omg yes!!

Mariah’s 19th number one I believe, insane how huge she was in the US yet this was never able to reach number one originally.

It actually wasn't eligible in the US when it was originally released because they didn't put out a cd single. Had they done that it might've gone to #1 in 1994.

I think there have been periods of time where Billboard actually entirely banned Christmas songs from charting at all as well? Not sure if Mariah fell under that. It was definitely blocked for a while from making annual reappearances in the digital/streaming era until a few years ago.

Well done to her for achieving this, it's a good consolation for her losing her (joint) record for the longest running Hot 100 #1  her 19th #1 after Lil Nas X beat her record by spending 19 weeks at #1 in 2019. Spooky ~

I hope it can repeat the success of America in the Uk and finally make its way to Number 1 next week.

Slight disappointed its dropped to Number 6 in the UK midweek information released today.

Wow fantastic. Shame it won't do the same over here in the UK

She joins:

- Beyonce*

- Britney Spears

- Cher

- Christina Aguilera

- Diana Ross*

- Madonna

as the only females to have #1's in 3 different Decades. It makes her the 5th to do so as a soloist/credited under their own name.

WOW. This week she could keep it there! And then the week after with all the Christmas day numbers added etc.. she could potentially be #1 into the new decade making it 4 decades for her!

WE STAN!!!

Next week is our last chance.

SHE DID IT!!

She would also have done it here if the charts weren't as rigged as our elections!

There's no assume :P Joseph literally said he has a copy of the 1994 CD single. They were the dominant format then so why wouldn't it have had a CD release? lmao

I was thinking that though the other poster made me think twice. Yes by 1994 cds were dominating!

<3 there’s something very right about seeing Mariah at #1 in the US again.

And just in time to ensure she’s achieved number one hits in three consecutive decades.

Always an impressive achievement - was gutted when cliff Richard didn't get a no1 in the noughties although I wasn't a fan of his at all.

Pretty ridiculous if that's the case in terms of Xmas songs being banned, what's that chart actually for?

I bet he was so close with Millennium Prayer!

I wouldn't have considered that a true noughties no1 as it was a leftover from the 1990s. His only other chart topper in the 90s was in December 1990 with Saviours Day I think?

Saviours Day i do enjoy and more so than Mistletoe and Wine.

I did not enjoy Millenium Prayer.

Yeh I always considered MP a new year song rather than Christmas anyway. It was clearly aimed at the end of century kind of vibe.

in the US, xmas songs had a separate chart for ages, this is only the 2nd Xmas song ever to get to #1 and the previous #1 was in the 50s I think

from Billboard:

Upon its initial release, on Carey's album Merry Christmas (released on Nov. 1, 1994, coincidentally, the 100th anniversary of the first Billboard magazine, dated Nov. 1, 1894), the song was not a commercially-available single and, per rules at the time, was ineligible to chart on the Hot 100; it did reach No. 12 on the Radio Songs chart that season. In December 1998, album cuts became eligible for the Hot 100 and "Christmas" dented the chart for the first time on Jan. 8, 2000, spending a week at No. 83.

Beginning in 2012, and coinciding with the addition of streaming to the Hot 100's formula, the song has hit the Hot 100 annually, as, per current rules, older songs are eligible to debut or return if ranking in the top 50 and are gaining in multiple metrics with a significant reason for their resurgences.

When Chris said “no CD” he was referring to the US, in fact it had no physical release of any format there in 1994 (as explained in the above quote from Billboard).

I’m so pleased for Mariah, finally at the top & her long-awaited 19th #1. I hope it follows suit in the UK next week, I’ve not lost hope yet.

If anyone wants to do a rate of her 19 #1's or a least fave poll, feel free to do so!
funny how her only UK solo #1 is Without You, which is not one of her 19 US #1s (peaked at #3 in the UK)
Brand new video premiering at midnight on the 20th (US time) - will help with those YT streams :cheer:
