I'd rather rage than sit around and wait all day

#8. What The Hell | Avg.8.446

Highest Scores: 11: (Cqmeron, George.keh, PearlyGirl) 10: (BiLLYx, Tonez and Iz, Dexton, JosephStyles, DJHazey, Doug), Lowest Scores: 5: (Nick F1, blacksquare, Bjork)

At #8 is "What The Hell", released in January 2011 as the lead single from her 4th studio album "Goodbye Lullaby" (and last from that era to feature here), upon release it received positive reviews and became a successful comeback for her with top 10 peaks in Japan, Australia, Brazil, New Zealand & Canada, as well as top 20 peaks in the UK & USA at #16 & #11 respectively. Avril announced via blog on her official website that her album had been completed for a year and cited her record company as the reason for the album's delays. Maybe it was due to the flop of "Alice" was the reason why it wasn't released the previous year, as I think that definitely may have hindered her chances of more success - coz 4 years is a long wait between albums & during that time I think its safe to say that a lot of her earlier fans had moved on. However this is still a fun offering & one of her more upbeat poppier offerings, but still very infectious with unstoppable energy to match the lyrical content. This does echo "Girlfriend" in a lot of ways; that doesn't stop it from being a blast that's led by bubblegum synths and a stadium chorus, this was the obvious choice for the album's first single & a well earned success that should have been bigger.

Rock N Roll outside the top 10 for the blandness of Keep Holding On, attached to a terrible film? Nonono. Rock N Roll is the perfect summation of her career and if she’d called it quits after that I wouldn’t have minded in the slightest.

#7. Sk8er Boi | Avg.8.535

Highest Scores: 11: (gavindeejay, Tonez and Iz) 10: (SamJudd, Cqmeron, Bill Cipher, Bloodjerdling), Lowest Scores: 6.5/6: (Nick F1, blacksquare)

At #7 we have one of Avril's most recognizable & iconic songs "Sk8er Boi", released in August 2002 as the 2nd single from her debut album "Let Go" & upon release it received critical acclaim and even received a Grammy nomination for "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance", as well as winning several other awards such as 'Socan Awards', 'MuchMusic Video Awards', 'Teen Choice Awards', & 'Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards') . Commercially the song became a big success with top 5 peaks in Australia, New Zealand & Ireland, Top 10 in Netherlands, Austria, Italy, UK & USA. If you want to know what sums up Avril as an artist then this does it perfectly with its powerful pop/punk guitars, defiant spirit, infectious hooks & a glorious chorus that earworms its way into your heart. Full of attitude and rebellion, this energetic anthem is hard not to like & will always be something that's associated with her becoming a pop culture icon. Great track, definitely one of the best songs she's ever recorded.

#6. Head Above Water | Avg.8.607

Highest Scores: 11: (Eduardo) 10: (gavindeejay, BiLLYx, troublepink, Tawdry Hepburn, Cqmeron, Prettylittlebry, George.keh, Bjork, PearlyGirl, JosephStyles, Bloodjerdling), Lowest Scores: 5/5.5: (Nick F1, blacksquare)

At #6 we say goodbye to Avril's most recent era "Head Above Water", released in September 2018 as the lead single from her 6th studio album of the same name. It also marked her first release in over 3 years as well as this being her first release on a new record label "BMG". Another first for Avril was including Christian rock into her music, while still maintaining her usual pop/rock sound into the mix. Upon release the song received positive reviews & had a moderate impact on the charts with top 40 peaks in Austria, Canada & Switzerland, while on the U.S. charts it managed to reach a peak of #64 becoming her 20th song to chart there as well as making a small dent on the UK charts at #84 making this her 17th chart entry. This was a stunning track for Avril to come back with as it shows true growth & maturity with its sparse piano, beautiful strings & soaring vocals, while the lyrics deals with her struggles & with Lyme disease & fighting to overcome it, which adds that emotional depth all of which you can hear in her voice which sounds stronger than ever. I never expected this to do so well here, beating several of her more well known hits, but it just goes to show how brilliant this track is.
