October 21, 20196 yr I have been doing some research into X Factor Winner's 3rd albums (for the winners who released that many). This is how they performed in their first week: Leona Lewis' Glassheart sold 27k. Little Mix's Get Weird sold 60k. Joe McElderry's Classic Christmas sold 34k. Shayne Ward's Obsession sold 22k. I can't find information for Alexandra Burke or Matt Cardle on their Wikipedia pages, but neither album has been certified silver, so I am fairly certain they would have sold considerably less than the above four. Who would have thought that Joe McElderry's 3rd album would have outsold Leona Lewis'? Or Shayne Ward's 3rd would outsell Alexandra's? Glassheart is so underrated as an album!! Deserved so much better. Joes album being covers probably helped that plus the Xmas exposure. Was it released fairly soon after he won popstar to opera star? I miss the days of big sales though iirc Joes Christmas album didn’t even go top 10 bit to sell 34K is still pretty great. Little Mix’s Get Weird is their best album too in my opinion. They had such a rare career post show like how many reality based acts peak in their fourth era! Interesting to look at those though. Edited October 21, 20196 yr by Jordan Lee
October 21, 20196 yr Is selling approx 20k by the end of the week considered good for James Arthur? I don't really keep track of his career, but it appears to me his sales have nosedived.
October 21, 20196 yr Ah, well I was very wrong about James then oops! I genuinely thought he'd left the release of this album too long and the hype would have died by now so it'd end up just being low top 5 or so. I think his sales will hold up slightly better than Foals so probably a good chance he will end up at #1. Poor brave Foals potentially coming for a fifth top 3 album (and 3rd #2) without a #1 if so. Gross at YUNGBLUD being so high up. :puke: Big rise for The Script this week! 'The Last Time' turning into a moderate hit for them after all despite failing to impact Spotify at all so far. Cool to see the Floating Points album showing up so high, would be nice if that can remain top 40! Is selling approx 20k by the end of the week considered good for James Arthur? I don't really keep track of his career, but it appears to me his sales have nosedived. His last album did 40k first week but that was off the back of a big #1 single, the market continuing to trend downwards + the lack of as big of a hit single from this one (the last couple of tracks released from it did absolutely nothing) meant this one was obviously not going to come near that. 20k would be pretty good considering I'd say (although I don't think this will get to 20k anyway?)
October 21, 20196 yr Is selling approx 20k by the end of the week considered good for James Arthur? I don't really keep track of his career, but it appears to me his sales have nosedived. His last album in 2016 sold 40k on release week, and had a huge hit single behind it. Considering the changing sales climate, and how other X Factor winners have fared with album number 3, he's done very well. In comparison, Leona Lewis' 3rd album sold 27k in week 1, compared to 375k and 161k. That is a nosedive, my friend. Edited October 21, 20196 yr by TomJ1991
October 21, 20196 yr When we consider where James Arthur was after his first album, it has done extremely well to get where he is now. After his debut, most would have never expected a further 2 Top 2 albums from him with one of them his best seller. This album, wont come close to the success of his last album will sell enough for him to make it to a 4th album.
October 21, 20196 yr think James Arthur will get it with barely 15k in the end, total fluke taking advantage on a week with no big releases both JA and Foals will be lucky if Ed doesn't catch them :D
October 21, 20196 yr Nice to see Five Star still in midweek top 100 helped by its Vinyl release of Gold. Will drop out my week end but this could well sell 5k in its first month of release. Nice without any streaming
October 21, 20196 yr As if there is a big enough market for Justin Fletcher (Mr Tumble) to appear with his Greatest Hits ‘Gold’ at #56
October 21, 20196 yr DMs sales slightly down on the 27k of last weeks first mids. But with missing data it could do 80k plus again this week. Hope it gets another sales increase.
October 21, 20196 yr As if there is a big enough market for Justin Fletcher (Mr Tumble) to appear with his Greatest Hits ‘Gold’ at #56  Wait does that programme have enough songhs for an album let alone a greatest hits   Edited October 21, 20196 yr by 777666jason
October 21, 20196 yr I’m sure James Arthur will get the #1 - he has already posted a video saying he’s close and asking people to download, stream etc., plus he has some signings coming up too. Wouldn’t be overly surprised if we don’t see a price reduction to boost his sales.
October 21, 20196 yr Boo, thought Foals would be a bit further away from the competitor than this. I've just ended up buying 3 copies in order to get tickets to a surprise gig they are doing this week though, and it's sold out; so that's another couple of hundred sales for them easily from everyone else doing the same. In any case, I'm off to stream the album again - can't have them losing out to #1 again, and to James Arthur no less (don't dislike him, but he's had a #1 album already!)
October 21, 20196 yr King Arthur coming for a second UK number 1 album! *-* Also so happy to see blackbear in the top 40. I'm so in love with hot girl bummer now. I wonder if Radio 1 will edit that WORD (f**k you) this Friday. Edited October 21, 20196 yr by Jason

Joe won Popstar to Operastar in July 2011, and then released one album in August, with the Christmas album following in November...credit to them, they absolutely nailed that marketing strategy! And yeah, it sold 34k while charting at number 15 in the first week of December, which is pretty insane compared to today's numbers. Yeah, I would agree! Usually reality acts release 1 album, then it's all downhill, but Little Mix, James and Joe managed to buck that trend.
October 21, 20196 yr 34k for a Number 15 debut, those sales are now seen as good if making a debut at number 1.
