Chris, you have never lived elsewhere so how can you possibly comment?

.

I could move to The Philippines tomorrow as Balikbayan, married to a Citizen. I may do if the UK messes with my sickness benefits before I'm 66. I could ride a buffalo to plough the rice fields. We may sell our house in fact and move but don't worry they get a good internet signal in their village. :D

Why would they mess with them? I thought you had complete faith in Boris and the government?

I have but you never know. 6 years so 6 more assessments. The odds are that I may be found fit for work and lose an appeal. Rumours are that the thresholds will be increased soon.

You'd probably say the same thing about Iceland but every British expat I know loves it here and has no intention of going home anytime soon -Clean, safer, higher standard of living, much better state pension, far better workers rights - unions here are super strong, you don't f*ck with your employees. Yes, its expensive but the salaries reflect that.

You can't have these conversations with people objectively when you keep your head in this tiny box.

I am lowkey jealous. Iceland is beautiful and has all those active volcanoes to boot 😍😍😍😍 I went on a pilgrimage 2,5 years ago to Þingvillir national park and it was one of the most incredible breathtaking places. So peaceful and yet so powerfully destructive. I cannot wait to return. Finally seeing Eyjafjallajokull as well was just *chefs kiss*

Could you not just get a job in a shop like Tesco for a few years!?

No. I am sick and unable to work. Suffer from depression.

How awful. I thought we were all friends and supportive of each other here.

Don't pull your victim card out. The system needs to be dramatically tightened up and thresholds increased, hence my comment.

I agree entirely. There are people with imaginary bad backs and even acne on sickness benefits.

It's beautiful. Don't get me wrong, it's not without its problems. The dark winters get to people. There are two things Icelandic doctors are pros with - broken bones(trips and falls because of Ice) and depression(daylight in December is basically 11am to 3pm).

I work full time in a chain of shops and teach online so I'm not earning megabucks by any means, but I put in the graft and I get paid very fairly. Yes tax is high but it's spent correctly. I have no plans to go back to the UK.

If they stopped your benefits like you said you might have to consider that is what I meant. Being at home all the time probably worsens your condition to be fair, getting out in a routine would maybe help.

You own your house & don't pay rent? :o

Contrast the dignified and affectionate farewell to the UK in Brussels yesterday with the juvenile antics of Farage and his mob in the course of the week and the triumphalist nonsense from the deluded.

I thought I'd been very restrained, actually... :P

Did anyone see Ch.4 news from Sunderland at 7? There was a crowd of flag waving Leavers and one was asked what the benefits of leaving are and he had no idea, just didn't answer. They asked others and all they got was about taking our country back.

For many Leavers, that in itself is a good enough reason.

And there we are. The rights of millions stripped without consent all for the illusion of control we never lost, misplaced blame for the consequences of a very british austerity problem and because beneath it all, England never really stopped being a profoundly racist state. A mix of profound sadness and absolute rage. I have a path back to my rights but I’m one of the few lucky ones. Deeply privileged and proud to be a citizen of nowhere.

I feel you. :(

It's Little Englander nonsense!

No joke I was watching a programme I had taped on the planner from last summer before the news started called 'The Rise of the Nazis'. It was a great show about the 1930-34 period in German politics and how subtle changes occurred which helped hitler become dictator and it was erriely similar to the last 10 years in terms of culture and rise and acceptance of right wing rascism!

In a REAL MATURE DEMOCRACY, Brexshit wouldn't have happened and if it did, it would be a Norway model. Just f*** off.

That's rhe same c**t toad who said 52 48 WAS TOO VLOSE AND "UNFINISHED BUSINESS". f*** THIS SHIT.

This is rich - you ask me & Chris not to be triumphalist in victory, and we have indeed been restrained.

I in return request that sour grapes like the above be toned down. I you can't do that, then I am afraid the gloves will come off...

Regards,

100% dictatorship media eh? 1984 is here.

At least your rants are consistent.

I can’t believe that literally hours after actual Brexit we’re still having to explain the importance of EU trade to our economy.

As always, you neglect to mention that we're still going to be able to trade with the EU, despite Brexit.

Iceland is really good, I’ve been there twice in the span of one year and would need to go back in summertime to have seen it all  I would also say though that one of the cons is not much to do if you live there permanently. if you’re not a native it’s harder to make friends and even the capital is not exactly a party central~

Patronizing threats. How not out of character for you.

Yes we do. Paid it off last year as I inherited when my mum died and we inherited a substantial amount from Rachel too. She inherited a large sum from my cousin in 2016.

Bought it from our landlord in 2012. We've no-one to leave it to now. :(
