could it's performance today help boost it's position on New Music Friday? [/tenuous]

I think they should've waited til Friday as the first day and first week will almost certainly be the strongest they sell and considering they are still a download-dominant artist.

To realese a day before - WHY?

Probably so there’s an excuse for a less than favourable chart peak

'Do What U Want' is my favourite song from Gaga but I understand her decision to basically disown it - it was always a dodgy collaboration even at the time, kind of surprising that she of all people would have ever have associated herself with R. Kelly.

She released a statement as to why she disowned it and she mentions how she was in a very different place at the time

Yes, it's good that she's owned up to it and given an explanation for it. That doesn't make it any less dodgy. She should have known better at the time as she has now said herself.

Wow, I am totally shocked to see Westlife on top of the iTunes chart in 2019!
I'm not too surprised, they were massive....they aren't Boyzone etc!

Boyzone had much better songs and were massive tho. Westlife always seemed like a copycat group that just turned up at the right time.

Sales speak differently!! Funnily enough I don't think they sound anything like eachother. People love to discredit Westlife but they made some decent pop songs.

What is out tomorrow? Graham Norton should keep them at No1 for a bit.

tomorrow is the release of their "limited" physical cds and they have not uploaded anything on youtube and both are their "strengths", will they do something about it tomorrow as well?

I can see the "interest" strategy to attract the younger audience and all but i can also it as an excuse if this won't get to the top at the end

let's see if they will have ads on spotify

I'm just happy that they are charting in 2019 and charting on countries mostly not familiar to them.

Westlife have better album tracks than Boyzone and Backstreet as well imho

Boyzone had massive sales though? No Matter What is far bigger than anything Westlife have ever released. I’m not saying that Westlife aren’t big but you brought a Boyzone comparison into the thread just to rubbish them which is so childish and petty.

I honestly can’t see why you need to stir up a rivalry anyway, they both aimed for the same audience and barely crossed over.
