From the top of my head:

Becky Hill has very recently scored another top 10 hit as a guest vocalist. This makes her 2nd Top 10 & 5th Top 40 as a featured vocalist. Just ONE of where she is the lead credit or one of her own songs has charted, at #56.

RAYE is another recent artist who seems to have more luck as a featured vocalist. Just one of her songs where she is credited as the lead has gone top 40.

Ella Eyre is another one. A couple of very minor solo hits, but absolutely HUGE hits as a featured vocalist.

Can you think of anyone else? Why are these artists struggling to breakthrough as artists themselves? I'm particularly gutted for Ella Eyre coz her album is amazing.

I'm quite surprised about Becky Hill. She's definitely a recognisable name, not just a faceless featured act on a dance record, so I don't quite understand why her own music doesn't catch on.

I kinda like that Ella Eyre could have been one of those acts that you totally forget about and would hear one of their songs randomly and think "omg I remember that/her!" yet she's been clinging on to chart relevancy so much longer than she "should" have.

Bebe Rexha would be another one. Only really had 'Meant to Be' as a successful song in her own right and even that was just a case of right song, right time.

Skylar Grey too - a shame 'Invisible' wasn't a smash. :(

I’m hoping with ‘I Can Get Used to This’ FINALLY starting to do something, it can actually give her a ‘solo’ hit. I’m not really sure why it hasn’t happened yet as I feel she’s a vocalist who really does make songs her own, enhance them and is a massive part of each’s success

Oh yes! Skylar

I remember thinking that 'C'mon Let Me Ride' would be her breakthrough  It was a very novelty hit that would've been good to capitalise on, usually. 'Invisible' is gorgeous and definitely should've been a huge smash </3

hopefully now that ICGUTT has a bit of momentum Becky can finally start happening as a solo artist, I'd love an album from her to surface sometime soon.
I’m honestly not shocked that any of these artists struggle to get hits in their own right. They’re all pretty forgettable.

Losing charted at #56!

Omg Jonjo needs banning from the chart forum forever.

Seriously it’s not like he was 50 places out or anything.

No, it's that Becky Hill has had two hits not one.

It still feeds into his initial point though? So what if the woman who had a solo no.55 has also had a solo no.56? She’s still not getting those hits on her own.

To be fair all of Becky's solo stuff HAS been pretty poor.

Ella Eyre is the one tho </3 agreed on her album being amazing. I still hold out hope she'll pull out that solo smash sometime.

True, and the point does still stand! It's just that emphasis was put on only having 'ONE' of her own songs charting when it isn't actually only one, I thought I'd correct it :D

No, Coi was on about a different song altogether. She has 2 lead hits.

Can we mention Karen Harding? She soldiered on with the features even though Say Something got her that hit, she kinda disappeared from the charts
Ina Wroldsen could be another I guess. Places and Breathe both spent months in the top 40 (and How Deep Is Your Love where she provided uncredited vocals), but no success for her songs as a lead artist (even though most of them were with other dance producers!).
"Love Me Again" aside, I think John Newman falls into this category now sadly - best known now for his Rudimental, Calvin Harris + Sigala features, and can't see him scoring another solo hit any time soon.
