January 7, 20205 yr First reviews coming in - 4 stars from the NME! https://www.nme.com/reviews/album/georgia-s...-review-2593878
January 10, 20205 yr okay, this is really good - I recognised the name from some pretty decent BJSC entries here and there, but I love this type of synth-pop in general, great new release even if half the songs have been out there for ages and they do sound a little familiar. 'Never Let You Go' and '24 Hours' are brilliant. Those synth instruments on say, 'I Can't Wait' are pretty genius.
January 10, 20205 yr Hmm Pitchfork: The album front-loads its two best songs, “Started Out” and the twisty “About Work the Dancefloor,” and nothing thereafter packs quite the same punch. This is what I feared after hearing “Never Let You Go” which is decent, but less enjoyable for me than the lead single(s).
January 10, 20205 yr but it's a good review, they have a lot of positive and nice things to day about her https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/georgi...eeking-thrills/ didn't know her dad was in Leftfield
January 11, 20205 yr It's weird because I would pretence this Georgia album with the exact same topic sentence as Pitchfork but with much more praise to follow. I thought the album was pretty fantastic start-to-finish - a sweet combination of goofy and cool and very authentic. She might be finding her feet but not in a clueless way, more in the way that a musician wants to explore little pockets of different things. It was hooky and really enjoyable in context. I wasn't so familiar with the other singles apart from "Started Out" and "About Work The Dancefloor" but I was not disappointed by the others! Definitely give it a go Doctor Blind.
January 11, 20205 yr Am I the only one on here who considers 'Never Let You Go' a drum and bass track  , it definitely gives me those vibes in terms of production. I know her other stuff isn't and more synthpop though. Edited January 11, 20205 yr by januarysalesnake
January 11, 20205 yr you have to stop with the obsession with labelling everything + also stop editing your posts!!!!!!!! :D
January 11, 20205 yr Listening to this now - I had similar fears to Dr B that signs were pointing towards potential disappointment but we’ll see!
January 11, 20205 yr I loved 'About Work The Dancefloor', but if I'm honest 'Never Let You Go' completely put me off listening to anything else. Is the album more in a similar vein to '... Dancefloor'? If so I might give it a go.
January 11, 20205 yr Her appearance was one of relatively few highlights of the last series of Later... Really impressed with the album on first listen.
January 11, 20205 yr Her appearance was one of relatively few highlights of the last series of Later... Really impressed with the album on first listen. Oh I really liked this series as a whole. The guest presenter thing was terrible but was a big fan of four of the lineups which is a lot for me. Started Out and About Work... are clearly the best two things on it but I enjoyed listening to it, a couple sound like they might end up being duds but that's all - I thought 'Ray Guns' sounded poor in her live sets last summer and that hasn't changed hearing a studio version. Looking forward to seeing (and meeting) her next week! Edited January 11, 20205 yr by RabbitFurCoat
January 11, 20205 yr Am I the only one who prefers NLYG to the other singles? Looking forward to giving the album a listen when I get a chance anyway!
January 11, 20205 yr I didn't really care that much for 'Started Out' and 'About Work The Dancefloor' (I'll take 'Feel It' over both of them) but loved 'Never Let You Go'!
January 11, 20205 yr Author Yep this album is STUNNIN' Y'all can appreciate Feel It now after letting it flop in BJSC with 10 points
January 11, 20205 yr you have to stop with the obsession with labelling everything + also stop editing your posts!!!!!!!! :D Yeah maybe I should think more before I post so I don't have to edit, I do tend to edit them a lot and the edit line doesn't look great.
