I like how the enthusiasm is gradually draining with each new theory :kink:

I still think it’s a new (unknown) artist but with strong affiliations with someone like Mabel (co-written for instance). Either way, I’m expecting a strong and competitive song.
Y’all got three more days to brainstorm any other acts with five letter names until the announcement!

I knew this would be the year that Suede were our entry!

Christ on a bike guys, It's obviously not going to be anybody like Mabel!

Far more likely it's somebody who had some success on R1 and 2 a few years back(i.e. late noughties, early tens) whose looking for a career reboot. e.g. JLS, Foxes.

Steps are better suited to Eurovision than what Duffy is.

Duffy is actually credible!

good god we can't be letting CREDIBLE people into Eurovision can we

every single year there are singers like Duffy, far more than there are acts that most people remember for two-decades old fun pop.

for the record neither is a name that inspires confidence on its own.

(erroneous) opinions like this is why you'll never get a good result that's not a fluke in Eurovision.

I think it’s more I come from a country where at least 90% of people apart from certain demographics think Eurovision is a joke.

Other countries are far better with it than what we are so I’m only going off the Eurovisions I remember all of which I can easily see why we didn’t do very well except from maybe the year Sugababes Jade did it

Why fight this if you can join the movement amiright

I mean it would be good if we had a good song / good finishing position yes. It’s just outside of this site there isn’t a massive market for Eurovision in the UK like if you asked the average person on the street they’d likely say it was a pile of **** or a joke etc and Everytime it’s announced who’s doing it there’s negativity surrounding it before hand. It’s not as if I want the UK to fail or I personally think Eurovision is naff but most people do and the artist we get won’t change thoughts. But yeah I agree with your point.

steps have 14 consecutive top 5 singles, 2 #1 singles, 3 #1 albums, 7 sell-out arena tours (including the record for the most sold out nights at wembley arena), a brit award + a massively successful comeback album campaign - which spawned 2 massive tours.

they also enjoyed some great success in europe + australia..

..what’s your definition of credible?

I disagree. People will still think Eurovision is not the most serious thing ever but if you make an effort in a few years the situation can definitely change dramatically. Especially if the effort pays off. All it takes is a handful of Top 10 placings and preferably a win. And of course artists willing to take the heat.

I mean in Russia hardly anyone takes Eurovision very seriously but really big artists are being sent and no one looks at them differently in the slightest after they do it.

Not 5 40 odd year olds singing a bunch of cheesy songs doing a half arsed dance routine thats what x

Success don’t always make credible people and credible people aren’t always successful. Duffy is more talented than all 5 of them put together.

Their dance routines are not "half arsed", where has that opinion come from?

you’re wrong + you’re insufferable, not to mention ageist. duffy is 35 btw.

if you think eurovision is naff, why are you even here?

why would you seek out a sub-forum discussing a competition that you don’t even like?

you’re antagonistic + currently seem to find a great sense of pleasure in inserting yourself into topics where you’re dead set on stirring things up with a left-field or unpopular opinion so that you can argue with other members. then you have the audacity to spend the rest of your time complaining that people have an issue with the things you say.

I love how we thought we could have Mabel and we'll probably get Duffy with a song that would have sounded dated on her 2008 album tho, classic BBC

If there was ever a sentence that summed up the UKs participation in ESC this millennium it would be this
