So Dominic Raab claimed at PMQs today that Lib Dem MEPs have written to Jean Claude Junker asking him not to do a deal with the UK?

Where his lips moving? He was probably lying.

Probably - but the LD's are known to be so desperate to thwart Brexit that it's a credible lie...

You see, immigration, same as my reason. Asked my cousin in Barnsley today her reason for voting out and was the same word.

Just as a note - since the EU referendum, immigration from the EU has decreased. However, immigration from outside the EU has increased. Leaving the EU won't reduce immigration much, if at all. All it will do is change the origin of the immigrants (less from Europe, more from elsewhere).

If you really want to see declines in immigration, that falls soley on the government. The conservatives have banged on for years about reducing net migration to the 10s of thousands, but it's still well over 200,000/year. Although it has decreased every year since peaking in 2015 at ~340,000. Net migration is unlikely to fall below 100,000/year anytime soon (the last time it was below 100,000 was in 1997).

Immigration from outside the EU is strictly controlled though so we can limit how many and whom we let in. A British resident must earn £18,600 now to get a foreign spouse in to the UK. Even a penny less and they're not allowed in. When we got married there was no set amount like now. Also you had to prove you hadn't just married to get in to the UK, called the Primary Purpose rule, but Labour scrapped that in 1997. Visitors visas are difficult to get in some countries too. For example it's difficult for a young girl to get a visitor's visa in Manila to visit the UK as they think she'll disappear once she's here as some do.

This is the same guy who didn't understand the Dover to Calais crossing route.

EU immigration can be controlled as well - but the government have never implemented the powers they have to control it. If an EU national hasn't found a job or cannot support themselves after 3 months in the UK, they can be repatriated (sent back to their country of origin).

He still could be right about the Lib-Dems though. They'll do anything to keep us in the EU it seems.

Manos a la obra. Immigration is necessary and if the numbers fall from the EU, the country will grt the numbers from elsewhere.

I do agree that SOME immigration is necessary as we haven't enough Dr's, nurses etc. Filipino nurses are still coming apparently.

The Lib Dems will do anything legal to avoid what they think will be disastrous for the country. Boris Johnson will do anything, legal or illegal, to do what he believes to be in the interests of Boris Johnson's career. Can you spot the difference?

Alao it's not immigration. It's freesom of movement. It's repicroal and being stripped from 66 million people! Europeans will still have the right to move around an entire continent. We'll have a teeny tiny island. Yaay

During my health issues of the last year or so, I've seen NHS staff from literally all over the world, and I've had no problems with any of them (other than a bit of trouble with their accents).

LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will send a letter to the European Union asking for a Brexit delay if no divorce deal has been reached by Oct. 19, according to government papers submitted to a Scottish court.

Johnson submitted new proposals to the EU on Wednesday which he hopes will lead to a deal for Britain to leave on Oct. 31, the deadline set by Brussels. British parliament refused to back an agreement his predecessor reached with EU leaders.

But, just over a week after a British Supreme Court ruling that Johnson had suspended the parliament unlawfully and weeks before the deadline, anti-Brexit campaigners turned to judges to try to ensure Britain does not leave without a deal.

They want the judges to rule that Johnson must abide by a law passed by parliament last month requiring him to delay Brexit if he has not agreed a withdrawal treaty in the next two weeks.

They say a no-deal Brexit would have calamitous economic repercussions for Britain after it leaves the political and trading group it joined in 1973.

A spokesman for Johnson said he could not comment on ongoing legal proceedings.

I guess that's it then. We're never leaving. I'll never vote again in any election or referendum and my wife says she won't either. The MP's have let us down big time. It's not poor Boris's fault as his hands are tied by Remoaners who want to keep us in the EU despite the will of the people. DEMOCRACY IS DEAD.

Do you still not understand what a parliamentary democracy is?
