May 7, 20232 yr 2023 update I haven't regularly collected for about 2 years now as I just don't have the space any longer but I have still bought the odd one or received some as gifts since I last posted in here. I'm currently waiting for Caroline Polachek's latest album which has been delayed and have also pre-ordered Girls Aloud's 20th anniversary Sound of the Underground release + Taylor Swift's Speak Now (Taylor's Version) album. I ordered two Aaliyah albums and an iamamiwhoami one that never turned up but I think this might be because I transitioned to a new bank card after ordering them :cry: so I think they got cancelled oops. There are still many gaps I'd like to fill (some like Mariah and Nirvana I started collecting but haven't finished, then others like Bowie or Chemical Brothers have classic albums missing) and it'd be cool to purchase some more 2022 + 2023 favourites at some point. But that makes me curious as to how everyone, especially those of you in this game for a long time and with big collections, actually store all of your records and if there is any advice or best practice you would share with those of us newer on the journey/just starting out and maybe if there was something you know now that in hindsight you wish someone had told you early on? I currently Store all of mine in an Ikea Kallax 2x2 unit that has my turntable on top. Two cubes are dedicated to vinyl, a third is dedicated to all of my Sugababes media and then the fourth is for my absolute all time fave DVDs (this was 2 cubes until my vinyl collection outgrew it’s one)

The office room has one of the largest Kalax style units pretty much full of them with just a couple of cubes being used for jumpers. I've got some in plastic storage crates that I don't really ever venture near tbh and then a select group are in the bedroom in sections of two different units, these are the ones I'm most likely to play so one has to get booted to the office in something new takes a spot. I sort of wish I hadn't bought so many, I can see in retrospect that it became a lockdown addiction - probably partly to combat boredom - but now a lot of them just take up space and I'm definitely listening to them a lot less often now things are back to normal.

I've really tried in recent months to cut down on my purchases - 38 items this year so far, whereas last year it was 61 (48 albums and 13 singles). I think if I'd been more frivolous with money this year, then I could have easily bought another 15 albums at least. March 7Mar 7 Just curious what everyone does with any hype stickers that are stuck to the polythene... I store my vinyl in protective outer sleeves and stick the hype sticker on there. I feel like the sticker is part of the packaging and like to preserve it where possible!I'd imagine keeping it would also help with resale value if I ever felt like selling it too (if only as an indicator that the record is well looked after!)
March 7Mar 7 Author I cut round them and put them inside the cover with the record so they're still present. I don't totally know why I do this as I don't particularly intend to sell anything, but I feel like I should keep them for some reason

I invested in the protective outer sleeves at the end of 2023. I wish I'd done that a lot sooner.Before that... I stuck the hype stickers directly on the front cover! Which I slightly regret now, but never mind. I doubt I'll ever sell my collection, so no worries about putting off buyers with that! 😎
