Farage has said that the Brexit party won't contest against the Tories but will against Labour and Lib-Dems. Excellent news for Boris then. :)

It's a sensible move but I am not sure how much it helps the Tories gain a majority. I think Iz, put it perfectly, it helps them defend seats but it does not help them offensively to gain marginals. Plus it's an easy like now - 'Vote Boris, get Nige' which the Lib Dems will certainly push, Labour less so possibly, but it's still an easy tactic. I have noticed the Tories have been very quiet and keen to distance themselves from the news..

All in all I don't think it makes that much of a difference in the grand scheme of the election.

Well all the talk on DS is that it virtually guarantees now a Tory majority. Am not too sure myself about that because as you say, it could still stop them taking marginals from Labour.

Ahead of the closing of nominations on Thursday, I've been having a look to see what other, smaller parties are likely to be standing in the election in December. From this website, some of the other parties we're likely to see (subject to change) include Renew (a pro-EU party with 51 candidates, although they may pull out to help other Remain Parties), the Liberal Party are standing 10, the SDP are standing 3, the Women's Equality have 5 so far, and the Yorkshire Party have 21 candidates all running in the same region of England (Cornwall). I also note that George Galloway is now attempting to pollute the electorate of West Brom East this time around.

Was thinking of standing myself and can easily afford to lose the £500 deposit. Hmm, decisions, decisions.

Asked my wife if she'd vote for me and she says "No"

Stephen Timms here in East Ham has one of the biggest majorities in the country, 39,883.

The constituency with the highest majority in the UK at present is Knowsley on Merseyside. held by Labour with a whopping majority of over 42,000.

The largest majority ever received by an individual is Sir Cooper Rawson, reelected with a majority of 62,253 at Brighton in 1931.

You'd also need to get 10 people to endorse your candidacy.

That's complete rubbish. Who knows how it goes - could swing either way imo.

It certainly helps them maintain their current seats where they already have a majority or where there is a marginal, but I don't see how it wins them a majority. Far from it. I'm sure they will rise in the polls but it all depends on how the other parties spin the news. If there's anything I learned from the Leave campaign it's that Johnson/Cummings etc. wanted to distance themselves as far away from Farage as possible - if some one is clever enough they can spin this news to tap in to those Tory voters who don't like Farage (will help more in London/South West than the North/Midlands I suspect).

If Labour entered the Remain alliance it would certainly help them.. but unfortunately that's not gonna happen.

10? I thought it was 2! Hmm, don't know 10 people. :(

It's hilarious the commenters on here who treat like a jolly game something that will directly impact on your own financial and living situation in a way you can't escape from.

If Britain becomes a sinking ship those of us who can leave will. But the Tories and the super-rich will still need a pool of serfs to pick from and profit off. Guess who that will be.

Labour are their own worst enemy. By not entering a remain alliance they're virtually guaranteeing a Boris majority and Brexit soon.

It's not a game but this election will certainly be one of the most exciting for many years. It'll be interesting to see what the exit polls say just after 10pm.

Well I've come to realise over the past couple of weeks that while financial stability would be good for the country and for the many, I'll also be one of those people ready to take advantage of a crash in the markets when they inevitably happen. I'll happily buy some Brexit-lovers loving property for 60% of what it's worth when the clever people instigate a market crash.

Just annoying most people can't see these people are using their fears to line their pockets with coins. Well as the old saying goes.. if you can't beat em, join em

You see Brexit does make sense. Glad you're seeing that at last. :D

I think the general rule is that any party fielding 50 candidates gets an election broadcast, so Renew may be aiming for that.

It doesn't make sense at all, but if people are silly enough to vote for it and lose money, I'm happy enough to capitalise on it.

Brexit inevitably means squeezes, the weak crash out who don't adapt (as evidenced by the high street crash which will only get worse) and the inevitability of operations moving abroad if the squeeze against the dollar becomes too big. It's not good for our economy and the global standpoint in the world, but if people are happy watch their house price crash before they sell and downsize with retirement I'll happily take great advantage - one big last FU to the Baby Boomers!

I think the general rule is that any party fielding 50 candidates gets an election broadcast, so Renew may be aiming for that.

That makes sense - I guess they see it as paying £25k for a prime-time anti-Brexit market to millions of people for a fraction of what you'd normally pay for it.

In Northern Ireland, a party only needs to stand in at least 3 constituencies to get one - I'm surprised that more pressure-ish groups don't pool together £1.5k to get their message on to prime time NI television. CISTA did it back in 2015 - and although they ran in England as well, they got the most votes in NI, presumably because they got their PPB.

I’ve taken the “get off the titanic before it hits the iceberg” approach and have less than 3 weeks remaining as a UK resident

Apropos of nothing, but there's something I've just noticed re: The Brexit Party. I noticed that they've changed their main colour from turquoise to mint green. I'd noticed a few months ago that it was one of the major colours that hadn't been taken by an existing political party, which meant that I could have used it at some point in the future. Now that they've taken it...damn.
